TRADE ADVICE (1 Viewer)

My league is an AL-only (no Yankees) 5x5 Rotisserie League. I'm currently in first place and have a solid lead in most offensive categories. However, after losing my only true closer (B.J. Ryan), I am last in saves and have been trying to deal for another closer.

I was just proposed the following trade by a guy who badly needs outfielders but has an abundance of relief pitching:

HE GIVES J.J. Putz, James Shields, and Jose Guillen IN EXCHANGE FOR Vernon Wells, Boof Bonser, and Rafael Betancourt.

I personally think he would get the better end of the deal right now. Do you guys agree? I would like to make a counteroffer, and I'm just trying to come up with something reasonable. Jose Guillen means nothing to me (I dropped him last week) and would like to replace him in the trade, although I'd be open to any other ideas. Perhaps Putz/Shields/Zumaya FOR Wells/Bonser/Betancourt? I don't know if he'd give up Zumaya though. Any other ideas? Thanks a lot.

IMO you would be getting ripped by dealing Vernon, etc. for Putz, etc. Wells is worth much more than Putz. Is this a keeper league? How is he doing in pitching categories? I ask this because it looks like he could use a SP upgrade in addition to a OF upgrade so I was thinking you could package one of your other OF's other than Sizemore/Wells such as Markakis (unless it's a keeper), Matthews, or Sosa along with Buehlre, Millwood, or Bonser for just Putz.

If this is a non-keeper league and he needs pitching (specifically starting pitching) and he obviously needs an OF I would personally try Matthews/Buehlre (because of the no hitter and the good lineup, etc, etc) for Putz.

No way I'd do the original offer.

Isn't Matthews and Burhlre for Putz still too much?

I'd offer Matthews for Putz straight up.

His OF is real bad right now, he should welcome Matthews with open arms. If not, tell him you are fine in 1st place and tell him to make a reasonable counter (not including Wells).

How far back are you in Saves from gaining some extra points? Can Soria hold keep you close until Mid May, and Dotel is no gimme to be strong then either.

Thanks for the responses. I agree with everything you guys said. It is a keep-5 league, so I can't really justify parting with Wells for a closer, considering that Wells will be a cornerstone of the offense for years to come and closers are so volatile year-to-year. I went ahead and proposed Matthews and Bonser for Putz. I also think I'd be willing to give Matthews and Buerhle for Putz. I have a lot of contributors in runs and stolen bases so I see Matthews as completely expendable. However, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't take Matthews for a closer straight up.
