Tony Kornholio (1 Viewer)

Would you rather win the lottery or watch Tony Kornholio get pasted by Ray Lewis?

I'd rather listen to Michael Irving or Emmit Smith than this guy!

Why on earth did they bring him back???

i think he has a hard time adjusting his style to primetime network TV... the jokes that fly on PTI, are not going to fly on MNF. That said he's been the best #3 guy in the booth for a while. Of course I like madden and DESPISE chris collingsworth, so what do I know?

the reason why he comes across so bad is that he's trying to so hard to be entertaining that he's ignoring the game that's going on .... he's trying to think of the next witty pun.

Notice how excited and animated he gets when the topic is NOT the football game? Hopefully ESPN realizes very soon that a sports writer doesn't necessarily make a great sports announcer. he's a writer ... he needs time to mull his thoughts into something funny or interesting. When he tries to be entertaining on the fly ... well, you see what happens.

He sucked tonight....plain and simple.

Oh, I would rather win the lottery and turn the tv volume all the way down.

I like watching him and Wilbon go back and forth on PTI, I think it's entertaining. But he's just plain annoying on MNF.

i'd rather have frank caliendo (sp) than cornheiser... hell go find kenny mayne get him in there..

what bothered me was NOT hearing him last night. Instead of calling plays and analyzing the game, they had the sideline reporters interviewing media about vick.

I thought that is what the show was last night. A 3 hour Vick interview and analysis, and occasionally showing some football footage of his "former" team.

said this in another thread, but i found it ironic that they would spend so much time discussing whether harrington could step in/up as qb, yet they didn't call a single play of one of his td drives because of the interview with the atlanta reporter.at one point, i decided to mute it and turn on the radio broadcast, but the usual station was carrying the mets game

I still love PTI, but even Kornheiser didn't think MNF was a good idea. I don't know why you'd want to see him get crushed by Ray Lews...perhaps you're in need of some anger management?

The MNF people have been convinced for years that they need an "entertaining" presence in the booth for casual fans. Probably like most people on this board, I'd rather hear intelligent analysis of the game.

Get used to that. Theismann was being intererviewed locally and said that the powers that be wanted MNF to be more "issues oriented"(and no necessarily football related "issues") and that they didn't like it that he was always dragging the conversation back to football. I guess they figure that Jaws will go along with the program.

Seriously? I guess I'll have to find the radio broadcast and turn the sound off on ESPN. That's not why I watch a football game.

I don't think all sportswriters would be bad in that spot, and I think they put the wrong guy from PTI in the booth. Wilbon knows so much more than Tony about sports it isn't funny.

Tony gets sidetracked too much and tries to sound too smart. You know, the target market for football isn't a group of PHDs. It is as much or more blue-collar as it is white-collar, but ESPN doesn't seem to get it. That is why Dennis Miller didn't work, he doesn't talk like the average person, he is extremely intelligent and most of his jokes fly over 90% of the people's heads. This is also why a bumbling football guy like John Madden is seen as a god.

Just my $.02

Liked him last year when he would call out Theisman on the stupid, contradictory things he would say ... Theisman must have missed McGuire so much. Without Theisman though, no reason to have Kornholio.

 I don't watch MNF to laugh and hear jokes.....I watch it to enjoy the game of football. I agree with many of the posts in this thread.

So much better than Theisman. Kornholio is annoying, but he just doesn't evoke the murderous rage in me like Joey did.

Or maybe it's just that Joe is a #####.

Voted for "other" because I really like PTI. But the guy has no place on MNF.

But please stop with the "bring back Paul" comments! That guy is the worst... ever!

I think Kornheiser's great. Jaws is, of course, awesome. And, Tirico is serviceable.

:goodposting:

Best crew they've had in a long, long time.

Whether or not he sucks is irrelevant(they all suck. The radio announcers are superior). He says that they told him they wanted to be more issues oriented. Based on what I've seen, his comments have merit. As for Theismann, he's no worse than any of the other clowns they continue to parade before us. It does appear that some are so happy to see Theismann gone that they have actually fooled themselves into thinking that Jaws is actually good in the booth. Thankfully I don't have to listen to any of them. I tune them out and turn on the radio. There I have my pick of 3 different crews(all of whom are better than anything on TV). Best thing about the radio guys is that they stick to football.

Agreed. MNF is practically unwatchable although the main guy (??) is a pro and good. Kornheiser is a disgrace. Atleast Jaworski put him in his place when he cried that the players should talk about Vick. "it's by far the most important issue on their minds..." Whaaat?!!?!! No, the game at hand and the games to come are obviously the focus. As a whole, ESPN is pretty bad in its "relentless assault" approach on "issues".

Well, if that's the case you need to find a substitute for the terrible MNF crew. Radio is the answer. The MNF crew is going to give you very little of what you want if you are a true football fan. Doesn't matter who they stick in there, the production is the problem. The powers that be don't want them talking about football all the time. They want Tony K to read those ridiculous emails. They want "issues". They want Taric(terrible football announcer) and his deadpan delivery(90 yard bomb or 2 yards and a cloud of dust. To Tarico, it's all the same. Ho Hum).

Fellas, it's Mike Tirico.

Can you guys just write that down on a little yellow sticky before you post in here and butcher his name (or just not know it at all)?

Every forum must have some type of spelling police. Thanks for filling in the void.
