Training Camp Injury Report (1 Viewer)

The San Diego Chargers announced WR Eric Parker (toe) underwent successful surgery to repair a cracked sesamoid bone near his right big toe. He is expected to miss up to 10 weeks.

Travis Henry suffered a pulled leg muscle in practice last week, but is expected to resume live work soon.Impact: Henry hasn't played in 16 games since 2002 and is far from a sure bet to stay healthy.

The San Diego Chargers announced WR Eric Parker (toe) underwent successful surgery to repair a cracked sesamoid bone near his right big toe. He is expected to miss up to 10 weeks.
Ray Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego WR Craig Davis is the likely replacement for injured WR Eric Parker (toe).

Donte' Stallworth, Chad Jackson, and Troy Brown were in uniform as the Patriots broke for practice Sunday.

The trio had previously been on camp/PUP and hadn't worked at all to this point. Stallworth's injury was undisclosed, but he saw some action as the first-team X, where Jabar Gaffney has been playing. Jackson and Brown are coming off knee surgeries. David Thomas (foot, PUP) was not on the field.

Greg Jennings is struggling with a hip flexor at Packers camp.

Jennings missed some OTA work due to a similar problem, and Packers coach Mike McCarthy says the split end has been sore for the past week. Considering his history of nagging injuries, Jennings is worth monitoring.

Alge Crumpler is expected to miss the next week of Falcons training camp due to pain in his right knee.

He also could miss the team's exhibition opener. Crumpler had his knee scoped in the offseason, so this is becoming a major concern.

Jets injuries so far are Eric Smith S, reported as a knee injury at Jets message biards, and he was held out of a practice game on Sunday, where Tom Rock of Newsday reported he was seen with a wtrap on his right leg.

Justin Miller CB/KR had a hamstring in that Sunday practice game, got iced and did not return.

The Jets won't discuss injuries, but I think these two will cost at least a couple of weeks for each player, maybe longer.

Reported by someone at Saints practice that LT Jamaal Brown was carted off the field with a knee injury. Should be a injury report from the team soon.

BROWN GOES DOWN

According to media reports out of New Orleans, Saints left tackle Jamaal Brown suffered what could turn out to be a serious knee injury on Tuesday.

Brown was taken off of the field on a cart after being hurt during blocking drills.

Zach Strief, a seventh-round draft pick in 2006, is listed as the primary backup to Brown at left tackle. We suppose it's also possible that right tackles Jon Stinchcomb or Rob Pettiti could be moved to the left side, if Brown is out for the year.

An intriguing possibility would be for the Saints to attempt to lure Willie Roaf out of retirement. Roaf was a first-round pick, and a perennial Pro Bowler, in New Orleans before being traded to Kansas City.

Anyone know what the word on Scheffler is?
Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (foot) returned to practice, but head coach Mike Shanahan said "he’s still a ways away."Scheffler had off-season surgery to repair a broken foot. He lost fantasy value when the Broncos added Daniel Graham and is now a risky play a TE2 until he gets into preseason action.

WR Ernest Wilford "did not suffer a serious knee injury" in camp on Tuesday.

The Jags did not announce when Wilford would return or the severity of the injury. Initial reports called the injury serious and Wilford appeared to be "writhing" in pain. He is currently listed as a starting wide receiver on the Jaguars depth chart.

Chad Johnson suffered a sprained ankle during Monday morning's practice session and did not participate in the Bengals' evening practice.

It's not considered a severe injury, and Johnson's most likely day-to-day.

Aug 7 2007 10:57AM Jeff Legwold, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler (foot) could return to practice Tuesday, Aug. 7. Fantasy Impact: Scheffler's stock fell some after breaking his foot, but he is returning to health and could do well his sophomore season.

No Seahawks panic over Pro Bowler Walter Jones missing 5th straight day

By GREGG BELL - AP Sports Writer

2007-08-07 17:23

KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) -Left tackle Walter Jones missed a fifth consecutive day of Seahawks practice because of a sore shoulder - and Seattle coach Mike Holmgren wants the counting to end there about the perennial Pro Bowler and key to the Seahawks' remade offensive line.

``We are not going turn this into one of these 'Diary: Day Six. Day Seven. Day Eight,' are we? He's going to be fine. He's fine,'' Seattle's coach said Tuesday, after Jones spent the morning in the training room before walking out to watch the last 15 minutes of practice.

``He could have practiced today. But honestly, I just want him ready to play in the first ballgame.''

The 33-year-old Jones, whose seven Pro Bowls are tied with Steve Largent for second in Seattle history behind Cortez Kennedy's eight, said the shoulder was a little sore but getting better.

