Tony Romo (1 Viewer)

I didn't see an immediate topic on this so I am starting one (or a new one).

How bad is this injury to Romo? Will it keep him out of the lineup? If he plays, will he be effective? Could he rest for a few weeks and be back to himself rather than have mediocre games?

Are people picking up Kitna as a backup, or waiting to hear more.

Will he practice Wednesday?

I'm sure there are a ton more questions as well.

From what I read is that he has one crack rib or a fractured rib. Also he had a minor puncture, from the fracture or crack rib, to his lungs. If anything, this injury is a tolerance injury, meaning he will be able to play if he can tolerate the pain. They will add on padding and support for his ribs but it really depends on how it heals throughout the week and, if there is pain, can he be able to deal with the pain during games.

I read they won't practice Wednesday but on Thursday and Friday you should get some updates on him. By then, you can get a feel if you might need to pick up Kitna or a better QB off the waiver wire. Kitna is actually not a bad QB. He has a good connection with Dez Bryant and did decent passing it to Witten last year.

I picked up Kitna since The Cowboys play Monday night. I wouldn't be suprisied if he is a late scratch so you better have Kitna or Grossman or start someone else Sunday.

NFL Network's scrolling news is listing it as a "collapsed lung". Is that just another way of stating what we've already heard, or is this injury more serious than they were saying yesterday after the punctured lung release? Considering that they haven't really addressed it on Total Access, I'll assume that it's the same thing with different phrasing, but I'm not a doctor.

Tony Romo will likely wear a kevlar vest designed by Unequal Technologies. Yes, the same company that endorses Eagles QB Michael Vick.

They have an extra day off today, so i'm assuming we wont hear anything else. If he practices tomorrow, obviously thats a great sign. Homers should chime in if Kitna gets first team reps.

This is such a tough situation because of the Monday night game. To go with the Rex Grossman or John Kitna option, you have to probably drop another positional player. In my case, I don't want to drop Sanchez for him, but at the same time, If I pick up Grossman or Kitna while keeping Sanchez, I'll have to drop Jacoby Ford, who I think could be a good sleeper this year.

Tough choices.

I could drop Collie right now and pickup Kitna. Good move? Otherwise, Cambell is still on my bench. We start 2QB's and I already have Schaub as my other starter.

I'm in the same position except no backup at the moment :scared: reaching for straws in the news so i can keep my guys. would love to hear what homers have to say

Was Matt Mosely joking? Is that allowed in the NFL?

Romo fitted for vest
LOL okay so I'm not in the military but isn't Kevlar used for bulletproof vests? So if a lineman had a shot at Romo's ribs then they could technically break their own fingers by smashing them into the Kevlar vest. Awesome.

I absolutely expect that he plays. Expect, however, short drops, screens, and more reliance on putrid run game. Not completely treating him with kid gloves, but no Austin and busted rib? They'll reel it in a bit.

Not with Jason Garrett calling the plays. He loves to take shots down field.

Watched his interview on Inside the NFL tonight... not sure exactly when this segment was taped, but he could barely breath, seemed truly uncomfortable, and really struggled to get up out of his chair afterward.

Now some of this could be a bit of acting I suppose, but it looked like he was hurting to me. Having said that I think he'll give it a try on Monday night.

you are thinking of another nfl team that fakes injuries.

Per CBS:

Cowboys QB Tony Romo did not participate in Thursday's practice as he continues to nurse the fractured rib and small puncture of his lung that he suffered last Sunday. Romo was on the field in uniform, but did not wear shoulder pads or a helmet and did not practice. Backup QB Jon Kitna said Thursday he expects Romo to play Monday. "I'm not a medical person, so I'm probably not the most qualified guy to answer that question," coach Jason Garrett said about Romo's status. "He did play over 21/2 quarters with this thing the other day. I think there are probably degrees in there of healing that I think the doctors want to make sure he has before we'll put him back out there. We'll see how he continues to progress as the week goes on. He was out there. He was not able to practice today, but he was out there, staying involved with our team and engaged with our game plan." The Redskins enter Monday's contest boasting the league's 17th-best pass defense, allowing 235.5 yards per game. Romo has thrown seven touchdowns and five interceptions, while averaging 244.8 yards passing over his last five games against Washington. (Updated 09/22/2011).
So it's still one of 2 scenarios. Either its up to Tony how much pain he can handle. With that scenario he will play monday night. The second choice is that Garrett is trying to fake out Washington into thinking he'll play until the very last second. The smart move would be to pick up Kitna just in case (for 2QB leagues or QB flex leagues) or just start your backup in regular leagues. I honestly think he'll play. He's trying to build a tough reputation for himself and this will be another notch for him. Whether its a good idea or not will be seen after the game if he can still stand up or breath.

Today's update:

A CT scan on Tony Romo's lung shows that he's healed, improving his chances to play vs. the Redskins in Week 3. Romo still has at least one fractured rib and didn't practice Thursday but has an extra day to get ready for the Monday nighter. If he plays, Romo is expected to wear a protective vest. "Tony certainly had his examination [Thursday] and everything is on go as we would hoped it would be and expected it to be relative to his lung status," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told ESPN. "That still doesn't necessarily mean he's going to play Monday night, but still that's on go."
Lung is healed but still a waiting game.

Anything new out of Dallas today? Not real comfortable rolling out Eli (my backup) against Philly. Other options are drop Eli for Dalton or Kitna...

Actually the smart move might be for Romo owners to get Grossman from the ww (if available) instead of Kitna. With the Austin and Dez health issues, I am just not so sure that Kitna is actually that good a play. However, if Romo is a GTD and ends up not playing, well Grossman has a fairly decent match-up albeit on the road. Just not sure I like Kitna with a cast of back up WR's and Witten. If Romo does end up playing, I would think he has a marginally better chance at producing over Kitna with those back-ups.

DeAngelo Hall says he’ll target Tony Romo’s ribs

what an idiot...can't believe Hall goes out and says this in the press  Nice bulletin board material for the Cowboys. As Cecil would say "Shut yo mouth..."
I'm ok with what Hall said. Golic and Douglas went on to say they'd push down on Romo's ribs to help themselves stand up after a play, that's cheap but all part of the game.
As is Romo....he said he would "expect nothing less, that's football".

They said he practiced today. Do we know how well? Did he throw downfield? How did he look? Did he interview after practice?

Assuming Romo plays tonight, what can we reasonably expect from him? Tonight's performance will go a long way to temper expectation the next few weeks (week 4 - DET, Week 5 - bye, Week 6 - NE, Week 7 - StL, Week 8 - Phi). These are games I see the Cowboys will have to pass at a higher ratio and/or will be probably playing from behind most of the time. Can he stay on the field for these games and still put up fantasy numbers? I like Romo, but rostering a QB with a broken rib and punctured lung, has me nervous.

I dropped Bradford this week and picked up Colt McCoy and started him over Romo because of this injury. but next week, Romo will be right back in as long as nothing happens tonite to reaggravate his injury. Romo was super solid his 1st 2 and I bet I regret benching him tonight. but I honestly would not be that worried about this injury in the future if he makes it through tonight.

More than Romo's injury, I'm curious to see how Felix / Dez play tonight. I'm more conceerned with his suppporting cast rather than his rib.
