Interesting ... rankings seem a bit ... off in some places.

Draftdaddy thinks out of the box?
Sometimes. I'm just glad they have a seemingly complete list. What are you referring to specifically?
I started to think this when I hit the WRs, am an IDP fan but will not go there since no one in this forum cares as much ...3. Andre Davis Houston

6. Keary Colbert Carolina

11. Samie Parker Kansas City

12. D.J. Hackett Seattle

13. Jabar Gaffney N.E. Patriots

14. Justin Gage Tennessee

Davis is a little high, Colbert is way high, and Hackett, Gaffney and Gage should be uber-upset at being ranked so low, especially behind Samie Parker ...

OL doesn't normally get "love from the homies", but I highly doubt Larry Allen could be the #4 OG while approaching retirement. I also disagree with Chris Terry and George Foster as the #5 and #6 OT's, respectively. Plus, Lilja (IND) and Scott (IND) will be toast once they leave the Colts (see Rick DeMulling).

Rather than discuss the rankings, I'm hoping there's discussion along the lines of "I hope my team 'X' gets player 'Y'" and explain why.

Cleveland needs

-A newer version of Willie McGinest, Bruschi please?

-If Ogden doesn't retire [baltimore may not have the cap room to re-sign/franchise Terrell Suggs] Suggs would fit in nicely opposite Wimbley

-I've always dug Demorrio Williams, just had problems staying healthy/getting into the lineup. He may be a good value.

-Mike Doss on the cheap would be some nice depth at S if Baxter isn't able to get back up to speed

-Hackett is not the 12th best WR available so I won't dream we could have him on the cheap; Patten or Bryant Johnson though? They'd both look good in Cleveland uniforms.

-If Bobby McCray, Corey Williams, or Brian Young were cheap enough [or we can't land Suggs] I'd love to target them too.

Looks like a decent year for defensive free agents, we'll see who/how many are franchised.

I really dig that draftdaddy site. Every yr the guys there do a tremendous job with their rankings and coverage.I know first hand the owner went to the senior bowl and a has a eye for talent. They will be doing a live NFL DRAFT chat on our website ( JetNation.com) this spring. I will post the info if any of you guys wnat to come by and check it out.

Houston needs: RB, LT, CB, S's

- I'd like to see the Texans go after one of those top 6 guys (not Turner so much) and draft a backup.

- Would love for us to go after J. Gross but I'm sure he's gonna be pricey. But we need someone young and active at that LT spot.

- I'm really happy with our wr corps I'd like us to re-sign Davis but if not I'd like us to go after maybe D. Carter.

- All of the good corners on that list like they may be just alittle too pricey for my likings but maybe get a guy with speed and

maybe get more depth like a Stanley wilson. I think the Texans will draft a CB or 2 in this draft.

- I followed Boss Bailey for the first 2 years of his career and he was always hurt haven't really seen or heard of him since but would like to bring him in.(I love speed)

- Doss would be an upgrade over anything we have now.

I'd rather have them get Suggs than Bruschi.

Well...while we are hoping.GB should do the following.Let Corey Williams go in free agency...trade or release KGB...move Cullen Jenkins back to DT...sign Jared Allen.Allen/Jenkins/Pickett/Kampman That is one hell of a front 4.

also remember that the odds of the top players on these list hitting the open market is slim. Most of them will be franchised if not re-signed before they even hit the open market

For the Browns...

Offense

If we lose DA via trade or FA then we need a veteran back-up QB. Billy Volek would be a good fit there.

Lots of Browns fans want Michael Turner, but I just cant see us spending the money that he wants for the RB position. I think we resign Lewis for another year and try to sign a Michael Bennet or Chris Brown. I'd really like to see us get Fargas, but I doubt Oakland lets him go.

At WR I'd like to see us get Bernard Berrian, but Bryant Johnson may wind up being a better value for the money.

For our own FA's, I'd like to see us resign Lewis on a short term contract and Lennie Freidman for depth at guard and center. Whether we keep DA depends on the offer in my opinion.

Defense

The Browns need front 7 help, particularly on the d-line but I really don't see any impact players on the d-line. Albert Haynesworth would seem to be a good pick, but I believe he'll get lazy again once he gets a big contract.

