Torry Holt-WR- Rams Aug. 28 - 8:52 am et

Torry Holt admits his rehab from knee surgery is well behind schedule.

Holt estimates he's only 70-80 percent healthy. "I don't know if it'll ever heal all the way," Holt said. "But I think it will heal enough where it will allow me to go out and play." This is now a major concern. Holt struggled to separate last season with loose cartilage in his knee and is likely to do the same this year at substantially less than full health.

I've got him as my #1WR. I'm not too worried, but it isn't great news.

It was more of a maintenance/clean-up surgury. I would be more worried if he wrecked the knee last year. The knee was probably 80% or so all last year and he put up pretty good numbers. As long as he plays with that offence/crap defence, he'll get his.

Do you guys think this bumps anyone else up on the Rams, or do those receiving yards just go away for Bulger if Holt is not 100%?

70% of Holt is better then most WR's.. I would only worry if he is talking about sitting some weeks..
You don't worry that he goes from elite to "better than most WRs"?That would scare the crap out of me.
Is he missing practice?? If not why put too much worry then.. From what I read he is still playing. Would I drop him down of course but I still think he is top 10.. I wouldn't panic yet..

I think this hurts Holt more than it helps anyone else. It sounds like he'll tough it out all year and prevent anyone else from really stepping up to take his targets. Maybe they run a bit more? Jackson was already going to get a heavy workload.

The "I don't know if it will ever heal all the way" is especially troubling. It's like he's resigned to not being at full strength.

Why is Holt's injury generally disregarded, while Portis is being treated as if he was the one that had off season knee surgery?

Drew Bennett and Isaac Bruce stock goes up...Bruce is really really old isn't he?
Isaac Bruce caught four passes for 77 yards in Friday night's exhibition.Bruce surprised us with a strong finish to last season, consistently outplaying Torry Holt. Rev. Ike, who is consistently being undervalued in fantasy leagues, is an excellent low-cost WR4 pick. Source ROTOWORLDBruce maybe old 35, but he's looking more and more like a nice value pick

Remember when he has perpetual hamstring problems in the late 90s? Seems to have licked that for quite a while now.

Marvin Harrison....Born: 8/25/1972Terrell Owens....Born: 12/7/1973Isaac Bruce....11/10/1972He's not as old as most people think. The difference lies where TO and Harrison have 12 years experience and Bruce has 14.That said, He is GREAT value at his ADP and I think he will do very well this year considering Holt's injury/recovery issues. Also keep in mind that, in spite of his age, he has increased his YPC every year over the last 5 seasons.

Totally. Avoid him.(Wait, are you in one of my leagues?)Honestly, I think the Rev offers nice value as a WR4 or so. I am told he is lasting into rounds 12 or 13 these days. S Jax and Holt won't catch everything.

(KFFL) Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams WR Torry Holt (knee) said he knee is "about 70, 80 percent" and it will likely bother him the entire season. "I'm just taking it light. I'm trying to really continue to work it and keep it strong and at the same time get some reps, which I'm able to do (in practice). That's going to help me ... as I get ready to go for the opener," Holt said.

I'm glad I kept Reggie Wayne over trading for Holt now.

:goodposting: And, I agree that he represents great value this year. Although he's been a good value for a few years now.

Great question KeysI think Bruce is just so under valued at this point it's not even funny. Drew Bennett(if he can stay healthy) would be able to pick up some of the slack and they could slide Dane Looker into the slot possibly. Also they have Randy McMichael at TE and he can really open up the middle of the field and give the WR that are healthy some better cushion. I would think Bulger would slide a notch or two however if Holt cannot go or is ineffective.

I am now in panic mode. It is never a good sign when they suggest he will not be healthy all year. I dropped him to 15th in my rankings.

Holt keeps goals high despite troublesome knee

By R.B. Fallstrom, AP Sports Writer

ST. LOUIS — Six months after knee surgery for torn cartilage and a little more than one week before the St. Louis Rams' season opener, Torry Holt is not close to full health.

Still, the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver feels good enough that he hasn't felt the need to revise his goal of another 1,300-yard season. To him it's just a matter of dealing with the accumulation of hits and the toll on his body over eight seasons.

