Top 5 American Bands of All Time - **official thread** (2 Viewers)

Any lists without the Beach Boys are doing it wrong. Brian Wilson had more talent than most of these bands combined.

1. Beach Boys

2. CCR

3. Van Halen

4. The Doors

5. Nirvana

In a simpler, stupider time, this is where wikkid would scold us over our eternal overlookfulness of his boyz, the feat.

1 E Street,

2 Warren Zevon and whoever he wanted to play with

3TP and the Hearbreakers

4 Fleetwood Mac ?? American?

5 Bob Seeger and the Seeger System

Honorable Mention

REO Speedwagon w/ Gary Richrath

The Doors blow, people.
I will fight you
I love a good ifight, but he's right. THE DOORS BLOW
The Doors the band America loves to claim to hate.
Hey, I listened to them in college as much as the next guy, but they really are pretty boring in all facets.
Morrison was a hell of a lyric writer and Manzerak was no slouch on the music side. They have sold more than 100 million albums. They had 3 albums in RS's top 500. They have had numerous songs inducted into halls of fame. And lastly boring is certainly the one thing they weren't.
Robby Krieger was $$$ as a songwriter as well.
True
Really liked The Doors as a teenager (note to parents: when your kids start liking the doors, they smoke weed)

Still like them, but have to admit they don't hold up as well as some other bands. And their live stuff is pretty bad (a lot of bands from that era don't have great live stuff due to equipment / recording limitations, but the Doors sound very thin live - the lack of a bass really hurts them.)

Still love the LA Woman album, though.

1 The Doors

2 Pearl Jam

3 Bruce Springsteen

4 jimi Hendrix

5 Nirvana

People in here hating on the Doors? Seriously? They are one of the greates bands of all time imo. Their music is still awesome today. There were unique and no other band is or was ever like The Doors.

I like the Doors quite a bit, but they wouldn't make my top 50. For me, there is simply too much great music out there to have time to listen to it all. I rarely revisit the Doors anymore.

Yeah I guess it's to each their own. I would definitely put them #1 for American bands.

Well, I was more referring to top 50 overall, but for American bands, the Doors are definitely one of the most influential and ground-breaking; they just aren't one of my personal favorites.

Well if Hendrix is out and David Byrne is Scottish (although he lived most of his life since aged 8 in America) then my revised list would be:

1. Bob Dylan and his assorted Bands

2. Beach Boys - as stated elsewhere Brian Wilson is mega-talented

3. Allman Brothers (with Suane)

4. Grateful Dead

5. how about the Steve Miller Band

I thought about this again. Here is my list.

Aerosmith

KISS - Original line up

Eagles

Journey

Metallica

This is the final list. All others are junk.
I'm sure you're a nice guy and all Doc, but Holy Christ.

I'd think about killing myself if those were the only 5 bands left on earth.

Steve Miller Band was good but almost the pop rock band of their day. Like the 70's version of Linkin Park.

Wikkid would have had a cool story or two as well. I miss that guy.
Right on the feat. and missing him too.

I'd add Allman Bros, Hendrix, Doors, and the Dead off the cuff if I had to choose just five, but that also speaks to my generation.

I've tried making a list, I can't narrow it down to 5. Surprised that there is not even a mention of ZZ Top, or the Beastie Boys. ####### Slayer for Christ's sake. Anyone?

Wanted to say Slayer but felt they didnt transcend. Top 3 metal band. Zztop is a good omission but not top five.

You got people poo-pooing the Doors but putting The Eagles in their top 5? The Eagles?? Goodness gracious.

The U.S. has been more dominated by individuals (who may have had backing bands, but for all intents and purposes, were still individual acts):

Elvis, Springsteen, Tom Petty, Hendrix, Dylan...

Neil Young is my favorite, but I didn't put him in my list for the "individual" reason.

Springsteen is debatable. He's the name, but I see that more as a band, despite occasional solo stuff.

That and him being Canadian and all.

Oh, and any list with the joke band Aerosmith in it is automatically wrong.

Honestly Jim Morrison couldn't carry Don Henley's jock. The Doors just suck. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you that both your muscial and college basketball tastes are terrible, but.....The Doors and Syracuse? Yeah, close that oven door tight Nipsey.

I laughed. Listening to Strange Days as I type this.

I don't think Don Henley wore a jock, because I think he hated them.