Corey Williams would be a good fit at DE and I think we can get him at a value. Same with Tommy Kelly and I'd like us to get both.

If Terrell Suggs hits the market the Browns should not hesitate to sign him to a long term deal. He'd be perfect opposite Wimbley.

Karlos Dansby would be a good pick-up, but I think someone will outspend us for him. We still don't know what our young guys can do behind a decent d-line.

While everyone else is throwing money at Asante Samuel, I'd like to see the Browns quietly sign Nnamdi Asomugha. He's being overlooked by everyone so far.

I also like the idea of the Browns signing Mike Doss on the cheap.

I'd like the Browns to resign Ethan Kelly. He's versatile and is solid depth.

I don't think there's any reason for the Browns to puruse another FA RB if they re-sign J Lew, who I prefer over The Burner. Wright was a formidable backup/change-of-pace guy and Harrison made a lot of strides this year, they're cheap too.No way Berrian comes to Cleveland when he would be, at best, the third option in the passing game. He thinks he's a #1 and will go somewhere to be a #1 (and be paid like it too).Haynesworth comes with a lot of risks and will cost an arm and a leg, I wanted him a few months ago when our run D was getting scorched but not that I've had time to think about it I'd rather pass. That and everything I've head has Shaun Smith, ideally, becoming out full time NT. In which case, no Haynesworth. He may not be an effective 3-4 NT anyway, or at least as effective as he was in Tennessee's 4-3 scheme.Asomugha will in all likelihood be a Raider in 08 and beyond, their #1 priority is to re-sign him long term. If they don't I'd expect a franchise tag to be slapped on him. Besides, if he was to hit FA no way the Browns pursue him, not with our current stable of CBs. If there's one strength on the Browns D it is at CB, they need to address other areas this offseason.I loved Ethan Kelly this year, but he just went under the knife [microfracture knee surgery]; it's a really dicey procedure - the recovery time is 4-12 months and if it goes wrong can be career threatening. If he is recovering successfully I'd love to bring him back, but not until I know for sure.

Gross but I'm sure he's gonna be pricey. In addition to those needs the Texans also need a DE, DT, SLB, and OCCharlie Anderson and Danny Clark are both FA. I think we might try to re-sign Anderson and/or add a FA like Karlos Dansby, Calvin Pace, or Clark Haggans. I think another position that will (should) be addressed in FA is DT. The Texans need a big space eater to help in run support, possibly someone like Isaac Sopoaga. A pass rusher is another need but I think that might be something that is addressed on the second day of the draft. If not the Texans could look at a cheap option to bring in on passing plays like Bobby McCray. Safety and corner is somewhere else that I think the Texans have to look in free agency and the draft. I think we try to re-sign Hutchins and Demps and then add several pieces through the draft and free agency. The Texans are supposedly looking for bigger corners and have shown a bias toward hard hitting safeties (emphasis hasn't really been places on ball skills when choosing safeties.) Possibilities include Drayton Florence (even though he cheap shotted Matt Schaub), Randall Gay, William James, and Gibril Wilson.I think the offensive line sees huge turnover with the Alex Gibbs hire. With Weary's injury and slower feet I think he is as good as gone. I also think Flanagan is gone and Charles Spencer probably won't make it back from his injury. I don't think much is done here in free agency though. I think the Texans take a LT on the first day of the draft and either work with what they have at C (McKinney and Eslinger) or pick up a UDFA to groom. By all accounts Ahman Green will be back and you have to assume Ron Dayne will as well. Taylor and Walker will both likely be at camp but I think the Texans add another guy here. My guess is a first day draft pick but I also wouldn't be suprised to see them sign a Michael Turner, Mewelde Moore, or Derrick Turner. I'm going to assume Andre Davis is re-signed, if he isn't they will obviously do something there as well.

-A newer version of Willie McGinest, Bruschi please?
Bruschi and McGinest are two completely different types of players. Also, Bruschi has taken way below market value to remain in New England in the past, and serves as his own agent. I'd be completely blown away if he left town.

I'll be shocked if he doesn't retire after the Super Bowl.

