Trade Advice (1 Viewer)

@rascal - I love this deal. Kinsler has always hit when healthy and he has had some ridiculously hot summer tears. Add in that .236 BABIP and this guy has some hits coming to correct his AVG. Morneau is one of those guys with too many question marks to hold at his current value. It seems like people are trying to hit on his turnaround, but his upside just isn't big enough anymore with the new stadium and the lineup around him.
So you think Kinsler will out hit Morneau rest of the way?

Yes.

11-team Roto league: R, HR, RBI, SB, OBP; W, S, K, ERA, WHIP

I give: Starlin Castro and Gavin Floyd

I get: Jose Reyes

The other owner already has McCutchen, BJ Upton, Wright, and Zobrist for steals, so Reyes is expendable. Hitting in the 3rd spot will give Castro more RBI opportunities than Reyes, but since Reyes' steals are more valuable I added in Floyd. His starters are Halladay, Cahill, Brett Anderson, Beckett, Lilly ... hoping that the other owner expects Cahill and Beckett to regress and that Lilly will continue sucking, so Floyd provides some depth there as well as a chance at more Ws assuming the Sox offense provides more support than the A's.

I have no speed outside of Choo (thanks Alex Rios) and Castro is in my Util spot. Haren, Scherzer, Shields, Billingsley, Gallardo/Norris/Floyd are my starters.

I don't think the trade is unfair, but I guess it depends largely on the uncertainty around Reyes' situation (i.e. how a potential trade affects performance), Castro's short history, and Floyd's general blandness. Just wanted to hear an opinion or two. Our league only has 3 bench spots, so it's been hard to structure trades since no teams really have depth...

@CBoys - You probably just want to pick someone up and wait it out unless you hear that he that Wright will be out for much longer. I would like the idea of aquiring a cheap steals guy, but Figgins may not be as good at that role anymore. He's only 7-12 this year. I like both Sherzer and Gonzalez. How are you doing in each cat? If you really don't need the ERA/WHIP, you could do the deal for Youk.
Thanks for some feedback.Catagories:

BA - 2nd

HR - 8th

RBI - 3rd

R - 7th

SB - 9th

K - 2nd

ERA - 1st

WHIP - 1st

W - 1st

S - 3rd

I like both Scherzer and Gonzalez too. Obviously my pitching is what currently has me in first place overall, and I am not real excited about the prospects of breaking it up in any way, but if I fall much further in hitting categories...bye bye first place.

Regarding Figgins....the only reason I mention him is because I know I could get him in trade at a reasonably low cost and he could play 3B during the wait for Wright. Most of the cheap speed guys out there are OF, and I am already crowded there.

If you can get Figgins for next to free, I would at least consider it, but thats not my plan A if I were you. Your pitching is stacked at you should be making a decision on all of those guys right now whether you should sell high or if you think they're legit. I happen to love your staff. With that said, I think I would actually do the Youk trade because I don't think you need either Sherzer or Gio to finish top 2 or 3 in WHIP/ERA. In fact, even with their high upside, those guys are sometimes risky guys to own on a staff that doesn't need to take any chances.

You are probably in a pack in several offensive cats just looking at your rankings and Youk can help you pickup those points. You don't need to take a shot at Wright's return when you are in 1st.

I just did this deal in a 14 team H2H 7x5 league.I gave PeraltaI got HellicksonWhat do you think?
Like your side especially if you have good depth and your league has at least a few bench spots. Upside is way higher and if you deploy him correctly, he can really help you across 4 cats.

@INRI .... Pretty fair deal, but I would do it as well. Sometimes you have to pay for steals and in this case, you're giving a guy who's value has been mostly BA driven. Reyes seems headed for a big year and you will need someone like him if you plan on making up any ground in steals.

So I was just offered Kinsler and Valverde for Morneau and Guerrier (who I was about to drop for Jensen). Earlier he wanted Morneau for Kinsler straight up, but I told him I wanted Papelbon (he also has Wilson). Instead he offered Valverde. Coincidently, this owner just picked up Koji Uehara dropping Justin Smoak.

Looks like the Reyes owner won't accept this  Can't blame him I guess since Castro is heavily reliant on that AVGSadly, I'm not capable of making a decision on my own....I was offered Billy Butler for Gavin Floyd. This is a good trade for me, right? I know nothing about Butler, just saw his stats - HR numbers dipped a bit last season (and concurrently RBIs), not sure if he'll even reach 20 in 2011, but his strikeout rate really improved last year and he's walking a ton more this year. His run/RBI numbers in April were low despite hitting well with Gordon and Francoeur overperforming around him...that doesn't make sense to me, and since those two have come back down to earth, it doesn't seem to bode well for the future. Maybe Hosmer will help?Since we only have 3 bench spots, there are guys like Homer Bailey, Madison Bumgarner, Colby Lewis, and Scott Baker available on waivers...Floyd is probably on par with those guys, right?

Yes, trade for Butler. I like Floyd just fine but you have plenty of starters and Floyd is at times borderline WW material.

