Tonite- Red Pill or Blue Pill? (1 Viewer)

When I saw the Matrix in '99 on the biggie I thought it was the best sci-fi I'd ever seen.

Seems 2 and 3 didn't tickle me as much but still great.

Will 4 be the beast? Gonna find out soon...

On the pickleball courts when one contorts themselves to avoid a spike you often hear, "Nice Neo!"

The ultimate roller coaster sucks/good movie. Just when you think it really sucks it gets good. Just when you think it's good it really sucks. Again.

We endured to the end. Fans will enjoy. It has it's moments. And guess what?

M.5 coming in 15 months to a stream near you!

Far as I am concerned, they took an insanely clever idea, and some really cool digital/camera stuff, and made an amazing movie. Been cashing in ever since-good for them- and I barely remember anything from the last two aside from the insane chase with the blonde guys. That scene was worth my 15 bucks, no complaints.

It felt like a Matrix movie made by a fan of the first movies, not the person who made them.  It was strange, it just didn't feel or look like the first 3, a lot more color, a lot lighter in tone at times... just felt off to me.

Didn't hate it, but definitely didn't love it.

First movie was incredible and such a perfect fit for the late 90s zeitgeist. The following two were just mind melting stupidity masquerading as deep philosophy. I can't say I am very excited for the 4th but I suppose I will watch on HBO Max.

Just got back. Wasn't expecting much, but it far exceeded my expectations. Extremely well done. I remember seeing the first one at the theater and was blown away. Got to take my son with me to this one. We both loved it.

found a good copy online and watched this afternoon
the 1st matrix was great , next 2 ok

the movie brought back good memories and was ok

The franchise that set the bar for fight scenes turned them into the most poorly executed ball room dance routine you have ever seen.

I almost couldn't make myself get through the Merovingian scene.... what in the holy cringeworthy hell was that?

So bad I might go beat up my kids.

:laughing emoji: :laughing emoji: !!

I thought it was OK. More comedy than I expected and I enjoyed Neil Patrick Harris. The action scenes were pretty bad though. Felt more like a comic book movie than a Matrix sequel, but that may be an improvement over a lot of 2 and 3.

Also was a bit distracting how much of the movie was shot in a Joe & The Juice in SF

Trinity!  No Tiffany!  Call me Tiff.  Are you trying to bone my mom? Trinity!  Tiffany!  Don't call me Tiffany!

Here's how I would initially edit 2 & 3 to get it to one decent movie. There would be other small cuts that could streamline it more, but these would improve it immensely to begin with.

1. The Rave Scene and really anything in the cave - all gone. I know it's supposed to be a celebration of humanity versus machinery. But it was dumb then and it's dumb now. Morpheus' speech? Gone.

2. Even though she's gorgeous to look at on screen, almost everything involving Persephone (the Merovingian's wife) is gone. The scene where she "Vampires" a kiss from Neo while Trinity watches and the nonsense with the Werewolves bogs things down terribly. It would cut immediately from her taking them off the elevator directly to bringing them to the Keymaster.

3. The Kid - Gone, gone, gone. He's annoying as hell. He's supposed to tie you into the video game as apparently he's important there. But who cares?

4. Even though it'd be choppy, remove almost everything involving Commander Lock. The love triangle, such as it is, with him, Niobe, and Morpheus is just terribly shoehorned in. And his strategic decisions and attitude in defending Zion is just a perfect caricature of "strutting martinet" - and is absurd.

5. The fight scene as they enter Club Hel. It's just absurd. I know it's supposed to kick things off with a bang but it's dumb. Just get right to Trinity threatening "Merv" and get on with it.

6. Shorten the defense of Zion. It's just way, way, way too long. I don't mind the Mifune character, but there's only so many times I need to see him and his cohorts squishing their faces and shouting into the camera "Knuckle Up!" and "Noooooooooo!!!!"

7. I'd excise all things Cornel West because I think he's a disease on America. But that's just me being political.

As with all movies these days I set my expectations extremely low. The original matrix is one of my all time favorite movies and like most, 2 and 3 fell well short. I enjoyed the new one a lot. Was it great...maybe not. But as a Matrix fan I enjoyed the hell out of it.

8. Get rid of 4,927,553 Mr Smith's in the fight scene and make it a 2 minute battle with perhaps three at most

My take exactly. I loved The Matrix and Reloaded and Revolutions fell incredibly flat and were for the most part (especially Revolution’s) forgettable.

This new Matrix movie was fun. And easy to enjoy.

It basically made the two sequels non existent to me as they should be.

3 stars out of 5.