"It's just one of those deals where I'm not recovering as quick as I used to," Holt said. "It feels good some days and some days it doesn't feel so good."

"I'm getting somewhat used to that, and I'm getting to the point where I can manage it pretty well."

It's not as if Holt, the fastest player to 10,000 yards in NFL history, is ready for the rocking chair. He has seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, and was the first player in NFL history with six of 1,300 in a row before last year when the knee problem hindered his effectiveness late in the season.

Still, he finished with an impressive 93 catches, second in the NFC, for 1,188 yards.

"I don't feel like I've lost too much explosiveness, I just haven't quite shown it yet," Holt said. "If I get into the week of the opener and things aren't looking good and I feel weak, then I'm concerned. Right now, I'm not concerned at all."

The Rams' pass-catching depth helps to ease his mind. Two of the team's biggest offseason acquisitions were tight end Randy McMichael, who has averaged 65 receptions the last three years, and wide receiver Drew Bennett.

"These guys have been stepping up and making plays for us," Holt said. "So I feel good about everything."

Holt underwent surgery on his right knee the third week of February, seemingly giving him plenty of time to recuperate. But he said the situation hasn't improved much, if at all, since the beginning of training camp when he estimated it was at 70 percent.

"I still feel a little pinch of pain in there at times depending on certain cuts," Holt said.

The Rams held Holt out of last week's preseason game at Oakland, a move that he said was a precaution. He said doctors have been optimistic about reduced swelling in the knee recently.

"I'm still going to have a little pain from time to time, but I think I can manage that," Holt said. "I don't know if it'll ever heal all the way, but I think it'll heal enough to allow me to go out and play."

Coach Scott Linehan has seen positive signs from one of the keys to the Rams' high-scoring offense.

"The last two days I've seen him more like the Torry Holt we've all grown accustomed to," Linehan said Monday. "It's becoming more and more encouraging every day."

- Who knows what this all means, but as a Holt owner, I'm definitely concerned. It seems like an older dude who isn't used to being injured.....struggling with residual pain during rehab. But....it could also be a sign of bigger problems with the knee.

 Plus I see Bennett's role getting a bump too. Maybe McMichael can help out as well. They brought him in too for a reason, no?

I wouldn't bury Holt yet - could be a great buying opportunity - interested to see how far he falls in my next draft - if he falls to 8-10th WR I would grab him.

:own3d: I am absolutely worried about him in the one league I have him, but in the same email update from Joe we saw a "good news" for Thomas Jones when he hasn't practiced at all and was running during practice (not practicing) and it seems like we are signing the death knoll to Holt when he has been practicing all pre-season and played in 2 pre-season games already. They kept him out of game 3, which I would as well. I personally wouldn't have let him play in the first 2 games either.Like I said, I am worried but I would be a lot more worried if he wasn't practicing at all.

Why is Holt's injury generally disregarded, while Portis is being treated as if he was the one that had off season knee surgery?
Because people  Holt...how many top 5 finishes has he had? Now you throw this info into the mix. No thank you. He is clearly on the decline ypc avg has continued to drop over last few years...IMO this is very telling of a WR on the decline and he is injured.

I got him as my WR3 with the 6th pick of Round 3 this weekend in a format that's WR friendly (1 RB, 3 WR, 1 UTIL). This was before the news really broke ... still probably would have taken him there was a clear drop at WR and no other RB's to consider. May have gone Gates but since Holt is practicing this smells to me as overblown. Most players are not 100% during the season and as long as this doesn't get worse I smell buy low potential.

I don't think it's panic time - downgrade time yes. If Portis is downgraded for experiencing soreness in his knee sans surgical procedure, why would Holt not be...?

This may be one of those deals where he plays and doesnt practice a ton during the season. I am getting the impression that the knee is still healing so maybe sometime near midseason he will be close to 100% and should be going off. In the preseason game I saw he looked really good to me, quick and precise.

 Ike Bruce is a great value/sleeper this year. Not a traditional sleeper in the sense of the word becausehe was a stud back in the day, but a sleeper none the less. :)
