Torre NOT Coming Back (1 Viewer)

I know this is old news, but the offer the yanks made seemed reasonable. Was it a pay cut? Yeah, what was he making $7 mil. a year? So they offered him $5 MM, if he doesn't make the playoffs that is all he gets, for each series he wins he gets a nice $1 MM bonus. All they care about are rings and Torre has not been producing. How does $5 MM a year stack up to what other managers are making? Reading The Post sounded like the Angels might be interested in him, how much are they going to offer? One of the excuses he used was, he didn't want the weight of being fired on his back every year if his team did not win, well then win!
Wow, Mike Scoscia is welcome in our dugout anytime if they would actually do that. BTW, this whole thing is fixin to get a whole lot uglier, as Joe is basically insinuating that Levine or someone in the Yankee high command propped up George to condemn Joe on the night he ranted.

Torre is not that good of a manager. He makes many mind-boggling moves. Yes, he can manage the egos and has the player's respect...

But, with as much talent as the Yankees have had, I'm not sure how much credit should go to Joe for getting into the playoffs and beyond.

No.

 $5 million with a chance to make more than he did the year before. And if he wins the pennant he's guaranteed more money in 2 years than he made from his previous three year contract.

Still, I don't blame Torre for walking away.

Whoever they hire will be making significantly less than $5 mil.

So Joe Torre is not a good manager but JD Drew is a great baseball player? You sir are an idiot.

No.
I don't think I asked a question?
12 years in New York, 12 playoff appearances, 6 World Series appearances, and 4 World Championships. As a point of reference the Red Sox have 5 Wolrd Series appearances and 1 World Championship since Joe was born in 1940.Also he did a great job in his early years in New York including a fairly improbable title in 1996 and sneaking in in 1999 and then running people over. Those Paul O'Neil, Scott Brosius, Tino Martinez teams weren't like the current Yankee teams, they had a solid foundation and younger Pettitte and Clemens leading the rotation. When Joe actually had to manage, he did well. Over the past few years he has lost in the playoffs to teams that had better pitching in almost every case.
