Tracy Morgan in accident (1 Viewer)

Just heard Tracy Morgan got into a bad wreck and is in critical condition after a six car pile-up in New Jersey.

Slight brain fart, but at first I was thinking of Tracy Chapman and how ironic it was.

Hope he's ok as well.

(CNN) -- Actor Tracy Morgan is in critical condition after a six-vehicle accident in New Jersey early Saturday, authorities said.
The former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and "30 Rock" star was riding in a limo bus when the accident occurred in Mercer County, said Sgt. Gregory Williams of the New Jersey State Police.
The limo bus overturned at the New Jersey Turnpike in Robbinsville, he said.
"The limo bus is the only vehicle that overturned," Williams said. "Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that's preliminary at this time."

Williams said he does not believe alcohol played a role in the accident, but that is under investigation.
In addition to the bus, the wreck involved two tractor-trailers and an SUV, he said.
One person was killed and seven others hospitalized with injuries, authorities said. The fatality may have been another passenger in the limo bus, Williams said.
Peter Haigney, a spokesman for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, said four patients are being treated there.
Three are in critical condition and one is in fair condition, he said.
The hospital said that a man named Tracy Morgan was among those in critical condition, but citing privacy laws, declined to confirm it is the actor. State police confirmed his identity to CNN.
Morgan performed Friday night at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in Dover, Delaware, the venue said.

This sucks, guy came from nothing to get where he is and he's a bit weird which makes him even more entertaining. Hope he'll be ok.

That sucks. He's definitely a bit out there but seems like a genuinely nice guy. I hope he pulls through ok.

Driver of the tractor trailer that caused the accident hadn't slept in 24 hours and is charged with Death by Auto and four counts of Assault by Driving.

Morgan underwent surgery for a broken leg and was "more responsive" on Sunday. He also has a broken femur, nose and ribs. He is expected to remain in the hospital for several weeks, Kay said.

Damn, but I guess he's lucky. Hopefully he has a hot nurse. gurkle gurkle gurkle.

Tucker Carlson actually went on TV and said the following:

“I’m not trying to take anything away from the tragedy of this,” Carlson replied. “But 10 years in jail for falling asleep? It strikes me as very different from taking drugs, drinking. Has that ever happened? Has anybody ever actually gone to jail for falling asleep?”

“For falling asleep and causing a death?” Schwartz asked. “Absolutely.”

“But, I mean sometimes people — and I’m not defending anyone here,” Carlson continued. “I’m really struck by the idea that someone who falls asleep — which is something that everybody does every day, not necessarily considered an act of recklessness — does it unintentionally, nods off is a criminal.”
I am sure if it was one of Tucker's daughters he might feel a little differently.

How is falling asleep at the wheel not reckless? If you know you haven't slept in 24 hours, you shouldn't be driving. If you feel yourself nodding off, just pull over at a rest stop or something. Falling asleep at the wheel is absolutely reckless.

He was serious?

Appeared to be.

I can see this turning into an indictment of Walmart, forcing their employees to work long hours.

Tucker Carlson probably sees that coming and is already spinning up his pro-corporation angle. Either that or he doesn't understand manslaughter.

There's currently a law or regulation that the trucking companies are fighting that would tighten up the rules regarding how long a driver can drive consecutively, when they have to sleep etc.

As seems to be a regular occurrence with today's media, the story isn't really complete. It seems they are insulting the "proof" is in his log books but they never come out and say how they know he was awake for 24 hours.

Those log books aren't worth the paper they are written on. My guess is though that there is a GPS tracker on that truck. WalMart has been in several articles about how using telematics is helping them save fuel, etc. And it should be pretty easy to tell how often he stopped and for how long

Any people that live in NJ had any idea that the NJTP was known as the black dragon? Lived here all my life and this is the first I've heard it called that. Pretty badass name for a roadway. :)

Umm... I think you'll find it's endemic to the whole trucking industry, not just those who work for Walmart.

Somewhat joking, but how will they be able to tell if Tracy's head is back to "normal"?

Some are trying to crackdown but yeah it is an industry wide problem for sure.

Good point here.He will probably become a tax attorney and live out his remaining years driving a Prius and listening to classic rock.

I agree. I said I could see it turning into an indictment of Walmart. I don't control the media or public opinion.

Just for the record, most drunk/impaired/texting drivers did not "intentionally" kill anybody either.

How you getting down to Philly? I'm taking the black dragon.
:lmao: if any nj highway needs a scary name is the pulaski skyway.
its a skyway named after a pollock. Isn't that scary enough?

My friend a comedian driving home on I87 fell asleep after work a place in the Caskills and wrecked his van into another van filled with a family of 6. No one died but 4 of them including him were hospitalized for a few days (his van literally blew up).

He didn't even get a ticket. It was an accident. Accidents happen.

I think it is total BS he is charged.
No one should be driving an 18 wheeler if they haven't slept in 24 hours. That's insane.

So basically you are ok with people sleeping while driving?

Nah, bro, if you're extremely tired/sleeply, don't drive. It's that simply. Same as being drunk.

Not to mention its the truck drivers job. You know... to stay on the good damn road.

Can't believe anyone is defending the truck driver.

And, yeah, pretty sure that turnpike nickname is made up. I've certainly never heard it before.
