Top-ten mock (1 Viewer)

Bracie Smathers

Footballguy
Their are typically six trades per first round in an average draft. Already this draft has four picks impacted by trades, three from last year and one a few weeks ago, so it should not suprise anyone to see at the very least two more first round trades before the first round is in the books. I'm sure no one would be suprised to see more than two trades made and it is possible we see two within the top ten picks.

Knowing that trades will take place means that mock drafts go out the window within the first couple of picks due to suprise picks and trades so the excersize isn't accuracy but to try and figure out patterns. I can't possibly predict the entire first round so I'm only trying to figure out a logical pattern for the top dozen picks. I am confident we will see a trade and possibly two trades in the top ten picks.

TOP DOZEN PICKS MOCK

1. Colts - QB - A.Luck - Stanford

Already announced.

2. Redskins - QB - R.Griffin - Baylor (Trade)

Pick a lock.

3. Vikings - WR - J.Blackmon - Oklahoma St.

Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings weren't sold on Kalil. Kiper and McShay have passed along that they have heard some rumors along the same lines. They went into a detailed discussion and made cases for both Blackmon and Claiborne. Schefter felt at the time he originally tweeted this information that Blackmon would was where Minnesota was leaning. "My feeling today is in the minority. Think WR Justin Blackmon." I either Schefter or Jay Glazor report something then I tend to listen.

*4. Rams - (Trade) OT - M.Kalil - USC

Rmas made a killing in the RG III trade and still wind up getting the guy they would have originally taken at #2 pick plus they still are sitting on Washington's 2nd round pick this year and their 1st rnd picks in 2013 and 2014.

[trade details] St. Louis moves up from #4 to #6 sending 2nd round pick (#33) to Cleveland.

5. Tampa - RB - T.Richardson - Alabama

Ronde Barber is 36. Talib Aquib is a head case. They could use a corner but Trent Richardson is a playmaker. Could go either way but a RB who touches the ball 20 times a game and who can make plays should have more impact than a CB who only has so many opportunities to impact a game with a big play. If this decision faces them then I think they go Richardson.

*6. Browns - (Trade) WR - M.Floyd - Notre Dame

If Blackmon and Richardson are off the board and they can't pull off a trade to move down and still wind up with FLoyd then he could be the pick.

[trade details] St. Louis moves up from #4 to #6 sending 2nd round pick (#33) to Cleveland.

7. Jaguars - CB - M.Claiborne - LSU

Reports of them moving back could spur a trade here but if Claiborne is still there then he will go here even if Jacksonville isn't the team holding the pick.

8. Miami - QB - R.Tannehill - TAMU

Miami lost WR Brandon Marshall and are left with a weak receiving corps but in this scenario they don't have an option to land a blue-chip wideout so choose to fill their QB need. Fingers crossed that Matt Moore can keep the starting job long enough till Tannenhill has a fighting chance to succeed.

9. Carolina - DT - F.Cox - Mississippi St.

Cox seems to be the BPA so Lina gets a big man who can move.

10. Bills - OL - C.Glenn - Georgia

Melvin Ingram could go here but Cordy has the, size, strength, and footwork, to become a good OLT. A bit of a project but OLTs are prized and Glenn has the tools to make the transition but would probably need a rookie year starting at OG before he's ready to make the move next yeear to OLT ALA Jon Ogden. Ogden started his rookie season at OG before making the move but the Ravens had OLT Tony Jones so they had the luxury to put a stud OLT at OG with Ogden even though Jon didn't need to be eased into the blind side. Glenn needs some work right now before he can make the switch.

11. K.C - LB - L.Kuechly - Boston College

Linebackers taken this high recently have had bad track records but the buzz is reaching a fever pitch on Kuechly right time. KC hopes Luke turns into an stud like Urlacher but they would be happy if he turned out to be a solid Derrick Johnson type of linebacker.

12. Seattle - OG - D.DeCastro - Stanford

If Tannenhill somehow drops then he's not making it past the Seahawks. I think Ingram would be a possibility and he could be but DeCastro is such a sure thing and paired with Carpenter, last year's top pick, could help forge a solid offensive line going forward.

the suprise is Minnesota passing on Kalil to take Blackmon which will shift the top part of the round. If Claiborne is the last blue-chip prospect left and somehow makes it to Jacksonville then they likely would move down. Philly contacted the Browns about the 4th pick but the Browns won't move that far down however Jacksonville could pull the trigger.