Keeper League - Offered Ryan Howard, Dan Uggla and Carlos Santana for Hosmer, Moustakas, and Kinsler

What do you think? I offered it two weeks ago and have heard nothing. Bumped it this morning.

It depends on the specific breakdown of your league, but I'd imagine an offer like this would at least get a response in almost any format.

Who do you slot in as catcher?
Russel Martin - It's a shallow league. 10 teams...plenty of catchers out there.

3 Year averages has Uggla 75 points higher than Kinsler. Is Hosmer worth more than Howard? Is Moustakas worth more than Santana. I think that's a more than a fair offer.

Just traded Bloomquist and Soria for Hosmer. Not sure exactly why the other guy offered Hosmer up for so little. I can pick up Bailey from the DL so shouldnt lose too much in the Save category.

I've been offered Nelson Cruz for Bj Upton?

I should jump on this right?

I understand Cruz is an injury risk but in this case I believe it's worth it.

Opinions?

pretty sure this is a no brainer

was offered polanco for des. jennings.

will only be able to prolly keep jennings (if he's balling) next year only. already have kinsler and arod at 2b/3b.

do it now
The other owner is now asking about Matt Joyce instead of Upton. This is still a deal I should do right? Joyce has the same numbers as Upton but his avg is about 100 points better.Help out a newbie.

Not a big Cruz fan, but I believe I would rank them Upton>Cruz>Joyce depending on where you stand in BA and steals.

So I accepted the trade but it won't be effective till Thursday. Today, the other owner sends me this:

I know that I made the offer but I would really like to resend it. I have been trying to get ahold of XXXX (the commish), but he is out of the country on vacation. I really made a bad decision and am giving up way more than what I am getting. Since I can't get ahold of XXXX, would you be willing to undo the trade (or trade back)? I would absolutely be willing to give you Fuentes or Francisco in the trade back to you. So you get help with saves that you need.

Thoughts? No way would I do that trade for Fuentes or Francisco. He originally offered me Kinsler for Morneau straight up, but I told him I wanted Papelbon. Next day he sends me this offer which I accept.

Well the trade is DONE - both parties agreed and sent it to the commissioner.......BUT give some thought to the league type, participants and your history in it.....IOW if it is for $$$ money and you have a good shot to cash then I would not cave.....if it was a yahoo/cbs league for very little $ and among a group of friends I might let him out of that trade as long as the substituted trade was still in your favor.

BTW WTH is a commissioner doing out of the country without giving the keys to an assistant so things like this don't sit there for weeks?

The commissioner left Sunday and will be back on Friday. The delay in the trade isn't due to him...it's some yahoo thing I think. He left the keys to an assistant, but the assistant has already told me he doesn't want to get involved in this and will wait for the commish to return. The league is for money ($50 entry with 12 teams) and I'm currently in first place.

It is a 12 team H2H points ESPN 4 player keeper league. RIght now my team is 4-3.

Recently got offered: Felix Hernandez and Elvis Andrus for Hanley Ramirez and Zach Britton.

My keepers right now are Hanley, Braun, Kershaw and McCutchen. Do I make this trade? I am weighing the risks of keeping Hanley and trying to ride out the slump against the value I am getting for him now. Does Hanley rebound to have a decent season this year and in the future or has his work ethic caught up? I wouldn't make this trade if I could be sure Hanley would go back to a .300 25 hr player but I am unsure of him. The league is pitcher heavy with Felix scoring something like 650 to Hanley's 550 last year but it is relative just because a pitcher like Cain scored 550 and a replacement level batter would score 400-450.

Do I do this for this year and have my keepers as Felix, Braun, McCutchen, Kershaw or ride out the storm with Hanley because he is too valuable to trade in a 4 player keeper.

i dont like it. id stay put

With Pablo coming back in 3 weeks or so I need to make some moves. I hate dropping closers, but the early nominees are Melancon or Gregg. I have trade material in both Kinsler and Phillips.

Lowrie is a good UTL player to keep on my bench so I'm not sure dropping him is a good idea despite his recent struggles. I feel my team is good, but I have some positions I need to upgrade: 3OF (Abreu) SS (Jeter) or SP (I think outside of Jimenez my SPs have mostly overachieved).

General thoughts on where I need to improve my team, possible player combinations for trade and what I should expect in return?

12 team h2h league with yahoo scoring. My team:

C: JP Arencibia

1B: Miguel Cabrera

2B: Brandon Phillips

SS: Derek Jeter

3B: Jed Lowrie

UTL: Mark Teixeira, Ian Kinsler

An owner has expressed interest in Kinsler. His initial offer is laughable (Kurt Suzuki and Houston Street).

his team:

C: Napoli

1B: Zobrist

2B: Hill

SS: Drew

3B: Aviles

OF: Braun, Rasmus, Francouer

UT: Suzuki, Reynolds

BN: Cuddyer

SP: Lester, Myers, Marcum, Masterson, Edwin Jackson, Sabathia, Grienke

RP: Street, Putz, Walden, Gregerson

DL: Alvarez, Uribe, Lidge

With Ubaldo sucking it up I would like to get a 1B or 2A pitcher, but I think Kinsler is more valuable than any of his pitchers. Thoughts?

