Really behind on this year's crop of impact rookies.

Who's looking to get good playing time and perform

C - Wieters probably won't break camp with the team, but will probably get called up later.

1b - ?

2b - Gordon Beckham - :lmao: Kid has looked fantastic this spring and the White Sox are just the type of team to let him take the job and run with it.

3b -

ss -

OF - Maybin should be starting CF for the Marlins. Does LaPorta make opening day roster in Clev?

SP - David Price is obivious.

Is a rookie firstbaseman sort of like a unicorn? Often talked about, but never seen. Seems to me that all first basemen, are veteran outfielders or catchers who can still hit for power, but can't play in the field anymore other than at first. I know there are exceptions to this generalization, but playing first in the minors or college would be the most frustrating thing in the world. Your chances of making it to The Show at that position would seem slimmer than at almost any other spot.

Joey Votto down? Billy Butler? Chris Davis played the majority of his games at 1B last year.Gaby Sanchez would qualify this year but I see his upside maxing out at the Lyle Overbay level, which is pretty poor for the position. Ishikawa is another in the same mold.Lars Anderson is an injury away from topping this list.

It seems like ever year there is a Rookie 1b making headlines...I wonder if this is his first year watching baseball...Prince Fielder, Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Howard...etc.

C: Wieters, Sandoval

1B: Lars Anderson, LaPorta

2B: maybe Antonelli?

SS: Andrus, Alcides Escobar

3B: Gamel, Brent Wallace, Viciedo

I think I understandwhat he means and I kind of agree. When you look at all the hyped up 1B coming up through the minors and college 98% of them probably never even get much of a shot in the majors because there is usually a vet with a solid bat who can't really play anywhere else except 1B/DH blocking his way. The guys listed are exceptions not the rule. Mr. P made a good point about KC having a bunch of them in the minors who may never get a decent shot. Funny thing about that is KC realy doesnt have that vet blocking the way. They just have a crapload of corner prospects. :goodposting:

White Sox homer alert:

Take it with a grain of salt, but I think Gordon Beckham is an uber-prospect. He will probably be stuck in AA for a month or so, but he will be the man at 2B or SS in Chicago for quite some time before long. I think he could hit .270 with 15+ homers right now, but a little seasoning will not hurt a prospect like Beckahm. If Alexei Ramirez doesn't quite fit at SS, I think the Sox may experiment with him in CF again, as the current crop(Wise/Owens/Anderson) absolutely stink.

Beckham has a good chance at being the best Gordon of all time. I'm excluding Joe Gordon, Tom Gordon and other players with the surname of Gordon. Mickey Cochrane was born Gordon Stanley Cochrane but I'll boot him too. That leaves Gordy Coleman (650 H in a nine year career in the early 60s as a Reds 1B), Gordon Slade (finished 15th in MVP voting as a Reds IF in 1934) and pitchers Gordon Jones (15-18 over eleven years beginning in 1954) and Gordon Rhodes (43-74 for some bad teams in the early 30s.

:goodposting: The other Gordons have nothing on Beckham. In all seriousness, check out his Arizona Fall League/CWS/'08 Minors performance for some proof that isn't just an optimistic homer talking. I'm usually beyond pessimistic when it comes to CWS prospects, but this Gordon simply passes the eye test, and seems to have "it", whatever it is.

I love, love, LOVE Andrus, and he is having a good spring. But for fantasy purposes, I worry about what he will bring to the table this year. He will hit 9th almost for sure. I worry about his BA and really doubt you will see any power at all. If he does get on base, he will run and run a ton. But if he slumps, I could see Texas going to Omar as a stopgap, sending Elvis down to AAA for a while.Add Davis to your list of 1B.

You love a Rangers prospect? Go figure.

Did you not read the BUT part. I don't think he is draftable in a 10 or 12 team league this year.

Daniel Murphy is a rook and is getting some good pub, what are his projections this year? Is he a good value as a 5th OF?

It depends how deep of a league. I have him, Dickerson, and Sheffield as my OF5, UTIL, and first guy off the bench in a 16 team league that starts 5 OF. I feel good about that. If it were a 12 team league I wouldn't feel great about having Murphy in my everyday lineup. I have him penciled in for 450 AB's .280 AVG 70 Runs 12 HR 70 RBI 8 SB. If he gets off to a hot start and Castillo (predictably) sucks maybe we'll see him in the 2 hole, then I'll feel better about him. I'd expect him to start the season batting 6th or 7th though.

Isn't Sandoval going to play 3rd? Might as well pencil in Buster Posey behind Wieters somewhere, he is also supposed to be good, though not sure if he's going to see much PT this year.Another OFer I might add is Jordan Schafer from the Braves. He's been tearing it up this spring, but might be blocked by Josh Anderson to start the year.

Sandoval has C eligibility in Yahoo. He's still not a cinch to play 3B regularly:
Sabean was less committed to Pablo Sandoval as the everyday third baseman, saying, "It's tough to evaluate Sandoval yet because we're not at the point where you're playing guys two or three days in a row. That's when you get a better read."
Although the Giants don't exactly have a wealth of infielders to put at 3B.If Posey is as talented and athletic as advertised, I wonder if it would be better for the Giants to play him somewhere other than behind the plate.

Posey is blocked at least for this year by Molina, one of the only guys with any power in the Giants lineup (as sad as that is). Molina isn't getting any younger, can't play anywhere else in the field, can't DH in the NL, and you have to figure they are thinking of Posey as the catcher of the future. I doubt he plays enough to get "rookie" status this year.I haven't been following super closely, but I was under the impression that Sandoval, if he was going to play every day, would be doing so at 3B. His C eligibility could be a major boon for fantasy purposes for this year, depending on how much PT he gets.

I like the Giants youth movement, it's fun to watch unfold. I'd love to see them give the Dodgers a run for their money this year.
