I'm sure I'm far from the first to discuss this, but during one of my many "wtf am I doing at work" daydreams I pondered the following question.
With the new rookie pay-scale, do you think there may be players who intentionally "tank" or present realistically non-existent character flaws to intentionally tank their draft position to fall to "better" teams?
In case this is only clear to me, what I mean is this:
The rookie pay-scale, IMO, really took a huge hit out of being a top 5-10 pick. Therefore, is it at all plausible that because of this, a player would make an effort to "fall down the draft ladder" to the upper echelon teams who are likely to be drafting in the later spots of the first round.
Clearly, their contracts would be lower, but they would be part of a potential SB winning team, and make up for their lost wages in future years (of course assuming they thrive/avoid injury).
I know.. I know... In the sports world, it's all about C.R.E.A.M, but it still kinda stuck in my head.
anyone?
ETA: Im referring to College prospects headed into the NFL draft... sounds like some may have missed that
