Top 5 rookie Wide Receivers drafted? (1 Viewer)

robb

Footballguy
List your top 5 rookie wide receivers for fantasy value in 2008.

I'll start:

1. Hardy, Buf

2. Thomas, Wash

3. Jackson, Phil

4. Sweede, Pit

5. Kelly, Wash

Not too high on any of them, but some one may break out of the pack. Washington having 2 of them makes it more uncertain, and others, i.e. Royal and Avery were selected high but unknown IMO.

Still sorting through this mess. I like where Kelly, Thomas, Royal, Sweed, and Nelson went. Nelson is buried in GB, but they have a good track record of evaluating WR's recently and they picked him earlier than Jennings or Jones. They must be pretty high on him.

Philly is a decent spot for Jackson. He's better than Brown. Now we just have to see much his size will limit his potential.

Earl Bennett just landed in Chicago. Good spot for him. He's a good sleeper to make an early impact.

Jerome Simpson is one of my early picks to be a huge bust. Enigmatic talent drafted by a scrub organization = :lmao: .

It's comments like this that make people roll their eyes when the Shark Pool is mentioned. Blowhards who have no real idea what they are talking about.Carson Palmer is throwing him the ball, Simpson can jump over people, biggest hands, Carson Palmer. 4.45, stud. He'll have the best rookie season out of all of the WRs drafted thus far.

He can't catch the ball. That's a problem at the WR position. The Bengals have a pretty extensive history of wasting their draft picks. Simpson should keep that tradition alive.

Keep burying your head in the sand my blowhard amiga.
You just don't know much at all now do you? He has the biggest hands...11 inches. How can't you catch the ball with mits like that. Added to the fact that Chad may sit out. He's looking to be Carson's #2 option. Simpson is the next Chad Johnson. Same sort of player.

:( You're obviously the wrong person to be lecturing others on the Bengals WR's, "amiga".

I'll take a stab:

#33 STL Avery

#34 WAS Thomas

#36 GBP Nelson

#41 BUF Hardy

#42 DEN Royal

What other list is there when there are no first round picks at WR?

Are you sure it's not comments like this? Besides...

Tribe Called Jeff learns a lot from EBF's posts, EBF can post over people, most knowledge, Tribe Called Jeff.

The hierarchy and stubborness of the SHark Pool makes it the laughing stock of FBGs. You people read things but have no real idea what makes an NFL star. It's all bs floating around in here. I'm embarassed for your parents.

I'm sure that all of us could benefit by listening to more Bengals fans like yourself to instruct us on "what makes an NFL star". Please, for our edification and undying gratitude, unpack whatever it is that you're packing.

Feel free to never post here again. Calling respectable posters like EBF blowhards shows your level of maturity. This is a message board for adults. Behave as such.

WILL EVERYBODY JUST RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems like you're the only guy screaming. Maybe easy up on the coffee buddy?
You realize of course that that's just larger font - he's not literally screaming, right? You also realize, of course, that by telling everyone to relax in large font might have been intended as ironical humor.

Finally, you should realize that ScottNorwood has to cover his keyboard with plastic to prevent the drool from shorting it out.

Agreed.

Can we all just get back to my original question, which by the way, no one has posted an answer to yet.

List your top 5 rookie WRs in order as to your best guess as to their fantasy impact this year.

Avery, Devin Thomas and James Hardy stand out to me as guys that will have a good chance to start by October.

This year?

Hardy

Thomas

Royal?

have the best chance at being #2's

Jackson

Simpson

Avery

Doucet

should be #3's on good offenses

Kelly/Bennett/Sweed wild-cards who could be #2 or #3's.

This guy. Jerome Simpson is my #1 right now. Best situation for dynasty. AS far as the film on NFL network where he drops some at the combine. He smoked the gauntlet. He stumbled out of a break on one and the timeing was off on another 'drop'. He did drop 2 that he should have caught.

wow

I guess I'm just dense

1) Ben Roethlisberger signs a $100 million contract

2) Ben says "we need a bigass receiver" right before the draft

3) Stilerz draft 6'4 Limas Sweed, highest ranked receiver on several draft boards

and now we're still wondering who has the most fantasy value? Aside from Jackson, who might have McNabb throwing to him somewhere around 12-14 games, who else on this list even has a solid QB throwing him the ball?

Buffalo? Losman/Edwards? Washington? Jason Campbell? Green Bay...who exactly will start in place of Favre?

c'mon gents. This one is a wash. The $100million bonus baby asks, he receives, he throws. Red zone. Limas Sweed will break 10 TDs this year.

