Toon or Still ? Who will be the Saint #3 wr ? (1 Viewer)

I don't know if people believe in WR handcuffs, but you could probably do pretty well with Colston/Toon, and (maybe earlier when cheaper...) Amendola/Thompkins is probably another one.
Depends on the situation for the handcuff. See Rueben Randle.

BUt I would have to think that for dynasty purposes, one of the two between Toon and Stills will be quite relevant in a year or two. Which one?? Who knows. Get both if you have deep rosters, but my vote there with maybe 60-40 confidence is Stills.

Saints re-signing WR Robert Meachem, per ESPN's Bill Williamson.

Anything to see here ??
Funny because the Saints finally fill in the old Meachem role... with Meachem.

This is what they were going for all along with Morgan and Stills. Now we will see Stills and Meachem.

I have no idea if the word about Meachem having lost his wheels is true, but I doubt it is because the Saints wouldn't have signed him.

My guess is this helps Stills, and Toon will still be doing what he was slated for. The guy who might be cut is Andy Tanner.

So Chargers ate 5 mill on him? With that depleted WR core? He must be awful
This surprised me too in terms of the dead money Chargers incur for this move. Meachem's value was in his speed and ability to gain separation, not so much in that his hands were superbly gifted -- guess he lost that much of a step. Maybe Saints are willing to put up with a slower WR in favor of one who really knows the system and rhythm.

Spot on here. He might be getting a spot on the roster because of the history with Brees and Payton but it's really about the best landing spot for him. If he can't make it here then he's not going to pick up with anyone else. He's still got to prove that he's ahead of Stills and that's no sure thing given the circumstances of his return. Tanner was a favorite of Brees but he might be another PS project.

They may also be messing with the Falcons with less than 2 days before game time.

However I don't believe the Saints would sign Meachem unless he could still hit the deep route effectively.

Some of the wide receivers have to play special teams like Courtney Roby did before he was cut. I think Tanner will be that guy.

Not sure Meachem makes the roster as the 6th wide receiver.

They made this work by putting Vilma on PUP-ETR.

Tanner stays.

I think the Falcons may be recalibrating their defensive plans though.

Meachem is pretty bad. He has been a chronic tease throughout his whole career. I would not get my hopes up that the light will suddenly turn on for him.

At best he's a 500-700 yard best ball league bargain bin kind of guy.

Saint homer here. Both will be used and both have been very impressive but IMO Toon is the grab. Meachum has a long way to go to see the field ahead of those two.

What's up with Stills? He had a decent game 1 with 2 receptions on 5 targets for 86 yards. Yesterday he had 1 target for 10 yards. I thought he was a speed guy with much better WR skills than Henderson and Meachem.

He's the new Meachem/Henderson. Boom or bust fantasy player. He's no higher than 5th on receiving pecking order (6th if you want to include P.Thomas)

Could be more if Moore/Colston were to go down.

He also draw a pass interference:

1-10-NO38
(13:56) D.Brees pass incomplete deep left to K.Stills. PENALTY on TB-M.Barron, Defensive Pass Interference, 37 yards, enforced at NO 38 - No Play.
So 2 targets. It looked to me like Revis was playing a side. And the Saints were mostly putting Stills on that side when he was in. Hard to say for sure without seeing the game film, but Stills may have been sacrificed on the island this week.

Also, Meachem was inactive week 1, but active this week and he got 1 deep target that he didn't catch. If the deep target for NO is to have flex value, it cannot be a split role, so that is worrisome.

Toon was inactive this week after being active week 1, plus they cut Andy Tanner this past week to sign an LB. This tells me Meachem is potentially a problem for Stills' value this year as he's gone from WR6 to WR4 in the space of a week.

tampa took away the deep ball with their backfield. the only time really brees was able to complete a deep throw was during the game winning drive to colston. the bucs bottled them up really except for graham and he's a mismatch for everyone in the league. trotting our meachem for a snap(s) didn't change what that role on the offense meant to the game.

they have to figure out what they have in meachem. he will get his shots until they see how he meshes with the 2013 offense.

Based on what Ive read, Revis was on him most of the game. Stills is near the end of my bench, but I'm dropping Jeffery (if my waiver move goes thru) ahead of Stills.

Was about to cut Stills (in redraft) due to his goose egg and Meachem's emergence, but then took a look at the snap counts for NO WRs in week 3:

Colston: 58 (77%)

Stills: 58 (77%)

Moore: 34 (46%)

Meachem: 27 (36%)

Toon: 0 (0%)

Gotta give it another week, because if he keeps playing as much as Colston and more than Moore/Meachem, good things are going to happen.