Jones said he got injured ``just banging'' with fellow linemen in practice last week. He thinks he will probably be able to practice late this week and added that he would be able play this weekend if it was a regular season game.

But since Sunday is simply the exhibition opener at San Diego, he likely will watch - though Holmgren wouldn't say so yet.

``I mean, he could play. He's in good shape. He's honest about how he feels. I really just want him ready to play in the first ballgame,'' Holmgren said.

Jones is one of only two starting linemen left from Seattle's Super Bowl season of 2005. The other is Sean Locklear. The usual right tackle has been taking Jones' place on the left side this week. Tom Ashworth, a former Super Bowl starter for New England, has been the first-team right tackle but will go back to reserve duty when Jones returns.

``I'm just taking it real slow,'' Holmgren said. ``He's going to be one of our guys we are going to need to play all season and play well. So I'm probably being a little bit nice to him.''

Although he would appear to have little to gain from playing in any of the four preseason games, Jones wants to.

``There's always a reason to play,'' he said. ``You want to perform. You still want to go out there and bang with the guys you practice with everyday, against other guys. We don't get the luxury of scrimmaging against other teams like some teams do.''

Jones isn't the only star Holmgren will be preserving this month.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said Saturday that doctors want him to be greatly limited during preseason games, seven months after surgery on his non-throwing shoulder - though Hasselbeck added ``hopefully we can push the envelope on that a little bit.''

And Holmgren said Shaun Alexander will play sparingly, as usual, before Seattle opens the regular season against Tampa Bay on Sept. 9.

This month, the 2005 NFL MVP turns 30 - the age at which running backs' statistics historically begin a steady decline.

``Is he going to be 30? I had no idea how old Shaun was,'' Holmgren said. ``Regardless, we would practice him the same way. He's not going to play much in the preseason and he's going to get ready to go - like all of our core guys, the guys we are counting on and that have a little experience.

When asked if this might be the season perennial backup Maurice Morris begins to get some of Alexander's workload during the regular season, Holmgren shook his head.

``If Shaun's healthy, we'll do it the way we've always done,'' he said. ``There will probably be no change there.''

Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said RB Brian Calhoun (undisclosed) will not play in the team's first preseason game.

Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) will likely not play in the team's first preseason game.

Clinton Portis will visit Dr. James Andrews in Nashville.

The Redskins say they believe the knee is getting better, but they've been saying that Portis is "days from returning" for two weeks now. A visit to Dr. Andrews is always reason for concern.

LinkIt doesn't seem to be as big a deal. He's seen Dr. Andrews before. This article seems to be blowing it off a bit.

However, as an owner of Portis and Betts, with keeper deadline looming, I'm getting a little nervous.

Bengals RB Kenny Irons was carted off the field after sustaining a leg injury.

Irons was taken to the locker room in the second quarter after hurting his left knee and ankle. The severity of the injury is not known at this time, but having a cart involved means it could be serious.

alcons QB D.J. Shockley will miss the season after tearing his ACL in the Falcons' preseason game Saturday.

And a bad QB situation turns to dreadful. Shockley, a hometown hero from UGA who was battling Chris Redman for the backup job, damaged his MCL and must wait for the swelling to subside before having surgery. Shockley wasn't expected to play much this year, but was the only QB on Atlanta's roster with any promise. Casey Bramlet moves up into the third-string role.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports an MRI taken Sunday revealed that Jason Campbell's knee injury is only a bruise, as expected.

Campbell will be day-to-day. He might only miss a couple of practices.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Redskins SLB Marcus Washington (disclosated elbow) is expected to miss only two weeks.

On that timetable, he should be available for the opener. Washington will probably be replaced by Khary Campbell for the rest of the preseason.

Priest Holmes did not receive clearance to practice Sunday.

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards says team doctors did clear him, but that Holmes "isn't ready." "He’s probably 75-80% right now probably," Edwards continued. The Chiefs have openly discussed keeping Holmes on PUP for the first six weeks.

Travis Henry's MRI revealed no structural damage to his knee.

Henry only has a knee sprain, but that's usually a multiple-week injury. He's still worth monitoring closely. Mike Bell should start the Broncos' final two preseason games and possibly split work with Cecil Sapp.

Ben Troupe has missed about two weeks of camp with a foot injury.

He's likely behind Bo Scaife in their battle to be the Titans' top receiving tight end. Troupe missed the last few games of 2006 with a broken ankle.

Plaxico Burress has been doing light jogging on the side at Giants camp.

Burress, who has a sprained ankle, hasn't practiced in weeks. One Giants player joked that Burress has been milking the injury to get out of work. Plax says "everybody's going to shut up and get in line" when he returns.