I was thinking of offering: Kinsler, Garza, and Jeter for S Drew, Grienke, and Rasmus.

Not sure what I would do with Abreu. Maybe package him with a closer later.

DO it!

12 team H2H I give up Youk, Ogando and Gardner and get A. Gonzalez. I'll be replacing Youk with Gonzalez at CI and I am pretty deep at OF with Bruce, Rasmus, Crawford, Crisp (we start 3) so Gardner hasn't seen the field since week 2. I love the way Ogando has been pitching and he's legit, but he's never thrown this many innings and I'm wondering if he can make it thru a full 180 plus. As of right now I have the #1 pitching staff and have only thrown Ogando 5 of his 11 starts so far. While part of me says not to make any moves since I am in first, but this just seems like a no brainer to me to get Gonzalez to go along with Fielder and Bruce. Trying to get a little confirmation from you guys before this goes thru tomorrow. Thanks!

GO for it!The key for your side is not the players in the deal - it's the players in your lineup and while you might be reducing your pitching options slightly, you definitely IMPROVE your lineup

It seems you're really just giving up Youk to get Adrian. Seems like a no brainer.
Thanks for the reply guys...Dr. I'm not sure it's as clear cut as that. Ogando is the real deal. Not many pitchers today can consistently bust guys on the knuckles at 95. He has a great offense around him so he's capable at getting a win every time he takes the mound. Losing him will certainly hurt a bit. With that said, I do not think this guy can make it 180 plus innings. While listening to the MLB channel I recall them saying that he has never thrown over 75 innings in his career (including the Dominican). But damn, the guy is over 80 innings right now and he seems to be getting stronger. Well either way, I'd love to have Gonzalez in my lineup so I'm just waiting to hear back from the guy tonight. When we were talking last night it seemed like it would be a go. I'm also not banking on Youk making it a full season at 3B.

eh...basically that trade is Holliday for Bruce (unless Ortiz is 1B eligible in your league). You need a 1B more than Bruce IMO.

I want to make a trade bad but no one in my league pays for pitching anymore. We have FA pick up limits to avoid streaming but I still can sell my pitchers for ####.

I'm in first place in a H2H 5x5 league by 16 games.

I'm really just bored and was wondering if Fin or any other knowledgable FBGs could suggest where to improve to make sure My offense stays ok.

C - Napoli

1B - Miggy

2B - Cano

3B - Reynolds

SS - Peralta (Furcal on DL)

MI - Freddy Sanchez (WW is thin here)

CI - Moreland

OF - Stanton, Granderson, Cargo, Rajai

U - Andres Torres, John Jay

Lot of holes to be filled? I'm worried about Cargo and tried to package him and Nolasco or Shields for Braun and the owner didn't even bite on that.

Was thinking of making a play for Hamilton perhaps?

Here's my strength, my pitching staff

Sabathia, Hanson, Price, Shields, Nolasco, Peavy, James Mcdonald and I grabbed Lackey Saturday as a wait and see type.

I know it's hard to suggest something without knowing the dynamics of the league but I was just offered Billy Butler for friggin Hanson by a pretty knowledgable GM. So I'm lost. Which pitcher for the first 5 listed above would you let go for a bat and which position would you try to beef up?

Feel free to not respond at all, just trying to have a little discussion.

Don't mess with it. I'm not familiar with that setup, but maybe look for Trumbo or Lawrie for CI/MI help. Especially since you are forced to start Reynolds at 3B.

Just got offered Reyes & Marcum for Kershaw & Castro in a H2H pts keeper league. We can only keep 5 players for 3 yrs so only Reyes & Kershaw are keeper eligible IMO.

Reyes is on fire and has scored 70 more pts than Castro. Marcum & Kershaw are closer in pts. Should I counteroffer for Shields instead. Hes less injury prone.

PS Wins are worth 12 pts in this league. And Reyes is the #10 overall hitter.

Reginals I agree with rascal - 3B is the spot you need to fix....Reynolds aside from the occasional HR will singlehandidly kill your BAvgAnd btw your pitching staff is not as good as you think it is - Peavy headed for DL and Nolasco has been Terrible last few times out....if James Shields can't regain earlier form you will have problems. NO way you should even think about trading Hanson for Butler - Billy is a better real life hitter but for your league all you get is nice BAvg - no power with it

better side of this deal?

Nelson Cruz/Domonic Brown/Roy Halladay

for

Carlos Gonzalez/Mike Stanton/John Lackey

H2H, 5x5

I'm about to offer this to a guy - Cruz can be as good as Cargo. Stanton is clearly better than Brown for now and it would give me a pitching staff of

Sabathia/Halladay/Price/Hanson/Shields/James McDonald
