Travdogg's pre-combine mock draft (1 Viewer)

I think replacing Howell with Mariota is a tell that WAS will select Daniels, who has a similar skillset, at #2.
I keep seeing this, and I keep thinking this is way off base.
Agreed. I don't think Mariota is a tell in any way. If they'd signed Tyler Huntley maybe.

I think all these teams dumping young QBs for peanuts are dumb though. If you are worried about your rookie QB not being able to outperform the incumbent who you have decided to replace, then that's a bad sign I think. If teams are worried about the locker room being split, then that probably means the team (players anyway) believes in the incumbent and maybe QB isn't the real problem.

Definitely wouldn't be the first or last time I'm wrong about something in FF, but I'd be interested to hear why it's way off base? Is it because you don't think they they share similar skillsets? Or because you don't think two QBs with similar running ability are necessary in an RPO offense, for example. Tyler Huntley backing up Lamar Jackson was kinda my point. By the way Travdogg, thanks for this most excellent thread and all the good work you do on this board.

Mariota running:

If anything Maye's running ability is more similar to Mariota's. Daniels runs way more effectively.

I'm expecting the commanders to take Maye unless Minnesota throws a cannot refuse offer at them.

This class is going to be a huge disappointment...A lot of potential frauds decided not to run at the combine. Only Harold Fannin Jr. decided to do everything out of the RB/WR/TE group that I was anticipating :|

A lot of potential all pros also chose not to participate in the underwear Olympics. There isn't much incentive to participate in combine drills.

They ought to invite a lot of smaller school guys and guys that are under the radar. That's who the combine helps. Stop trying to convince future multi-millionaires it's a good thing to get dinged for several million due to a bad forty time.

The teams are rewarding guys that don't work out, so why should the players work out?

Until the teams put their money where their mouth is and select a guy like Ontario Hampton or Quinshon Judkins over Ashton Jeanty, the cream of the crop has absolutely no incentive to test at the combine.

I can see it but when you get past round 5, maybe earlier, prospects are often better served by going the UDFA route.

Yes, but not when it comes to free agency. The whole ERFA/RFA/UFA thing is a real problem for undrafted guys. The teams are able to lay a cheap tender on them when they become free agents. For running backs especially it sort of dooms them. Short of holding out, they don't have much clout.

Very true. I was thinking of adding a caveat that it can be better to be an UDFA when it comes to up front money.
