Trades with teams out of the Fantasy Football playoffs (1 Viewer)

Whats your take on teams that are mathematically out of the playoff race, making trades with teams that are in it. I dont see the incentive, only for one team.

I think there should be a trade deadline...don't think our commish in one league agrees.

If it's dynasty or keeper, then of course there is value and rationale. If not, then yes, I would add a rule preventing trades once out of contention - unless you have other incentives, like weekly high score, etc.

In redrafts, I agree that there is no incentive to trade once a team is mathmatically elimated, but in a dynasty and keeper leagues, there is always incentive for trading.

My big redraft has a trade deadline of kickoff week 10 and if you are eliminated before that you are NOT allowed to trade.

I definitely see both sides. I've seen players practically given away before, so that needs to be avoided at all costs.

But here was my argument this year for an eliminated team being able to trade. The last place team in my division of four teams was eliminated prior to week 9. I still have a great interest in him winning weeks 10-13. In week 10 he was playing a good team and weeks 11-13 are division games, one against me. I obviously want him to field the best team possible to beat those other teams as I think I can handle him either way, it's worth the risk to me.

Why can't he trade to get better then if the trade is fair? I would have easily been able to make a deal with him that helped both teams (he had deep RBs and horrible WRs), but my plead was shot down.

As a general rule, no trades for teams out of the playoffs

Another thing to consider is if there are other things to win in a $ league. For instance, I have a dynasty that gives out decent $ to the overall points leader. Through some really bad luck this year the #2 scorer happens to be 2-8 and out of the playoffs, but right there for the points $.

Any deadlines or restrictions should apply to everyone equally in a dynasty or keeper league. In other words, you can't allow trading for only the teams in the playoffs. That's not fair to the other dynasty teams in the league trying to position themseleves to be successful in the future. The best thing to do is have a trading deadline that applies to all teams, usually after week 10 or 11.

In most of my leagues, we have a week 11 cut off on trades.

Also, it really depends on the type of league whether trades should be completed between teams in or on the verge of making the playoffs and those likely not going to the post-season.

In dynasties and keepers, I can see it feasable to work on improving for next season...in redrafts, not so much.

Trade deadline 4 weeks prior to playoffs with 6/12 teams making it usually means we don't have this issue.

But I'd be for a prohibition if a redraft.

It has to be fair for all parties. If you tell teams out of it in keeper or dynasty no trades b/c they cant win this year you're being an #######

Telling eliminated teams that they can't trade is almost as dumb as telling them they can't make WW pick ups.

One of my money leagues handles this very well as it creates an incentive for every team to be competitive every week

#1. Loser fees - An extra $10 a week if you lose. This keeps teams competitive throughout the year regardless of their standing.

#2. Top Score of each week pays $25.00

#3. Pay for regular season total points. It's never happened, but we've been close a couple of times to a team missing the playoffs, but being one of the top 2 scoring teams in the league, both of which get paid. Two times a team has finished 3rd overall in points, but failed to miss the playoffs.

I run several leagues and we have never had anything shady go down. However, I just joined this one league where some inactive teams at the bottom of the standings have all of a sudden made less than fair trades with their buddies. Not much I can do about it other than not to be in the league next year. lesson learned.

I guess there is no incentive for those players to even bother submitting a lineup each week, either.

Obviously keeper and dynasty leagues should allow trades. Though if you're worried about firesales, you could always add rules so everyone knows a team is looking to firesale and so everyone has a fair shot.

In redrafts, I disagree with the "there's no incentive". I try to win every game I play, even if I'm out of the playoffs. I'd trade up to the final week if it improved my chance to win that week.

However, there's so many unethical people out there who will do anything to win that I think a league is better off restricting the trading by teams out of the playoffs, just to avoid the problems caused by them.

Why do I have a feeling the people in this thread that support last place teams being able to make trades have benefited from such trades in the past.

With that said, the best thing to do is have a trade deadline around week 11 and have pay outs to high point totals weeks 10-13. This will entice low record teams into staying competitive.