Listening to the administration this off-season, it seems as though they are not going to spend heavy dollars on a single poistion. I would not expect them pursue the top of the lists with the Kansbys and Turners of the world. I think we will see a good number of players, but mostly in the range that we signed Clark and A. Davis, etc this past year.On Davis, Kubiak said that he and Rick Smith had dinner with Davis on Wednesday. the Texans are pursueing him, so we will see if Houston can get that done before the FA period starts. I could see Davis thinking that this is his last chance to get a decent contract not signing with the Texans until he sees what the market will bear. At RB, I think that if a Moore/ward type is signed, we won't be seeing much of Ron Dayne anymore. The mention has been to get younger at the position, so a draft pick in order, but since barring trade the Texans don't have a 2nd and there is depth at RB in the draft and thinking Choice/Hart type in round 3 or 4. At CB, the names you have are about the correct range. These are guys that could start until Robinson gets back but maybe best as CB3. At DE, there does seem to be several guy Odom , McCray who are upgrades over the pass rush the Texans are getting, but not really dynamic or expensive. Getting even a 6 ot 8 sack guy would be a help.

Any thoughts on where Dallas Clark ends up and for how much? I'm curious as to what degree his success can be attributed to playing with Payton Manning and that offense. I don't think he is a gamebreaker, but I think another team could get consistent production from him.

I would be :D if he were to become a Viking. Visanthe Shiancoe was a bust and Childress really seems to want an upgrade to the TE spot.

Oh, if "King" Carl Peterson would only spend a little $, there are a few guys I would love to see in a Chefs uniform next year!!

Considering the Chargers biggest needs would be S, RT, RG, ILB I'm not seeing much to get excited about with the free agents.

Such as?
WR and OL are the Chefs biggest concern entering FA/NFL draft:Berrian: The Chefs need a playmaker on the outside who can stretch the field. Croyle has a great arm and a compliment to Bowe such as Bernard would help alot

Bryant Johnson: Another player who can stretch the field, but also serves as a pretty good possession receiver

DJ Hackett: A prover WR commodity who can help the young WR's in KC. When we let go of Kennison and Parker, Jeff Webb will be the most experienced WR on that team

Flozell Adams, Ryan Lilja, and Jeff Faine could only help the OL disaster that was KC last year.

Any thoughts on where Dallas Clark ends up and for how much? I'm curious as to what degree his success can be attributed to playing with Payton Manning and that offense. I don't think he is a gamebreaker, but I think another team could get consistent production from him.
Has Indy made any indication that they wont keep him?
I believe when the Colts extended Bob Sanders' contract that a local writer stated this should all but spell the end of the Dallas Clark era, they can't afford him.

now that makes it interesting for me as far as if he is 1 of my 12 keepers for the upcoming season..oh boy

Rather than discuss the rankings, I'm hoping there's discussion along the lines of "I hope my team 'X' gets player 'Y'" and explain why.
Well...while we are hoping.GB should do the following.

Let Corey Williams go in free agency...trade or release KGB...move Cullen Jenkins back to DT...sign Jared Allen.

Allen/Jenkins/Pickett/Kampman That is one hell of a front 4.
Packers GM Ted Thompson is unlikely to sign Corey Williams. I'd guess he gets KGB at a slightly reduced contract (but either way I think he's back). There is almost no way Green Bay signs Jared Allen. 1) He'll cost way too much...not Thompson's style and 2) His off the field issues make him a bad fit for an organization run like Green Bay is.Offense: If the Pack goes out and signs a free agent from that list is will probably be an interior lineman like Fred Weary who has some experience in the zone blocking scheme.

Defense: I'd love to see Thompson sign a corner moving Charles Woodson to free safety (ala Rod Woodson, start Bigby or Rouse at SS) but that does seem like a pipe dream at this point.

You know it's a bad group of QB's if Rex Grossman is at the top of the list.

The two biggest names IMO are Randy Moss and Samuel. I don't know how the Patriots would be able to sign them both, maybe Randy Moss will play for less money for NE since he's such a team player.

My guess for them is they sign Moss again and they probably lose Samuel and try to upgrade thru the draft on defense.

Can they afford it though? Last I saw their cap situation was un-good.

Here is where I read it:Dallas Clark-TE- Colts Jan. 18 - 4:48 pm et

Colts GM Bill Polian says Dallas Clark will likely be franchise tagged this offseason.

Polian doesn't expect to reach a long-term accord with Clark before late February. The franchise number for tight ends (likely around $6-7 million).
