Top 5 picks from same conference, ever happened? (1 Viewer)

So here's a decent chance of the 2010 Top 5 picks:

STL: QB Sam Bradford - OU

DET: DT Ndamukong Suh - Nebraska

TB: DT Gerald McCoy - OU

WAS: OT Trent Williams - OU

KC: OT Russell Okung - Ok. State

Also possible #6 could be WR Dez Bryant - Ok. State, though I don't think Seattle takes him, personally.

Anyway, this is quite possible. Has this ever happened before? Also pretty impressive 3 of top 4 could come from same school.

and yet,the SEC is still winning it all....and said school, for all it's talent, could not even make it to their own conf championship game...

Better talent than coaching?

In both 2000 and 1984, players from the same school went 1-2 in the draft. That's about the closest I can think of.

An the fact that Bradford was hurt most of the season. Landry, his replacement, was functional at QB but was far from being Bradford. Williams did not have as good a year as many thought but that could be that he played most of the year at center not his true position. He has been a late riser due to his combine and proday workouts and the fact that he has shown flexibility along the entire line. However he will not go before Okung. More than in any other sport, one great football player does not make a great football team.

Possibly, but also you have to look at depth...this isn't basketball where two guys can take over. I am an ACC fan and considering their record, UVA had some awesome players (Long, D'Brick, Schaub, etc), yet they never could put anything together, because the rest of the team just didn't have the talent (you could say the same for NC State, though they did have one very good year with that talent).

In 1945, the first four picks were from the SEC: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/draft/1945.htm

Charlie Trippi (Georgia), Paul Duhart (Florida), Joe Renfroe (Tulane) and Eddie Prokop (Georgia Tech); the fifth pick was Elroy Hirsch (Michigan).

In 1967, Michigan State had three of the first five picks (Bubba Smith, Clint Jones and George Webster) while Purdue (Bob Griese) had the best of the bunch.