Here's my stab at this

Top 12:

1. IND - QB A. Luck (STANFORD)

2. WAS - QB R. Griffin (BAYLOR) [TRADE w/ STL]

3. MIN - T M. Kalil (USC)

4. CLE - RB T. Richardson (BAMA)

5. TB - CB M. Claiborne (LSU)

6. STL - WR J. Blackmon (OKST)[TRADE w/ WAS]

7. KC - QB R. Tannehill (TAMU) [Trade w/ JAX]

8. MIA - T R. Reiff (IOWA)

9. CAR - DT F. Cox (MISS ST)

10. BUF - M. Floyd (ND)

11. JAX - CB S. Gilmore (SC) [Trade w/ KC] + KC 2012 2nd rd

12. SEA - M. Ingram (SC)

looks right to me.Tho I do like how the Op had some surprise picks.Unfortunately, I dont see it playing out that way

I dont think that anyone is going to be right, guaranteed there are more than 2-3 trades in the first 12 picks.

If there are no trades into the top 12 thats how it goes imo.... Cleveland, Jacksonville, and Seattle are where I think trades could happen.

I wouldnt be suprised if someone tries to trade with Vikings in order to get in front of the Browns for Richardson, Claiborne, Tannehill and or Blackmon.

blackmon at 3
If Schefter or Jay Glazer report something then I've learned to listen.Schefter states the Vikings are not sold on Kalil with the #3 pick.Kiper and McShay are not nearly as valid sources of information but they also report the same story.Schefter reports information which I value. In this same tweet he gave an opinion which is not what Schefter is known for, he is an excellent reporter and that is seperate from his personal opninions but he felt that WR Justin Blackmon would be the pick at the time he reported in a tweet that Minnesota was not sold on Kalil with the #3 pick. I have not seen anything to dispute his original tweet or his personal opnion that Blackmon is where the Vikings were leaning. Kiper and McShay debated who the Vikings could take instead of Kalil and could not come up with one name that stood out so I revert back to the original story which I value that the Vikngs are not sold on Kalil. If they aren't sold on Kalil then they could go in any direction and Schefter's opinion is not worth as much as his reported information but neither Kiper or McShay had better options for the pick and they both made cases for Blackmon. I happen to like Blackmon more than many and feel he's worth the #3 selection.I think they would be making a mistake to pass Kalil but if they are not sold on him and cannot trade down and decide to pass on him then I agree with Schefter and think the pick would be Blackmon.

Here's mine as of now

Ind-Luck

Wash-RG3

Minn-Kalil

Cle-Richardson

TB-Claiborne

STL-Blackmon

Jax-Ingram

Mia-Tannehill

Car-Cox

Buf-Barron

blackmon is nothing more than #2 receiver... any team taking him in the top 10 is making a huge mistake. that pick would be horrible for the vikes imo but as a packer fan i love it. as a football fan i hate it.

Wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened:

1. Indianapolis - Luck

2. Washington - Griffin

3. Minnesota - Kalil

4. Cleveland - Claiborne: Maybe hoping for Doug Martin with their next pick.

5. Tampa Bay - Richardson

6. St. Louis - Cox: I'm not projecting trades, but I'd expect this to be a move up for Kalil/Claiborne or a move down for Blackmon/Floyd.

7. Jacksonville - Gilmore

8. Miami - Tannehill

9, Carolina - Blackmon: Ron Rivera strikes me as the type to not expect this to happen, and pull the trigger when it does.

10. Buffalo - Reiff

11. Kansas City - Kuechly

12. Seattle - Ingram

Buffalo has 2 very good safeties. Barron would be a huge shock.
I mentioned this in the Cowboys thread, but I had heard earlier in the week from a former Buffalo scout who still has ties in Buffalo stating that Barron as well as Kuechly are in the discussion at 10. They are very torn on Reiff with only a few supporters. Anyway....Lombardi also just moked Barron to Buffalo...perhaps adding some credence to my post.http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-path-to-the-draft/09000d5d8287ad4e/Michael-Lombardi-s-mock-draft-1-20

Looks like the Barron to Buffalo talk is picking up steam with a bunch of WGR guys saying he's among the top 3 most likely picks now.

I don't like it at all. There should be good players at positions that are much bigger needs. I'd rather take Keuchly than Barron, and Gilmore/Claiborne/Kirkpatrick over either of those guys.

Hopefully this is just a smokescreen.

Exactly. Keuchly is the long term answer that the bills need at LB. I expect that there will be much more interest in him tomorrow night, and a good chance that a team tries to move into the to 10 to get him.

Agree, but think it might be a move to the #9 spot to jump Buffalo.
