Torry Holt (1 Viewer)

On paper, this isn't a terrible matchup. The Patriots ranked 14th in passing yards allowed but they give up nearly two TD passes per game (including seven in the last four). It stands to reason the Rams will have to throw more this week than last so in theory that should help Holt. On the flip side, Donnie Avery is emerging in a huge way and looks to be someone Bulger will throw to more - especially when he's looking for a big play. And Holt had a great matchup last week and was a bum.

So taking all that into consideration for those owners who haven't cut bait with Holt yet (and at this point nobody could be blamed if they had) are you giving any consideration to starting him given the matchup or is he buried on your bench until further notice?

I think Holt has an outside shot at 65/1 but I would start Avery over him. With Harrison out, the NE defensive backfield is weaker and the WR2 gets a bump IMHO.

At this stage of the game in a redraft I rank Holt in the WR 25-35 range at best.

He's currently benched for Bowe and Colston ... but if Jackson decides not to play or is slowed down due to his quad, he may be an excellent play.

You're a lot more generous than I am with that ranking. He's 50th among WRs in my PPR league. I like the matchup a lot this week but the guy has been an absolute dog. He's impossible to trust right now and I'm sick of hoping this is the week he finally looks like Torry Holt again instead of giving me the type of production I could get from someone like Jordy Nelson.

He'd probably stay on the bench until he clearly turns it around or for a very favorable home game.

I'm in a 16 team redraft league that starts 3 WRs, so WRs are thin to begin with - 68 WRs are currently rostered. And we have short benches, so I only have 4 WRs on my roster. I will consider starting Morgan over him, but only if Cotchery is definitely playing - if Cotchery doesn't play, I'll have to start Morgan for him and Holt stays in.

Unfortunately, I have started Holt every week except his bye week thus far... early on because of expectations and more recently due to a lack of better options. I do still think he will play better down the stretch, especially in his home games.

I've been starting Holt all year and have him plugged in for this weekend as well. Granted, I'm no longer expecting #1 WR production but I expect him to fill a #2 WR slot in our start 3 WR league. He's been pretty putrid but the Rams are getting it together. He has this game and the Arizona game to throw out a big game (100 yards + TD) or he's gone. I have a sinking feeling I've held on to him too long and playing him has hurt, but I'm convinced the Rams' O is about to permanently right the ship. (My league is total points so head-to-head and playoffs don't matter)

Juggling between him and Antonio Bryant. Likely leaning towards Bryant given that Galloway is a GTD, and the matchup is a little better.

Would love to rely on Holt, and have been hoping it will happen all year; but the hope is costing me games as he continues to contribute bupkis to my fantasy squad.

I'm sure the week I sit him he turns into Torry Holt again but we're eight weeks into the season and he's been awful. I think my patience is about used up.

But other than those two I agree there wasn't anybody with significantly higher upside which is why I decided to hold off on cutting him (and again I wanted to move up on my league's WW list). But given how he's ranked 50th in my league among WRs, there are plenty of options available I could pick up for a given week. Not to turn this into a WDIS, but Nate Washington is there, Morgan is there, Malcolm Floyd is there and Devery Henderson is there. I think all four of them have higher upsides than Holt this week.

As I posted in last week's thread, he has historically played much better at home than on the road. After this week, he has 5 of 8 games through week 16 at home. IMO there is still reason to think he has good upside down the stretch.I think it depends a bit on where your team stands. If you can afford to keep him while staying on track for the playoffs, you should hang on for a few more games IMO.

When you look at targets for those players Holt is getting more opportunities..Holt has 41 targets @56% Morgan has 26 targets @46% Henderson 30 targets @50% Avery 24 @66.7%.....I would agree that Avery has the most upside and I would trade hold for Avery......I would not drop Holt for any of the players you listed except Avery

I'm not going to - though I do think Morgan has an excellent chance to outperform Holt the rest of the season. I was referring to those WRs as having higher upsides this week. I've grabbed Washington and plan on starting him (as it turns out I might have to start Holt if Cotchery can't go - ugh), but I could easily see Morgan and Floyd also doing better and maybe Henderson too at least in terms of having a higher potential to score. I think Holt has become a week-to-week guy. The problem that I see, though, is that even if the matchup is good (and I believe this week's is a good matchup) he's impossible to trust given how bad he's been. I think we have reached the point in the season where what Holt has done in the past is completely meaningless. He isn't the same WR and Bulger isn't the same QB. So while it's certainly possible Holt could magically transform back into Torry Holt in the second half of the season, I'm not sure it's wise to expect that to happen given how he's given little indication through seven weeks that will happen.The point about his home/road splits is an excellent one. Here are the splits this season:Home: 13-192-1 (3 games)Away: 10-69-0 (3 games)That's a significant decline in production when Holt is on the road. That's something else to take into consideration given this week's game is at New England.

I agree with what you posted in that thread 100%.With that said, some feeling deep down has been telling me all week to start him, that this is his week to get it done. With the Rams looking like that have done a complete 180, I think Holt goes big this week. I bet he scores not once but twice with about 7-85.

I am not suggesting he is or will be the Torry Holt of old but I think down the stretch he could be a WR 20-25 making him him a decent start.

I can't find it in my heart to bench the guy. It's like I have to cut him in order to not start him. I do have Colston and Boldin, so I've been starting Holt over Camarillo and Walter as my WR2/3, but arguable both Walter and Camarillo have been better. That said, I am starting Holt again this week, over Boldin (I got screwed by Colston last week coming back from injury with a goose-egg.

Hoping he can break out and have a good game. I am in the boat where if he doesn't start producing, he may go on waivers. I think he has a good chance at finishing strong, however - the schedule is favorable.

I think I'm going to start Colston over Holt this week.

reasons

1) Holt on road struggles

2) NE will key to stop him in the passing game (always shut down other teams' best weapon)

3) NE can put pressure on QB and Bulger is well subject to being hit a lot

4) Colston could get me a zero, but he could get me 80 yards and a TD too. Can't see Holt getting that.
