TRADE THREAD- President Trump signs Phase One of China agreement, China promises to double its purchases in 2020 (1 Viewer)

Maybe check the Hillary for president thread, I was second only to Tim in support.  Easy to see where you stand on any thing good for America or our farmers.
I didn't realize this was a squis alias    I guess it could be a TGunz alias.  Those were the three amigos in that thread.

Where do I stand on our farmers?  Keep in mind both my BIL and FIL are farmers here in Florida.  Asking you to provide information isn't some sort of cryptic code where I express my pleasure/displeasure.  It's asking you to provide information.  So do you have links to any of the details or not?

Also, I appreciate the "Hillary supporter" lecturing people on what's "good for America"....that shtick isn't lost on me.  I look forward to your next non-answer if you answer at all.

He asked you to except lain what was good and instead you respond with this?
Read the post he said no one believes I am a Hillary supporter, I responded to that comment.  I just stated what my father in law told me.  Tough day for the Trump haters.  I sure you all will say the one percent gain in the Dow today is not real.

I am proud to be an American, some people in this thread would complain if they won a million dollars, oh well today was a great day for our country as we move forward on the trade wars, I guess the haters can never be positive.  I hope they find peace and I wish you well sho nuff.

I believe that thread was nuked by the powers that be so your allegation cannot be verified. It is however still possible to look at your more recent body of work to see if that fits with what you allege.
No....it's still here, just closed.  We should probably define what he means by "second to Tim" though....those results aren't going well.

That was one part of his post...for which you then commented about how he felt about farmers as well.

What was tough about it for people that don’t like him?  Why does the Dow matter now and not as it was tosingbfot Obama? Or unemployment?

Ir because we have some vague there might be a deal...is it actually even a deal or another...well we agreed to talk more?  Because there supposedly was a deal with NK only there isnt...and there was supposedly a deal with the EU...only there isn’t.

As for the trade wars...they were unnecessary and otbstill remains to be seen of anything actually positive will come and outweigh the negative they created.

Great for the auto workers in Mexico (until they too get replaced by industrial robots). Enjoy your more expensive cars
If robots are making new autos (here or in Mexico), and the price of new cars goes up, then wouldn't that lead to more people keeping their cars longer instead of purchasing new cars? Would that lead to more jobs for auto mechanics, body repair shops, detail shops, and maybe accessory shops? :silverlining:

Please remember that President Trumps does have the power to declare that the US is no longer a party to NAFTA. But it wouldn't really mean squat as Congress would have to amend/rescind the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act.

That's where all the policies (tariff rates, enviro rules/agreements, etc) for trade with Canada and Mexico were codified into US law.

Can someone please share the details of what products are newly opened to Mexico? I've heard this is a huge deal for farmers and great for the US but cannot find any details.

I'm hearing some of the details finally.

It says that auto workers in the US and Mexico must be paid the same- eventually. I'm not hearing a timeline on this though. Tariffs remain at zero between the two sides on most products, so in that aspect it leaves NAFTA unchanged. An economist on the radio just said that the changes are very small and mostly for show, but beneficial.
Quelle surprise

That’s because there are very few details.
Thanks, but obviously there are some important details out if it's already positively impacting farmers. Plus I saw something on the news about it being a "YUGE win" so it sounds like it's pretty great for America.

Maybe goper or weebs will be around and can fill us in.

What is known so far is that Trump wants minimum $16 an hour for workers in auto plants.  He wants 75% of the parts to be created between US and Mexico.  I didn't even know that the farmers were part of this deal until @Gopher State brought them up.  There are zero details (as of this post) posted anywhere about this, but he talked to his Father-in-Law who's assured him it's an awesome deal and Trump is really coming through for them.  All I can tell you about it is not a single pro farming group (as of this post) has come out guns ablazing with support.  Everyone seems to be measured and in "wait and see" mode.

You should look into that and report back

I did. My findings are below.

That is a question, not a finding. HTH

The federal government will spend up to $1.2 billion to buy products from farmers hurt by the retaliatory tariffs from China and other countries, and will provide almost $5 billion in payments to farmers, the U.S. Department of Agriculture says https://abcn.ws/2PHAe2s

This all depends on the results of these trade wars.  So you can't say this...yet.  (Very interested in the details on this new one).

At the least this all came about during the best time to wage these - US economy is smokin' and others are not nearly where we are at present.

Just think - we can have a National Popcorn Day like every Sunday this year!

What?  Why can’t I say it remains to be seen?  Pretty sure I’m says ng we need to see...but we don’t have to wait to say it wasn’t necessary to start the trade war to even get to here.

The commodity markets were down today so a big deal for farmers?....really more of a nothingburger.

I think getting any deal at all done would be a huge deal for farmers, since Mexico buys a ton of some specific products like corn and retaliatory tariffs would be a nightmare.

Sure, so compared to Trump’s tariffs it’s an improvement. But compared to NAFTA?

NAFTA already had virtually no tariffs, so how can this new deal be an improvement for farmers? Perhaps it is but I sure wish somebody would explain it.

And let me also add, farmers have been getting screwed over for years.  I don’t blame them for wanting any change at all, even a crazy change. Family farm income has been awful.

Do you have an answer? Do you disagree with the principle?
Do you care to address the question?

Back up what you in your second post alleged was a finding?

Or is it all Unicorns with you on this topic?

There should be data. It's not as if auto workers haven't been replaced by robots in the US before.

Do the math, show your work

Rising wages means higher cost of production.  Higher cost of production means more expensive goods.  I don’t understand why this is controversial.
It's not controversial. But, as I stated before, if prices get too high, then people will hold on to their cars longer. Better to spend $1000 on repairs and upgrades than to spend $30k on a new car. This will lead to other jobs. (and you don't ship your car to Mexico for a new muffler) Supply and demand will force automakers to adjust prices or go out of business.

I was pointing out a silver lining to the concern. That's all.

I think they’ll probably just buy a used car.