10 TDs as the #3 WR?

:lmao: that's the main drawback with Sweed. He's not going to get targeted more than Ward or Holmes this season and the Steelers don't throw enough for their #3 to get enough action to have a big year, especially a 10 TD year.

:lmao: TT, McCarthy, scout Lenny McGill and WRs coach Jimmy Robicon were all extremely high on Jordy.I see him as being a much more valuable NFL receiver than fantasy receiver since the Packer receiving corps is getting quite crowded with great young talent.

I like Nelson but he won't get a lot of playing time.

Rams | YAC important in the selection of Avery

Sun, 27 Apr 2008 12:11:07 -0700

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan is a stickler for yards after the catch. He believes second-round selection WR Donnie Avery can help in that category. The Rams were tied for 30th in NFL in that category last season, averaging only 4.1 yards after each reception. That's the lowest figure for the team since they moved to St. Louis. Linehan said the Rams regarded Avery as the best yards-after-the-catch receiver in the draft.

Rams | Avery expected to fill need for a deep threat

Sun, 27 Apr 2008 11:59:27 -0700

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams second-round selection WR Donnie Avery has a chance to be the team's No. 3 receiver this season. The Rams have been missing a deep threat in the passing game since losing Philadelphia Eagles WR Kevin Curtis in free agency prior to last season.

I really like Jordy and even commented that he had me drooling a little because he seemed so undervalued. Well, great. The media missed him but he was far from undervalued by the league. I own Jennings and Jones. Bummer for me all the way around. I really like Jennings and Jones, and even believe Ruvell Martin was coming on nicely, but don't sell Jordy short because of this. He is very talented.

1. Thomas, Wash - It will probably take Thomas a few years to get acclimated to the NFL but there shouldn't be a huge amount of pressure in Wash with Moss and Cooley already there. Not too mention Portis and the running game. Campbell is a great young QB with a live arm and Thomas seems like a good match for him.

2. Sweed, Pitt - Sweed looks like the safest of all the WRs in this class to me now that he is a Steeler. He will enter into a great system with one of the best QBs in the NFL passing to him. There will be little pressure as a rookie with Holmes, Ward and Miller around which should allow him to ease into the NFL game.

3. Manningham, NYG - Boom or bust potential here. Manningham has the ability to be the best WR in this class. I really love that he will be paired up with Eli Manning.

4. Hardy, Buf - Big physical WR who should see the best opportunity to play right away in Buf.

5. Jackson, Philly - I think Jackson really lucked out and got drafted into the perfect system for his skills.

I'll have more to say about this group in the coming weeks. There were no 1st rounders, but there were something like 10 receivers selected in the 2nd. You can bet there are some long-term gems in there.

1. Devin Thomas - Should become the eventual #1 WR in Was and possible #2 as soon as this year.

2. Limas Sweed - Could Sweed take over the #1 role over Holmes when Ward is done? Holmes might be better suited to stick as the #2.

3. Mario Manningham - Has the tools and best shot of the current young-guns to become the Giants future #1

4. James Hardy - It'll be tough for him to overtake Evans as the #1 guy.

5a. Earl Bennett - Not the best situation, but you have to think the passing game will get better and he doesn't have much to beat out.

5b. Malcolm Kelly - Future #2? who will fight it out for years to become the #1 over Thomas.

Bunch pretty close after this.

1. Donnie Avery(top WR taken, and to a very good situation)

2. Devin Thomas(maybe the most talented WR of the class, Campbell will hurt his short term value)

3. James Hardy(Good combo of size and speed, should fit great along side Evans)

4. Limas Sweed(I will like him more once Ward is gone)

5. Earl Bennett(Good news is he could easily be the #1 there, bad news is Grossman is still the Bears QB)

It's when the intended meaning of something and the literal meaning of something are opposite or in contrast to one anotherEdit to say: Scott Norwood's post is Ironic.

Heath Miller has to figure into this equation somewhere. Unless, of course, you expect Roeth to throw 40 td.

ya, didn't even throw him in there. Sweed will likely be the 4th option in the passing game for 08' at least. He does have some nice longterm potential, but i think anyone expecting much from him this season as the 4th option on a running team (who might even run more now with Mendy) is being a bit presumptuous.

I'm sure that solid line of bolded thinking helped you steer clear of the undesireable likes of Dwayne Bowe and Sidney Rice last year. Sure, it is nice to have an all-pro chucking the rock to a rookie WR, but that shouldn't cause you to cross those types of wr's who have the dregs throwing to them off your list.

I have much respect for EBF's posts and thoughts but I disagree on Simpson. As a Bengal fan, I was happy with the pick and actually had him on my wish list before the draft.