I also watched this stone sober last night. Tonight I'm going to re-watch it high AF.  :drifter:

We're most of the way through...not sure we'll finish it. Not even sure what the point of this is...although it feels a lot like the recent trilogy of Star wars movies that are all about referencing the originals (how many edited in clips of the original happen?). Feels like this was made for purely nostalgic reasons...except we had flying impervious Neo already- now he just fights?

Yeah, the first movie is one of my favorites. The 2 sequels were ok for me. I dont hate them as entertainment but they just lack all the thump of the first one.

Just watched the new one. I thought the first act was an absolute mess. I was about ready to turn it off 5 minutes in because I couldn't understand a word of what the blue haired chick was saying. Combination of a bad sound mix, her basically slurring every sentence and her accent. It was BRUTAL. If she was gonna be talking the whole movie, I was out. Thankfully that got better.

Turned around a little once Neo was "woken up". But yeah...it still sort of felt a little like fan fiction. The whole thing just felt really amateur and sloppy all the way through. I'm pretty sure I actually said the words "Oh man, this isn't gonna be Jada Pinkett in old lady makeup...is it?" out loud to myself. And sure enough...it was.

I liked NPH. He's always good and plays a really solid understated villain. I thought using Chopra as the grown up version of the little girl from the train station was great.  The fight scenes were kinda meh (just lacked the style of the original) but the Neo blocking bullet effect was pretty good.  Unfortunately, it looks like we're gonna get another one and I have a feeling it will probably be tragically bad.  Just seems like the Wachowskis just sort of stumbled onto a good idea 20 years ago and just lack the skill to build on it.  (although they also wrote the screenplay for V for Vendetta...another one of my favorites)

I'll give this one a 5.5/10, but that's mostly for nostalgia.  For someone not a fan of the original, its probably not worth watching.

Who's Cornel West?

I loved the first Matrix, one of my favorite movie going experiences.  Saw it opening night before the massive buzz hit.  2 and 3 were steaming piles of crap that soured me on the franchise.  I'll be watching 4 because I have HBO Max.  My expectations are so low I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

Black academician. Pretty much known for black nationalism.

From Lupe Fiasco:

I ain't nicest emcee
I ain't Cornel West
I am Cornel West Side
Chi Town Guevara
Malcolm eXorcise the demons
Gangster leaning
Damn. Sounds like a pleasant guy

Oh I've seen that guy before. :lmao:

First Matrix is in my top 8 all time.  It was really an original idea and just awesome watchability and rewatchability.

The next 2 were awful.  I think I turned the 3rd one off before finishing, but may have rewatched it when I was sick once.  Dreadful.

I enjoyed the new one.  It’s not great, but it is pretty good.  I probably enjoyed it for the various nostalgic flashbacks to the original — I guess I’m at the age now where that trick works on me.  I enjoyed some of the humor and liked Neil as a bad guy quite a bit. I’m glad, however, I was able to view it on HBOMax as I woulda been upset paying theater prices for it.

PS:  lol about not understanding most of Bugs lines.  She is a bit of a low/fast talker.

I haven't seen this one yet, but this trend is beyond annoying.    I am not anti-remake or sequel in theory, but at least bring an idea to the table.   The first ones are still there, we don't need sequels disguised as nostalgic reboots.

So my guess is behind the machines, there are humans working with them.

Like, why do machines care about profitability?

Movie made little sense imo.

Saw The Matrix in the theater in 1999 and was blown away. Didn't really like #2 except for a few scenes and I thought #3 was bad. Nothing can top #1,  but I enjoyed Resurrections. I liked the concept of "The Matrix" built inside The Matrix. Very meta and kind of topical. From Elon Musk declaring "we're most likely in a simulation." to Neil deGrasse Tyson saying "better than 50-50 odds" we live in a simulation. And now building our own Metaverse...maybe inside a metaverse. I couldn't help marvel at how far tech has come in a little over 20 years as I streamed the movie from the comfort of home and remembered experiencing #1 in the theater.

Fun to see Neo and Trinity again all these years later. Maybe a bit too self referential, and I actually nodded off a bit towards the end, but overall a fun ride. All good art is a time machine that takes a person back to when they first experienced it. This movie did that for me. I found it interesting to experience the movie in 2021 as Web 3.0 is being built and  having it take me back to 1999 when the concept of "The Matrix" was a mind blowing technical concept where payphones were the only way in and out. (glad they finally ditched that).

Last night my son and I opted to watch the first one. He really enjoyed it even though it came out three years before he was born (and he’s a college sophomore now). So crazy.

I love that! My son loves all the same movies as I did. All the Matrix movies. Rambo. Rocky etc

I really liked the first half.  I was skeptical how they were going to continue the story, and it worked for me.  The second half wasn't bad, but I get bored by too much action.
