Tonite- Red Pill or Blue Pill? (1 Viewer)

There was an idea of a really good movie in there but it spun away from Wachowski and got lost. Much like The Force Awakens felt derivative of the original Star Wars, this felt derivative of the original Matrix. The humans are back in a hidden city? Fighting with the machines again? Really? After Neo sacrificed himself to bring peace? Oh it's different now because we can grow vegetables and some of the machines have evolved into Synths and become our friends? Meh.

Think bigger. Show me a new world where man and machine are building on the peace Neo achieved and trying to reclaim the barren wasteland. For the drama show me code corruption/viruses having to be dealt with, or perhaps something alien or extra-dimensional trying overthrow the new society. Some fan service isn't bad, but the original Matrix was a classic because it made me think, not just entertained me.

so my thing is i try to like things instead of trying to poke holes in them i guess and i thought it was fun and a nice watch  and basically i enjoyed it because i wasnt trying not to take that to the bank brohans

Homeless merovingian with fighters fresh out of a paintball match did make me laugh out loud ... I wish in a good way.

I really enjoyed how they created the matrix into a video game in this universe, thought that was clever and a good way to essentially discredit the movement. I enjoyed the whole, "they're going to make this 4th sequel with or without us", as it was pretty obvious that's how the convos between Warner Bros and the Wachowskis went for this movie, too.

I hated the fight scenes in this. They were pretty awful, especially the aim of the agents in this one. The good guys didn't even try or attempt to dodge. That scene with the chick recreating the trinity stuff was incredibly dumb. The agent unloaded from 5 feet away and she just ran in a straight line away and he some how missed all of them.

I also hated how they reduced Neo to essentially being a bullet shield the entire time. I kept waiting for him to do something... Anything... And yet, I'm still waiting.

I don't understand the forced conflict with the old General, who then completely disappears from the movie after they meet up with the rogue program, what was her point in the movie?

Overall, 6/10, and I'm kinda hoping they don't make another as I can't stand to watch another movie where Neo is useless

I enjoyed the movie. Probably ranks second behind the original for me. Yes, the movie is complete fan service, but sometimes, that's not a bad thing. All of the inside jokes, and meta upon meta Easter eggs were fun. And you got the ending that would have made more people happy at the end of the third movie.

(Side note, watched the third movie last week to get ready, and it is still pretty much garbage.)

The sequels (save for a few elements of Reloaded) we utter crap. This made up for that garbage heap.

I always felt the original never even needed a sequel. It stood on it’s own quite well. But now we have a true sequel to it. I never watch Reloaded or Revolution.....they are simply so bad.

Resurrection was not some brilliant piece of filmmaking in the least bit.....but it as a fun movie, and did not try to be some pseudo deep thinking horse crap that the sequels did. So ridiculous those sequels....I mean bombs of the highest order.

Are you me?  I walked away with essentially the same feeling.  They had some clever twists to the storyline that I found compelling, but the action sequences were undeniably the worst of the franchise.  Morpheus walking down the hallway while a half-dozen SWAT members spray automatic fire yet hit nothing was just stupid.  Then they had the same thing happen in a train car.  There were just too many scenes using the "Bourne" style quick-cuts and stormtrooper like accuracy that took me out of the film.  Throw in the fact they basically admitted Keanu is no longer capable of exaggerated kung-fu scenes so they just gave him Jedi-like force powers to compensate and I was wholly disappointed.

This movie wasn't horrible, but they it did make a lot of unforced errors.  It'll keep the money train rolling, but it was a pale reflection of the original trilogy.  I don't regret seeing it, but I would have done so much differently.  I'm cataloguing it as a disappointment.

First movie was incredible and such a perfect fit for the late 90s zeitgeist. The following two were just mind melting stupidity masquerading as deep philosophy. I can't say I am very excited for the 4th but I suppose I will watch on HBO Max.

The Matrix Resurrections Should Never Have Been Made  Dec 28, 2021 The Critical Drinker

The Matrix Resurrections has turned out to be an absolute flop in theatres, and its easy to see why. This film was a disaster from start to finish. Join me as I review it.

Should have built a new story around the Bugs character. Too bad no one could understand a word she was saying.

Yeah...kinda seems like speaking in a clear voice would be like the first requirement of being an actor.

Apparently not

New one is horrific.  Don't spend any money on it.  They ruined a good franchise and the possibility of a 5th makes me want to puke.

Why?  Why was it made?  Was that whole “Neo against Smith” convo with their alternate persons and the they’ll make a 4th with or without us really it?  Marrying it to the original had potential, this movie wasn’t horrible, but it missed every opportunity given to feel new.

Part of their uphill battle is that original Matrix.  I regard it as my generation’s Star Wars.  Anything after, no matter how similar and pulling from the same storyline, can compare.  I get that and acknowledged it going into this movie.  I didn’t hate it mainly because of nostalgia, but again I can’t help but be disappointed because it seemed like it could’ve been great.  It’s not like they’ve had 20 years to sit and think about it

Overall, fun…I guess.  I won’t watch it again

I just sat with my wife and watched the original for the first time in ages. It was her FIRST time seeing it ever. She enjoyed it. Maybe we'll watch two and three sometime and work our way up to this one. I had forgotten just how good the original was. The fact she liked it speaks volumes. That is definitely not her type of movie normally.
