Sadly, while he may beat the suspension, it looks like the Broncos will be without him for another week.
Travis Henry to play at Oakland? Travis Henry, RB DENNews: The Denver Post notes that another Tuesday has come and gone without Travis Henry being told of a suspension for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy. While the NFL may make a decision on Henry at any time, they normally suspend players on Tuesdays. That said, Henry is expected to be available to play at Oakland in Week 13, and Henry believes his knee (partially torn left PCL) is strong enough for him to play. "I've got to get back on the field. I will definitely be ready this week," Henry said Monday. Analysis: The Broncos will consider Henry as well as Selvin Young, who is reportedly recovered from a sprained knee, as well as first-year player Andre Hall, who filled in admirably at Chicago despite suffering a mild high-ankle sprain. We'll monitor how the Broncos' RB situation shakes out because whomever starts for them is expected to play well against Oakland's awful run defense. Stay tuned.Sadly, while he may beat the suspension, it looks like the Broncos will be without him for another week.
Uhm, what? Henry at one point was leading the league in rushing yards. I know it was some time ago but why does everybody keep forgetting that?Henry and Young were not exactly lighting things up, which is what made Hall's 167 total yards against the Bears so enticing. He showed some of that big-play ability Denver usually demands of its backs.
Good to see not everyone buys into the Shanahan being secretive stereotype. He's actually fairly forthcoming with his information and he does NOT use a rbbc. Also, not that I would ever want to be accused of being a Mike Shanahan homer, but the theory that he is a fantasy owner's biggest nightmare doesn't really fit here. First, he signaled more than 4 hours before Denver's late-afternoon kickoff last week that Andre Hall, not Selvin Young, would start. That is about as generous as any coach around. Second, the running back depth chart has been clear all season: 1. Henry, 2. Young, 3. Hall. And Shanahan has stuck with that order precisely.
Do not forget Young had 109 on 20 carries and a touchdown, and 20 yards recieving, not bad for someone that was not exactly tearing it up????Uhm, what? I was under the impression that the league would`nt interupt a team`s game preperation`s during the week ?Could they announce a suspension that would go into effect the following week ?from pftOSTED 1:44 p.m. EST, November 28, 2007TRAVIS HENRY DECISION COMING by Michael David Smith Broncos running back Travis Henry is currently awaiting word on whether or not he will be suspended for a year for his latest violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. And although there have been media reports that the NFL will not rule on Henry's appeal until next week at the earliest, Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that those reports are incorrect, and Henry is likely to learn of his fate within the next 24 hours. Henry has reportedly tested positive for marijuana, and since Henry has already served a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, another positive test would result in a yearlong suspension. Henry has stated that he has not smoked marijuana, and he has provided a hair sample and undergone a polygraph test that both Henry and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan say demonstrate that he's telling the truth. Henry has also attempted to challenge the NFL in court. But the NFL's rules are clear that urine tests are used to determine violations of the substance-abuse policy, and it seems hard to believe that he could be successful in his appeal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this is accurate, then I would think it indicates that Henry will NOT be suspended? The NFL has a pretty steadfast policy of announcing suspensions, decisions of appeals, etc BEFORE Wednesday of each week. There justification being that suspending a player later than that makes it harder for the team whose player is suspended (and for the team they must face) to game-plan, thereby putting them at a disadvantage when compared to the rest of the league. Thoughts?Schefter's money when it comes to the Broncos. If he says we'll hear something within 24 hours I think we can bank on that.
You beat me to it, but that is why this report makes me think he won't be suspended. If they announce that he won't be suspended, then they wouldn't be disrupting the Broncos (or Raiders) preparation.I was under the impression that the league would`nt interupt a team`s game preperation`s during the week ?Could they announce a suspension that would go into effect the following week ?

Do you know if he practiced today, or are you talking about the previous weeks? Just asking.AnonymousBob said:Even if he beats it, he hasn't been practicing so I doubt he starts this week.
As of yesterday John Clayton was saying Henry didn't look ready to play this weekend. IIRC, he hasn't practiced yet but I can't recall where I read that. I'll post the info when I find it again.

Selvin Young-RB- Broncos Nov. 28 - 5:56 pm et Selvin Young (knee) and Travis Henry (knee) both practiced for the Broncos on Wednesday. Andre Hall (ankle) was on the sidelines.Coach Mike Shanahan is "hopeful" about Young and Henry, but Hall seems the least likely to play at Oakland. Considering the matchup, both Henry and Young would be decent flex plays if active. It's uncertain how Shanahan would choose to divide carries, but he'd probably ride the hot hand as usual.Source: denverbroncos.comjturner01 said:They do that as to not interupt the preparation or the game. He was dropped a couple of weeks ago by the S.Young owner in order to pick up Hall. I just picked him up "hoping" he'll be playing this Sunday against Oakland. (I have to win to make the playoffs)This means he will be suspended. Count on it.....From Rotoworld:NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Travis Henry is expected to learn of the league's decision about his one-year suspension within the next 24 hours.Profootballtalk.com's Michael David Smith believes it will be hard for Henry to win his appeal considering the NFL's strict and clear rules on urine samples. It sounds like we'll finally get confirmation on the situation shortly.
What if Denver wasn't playing Oakland this week? What if Denver was playing Tennessee? What if Henry played, rushed for 300 yards and 4 scores, and Denver won a barnburner in overtime. What if Tennessee finished one game out of the playoffs? Do you know how irate everyone involved would be if it came out that the league KNOWINGLY let a clearly suspended player play because they didn't want to upstage some other piece of news? I mean, we're talking about one of the biggest football controversies in decades if the NFL knowingly allowed a player to play who shouldn't be playing. You say the NFL is only concerned with image? Fair enough. It would DESTROY the NFL's image if they were knowingly withholding suspensions, especially for a reason as silly as trying to avoid a PR hit. And I'm still not sure how announcing Henry's suspension a day after Taylor's death would result in a PR hit. Maybe I'm dense, but you're going to have to explain that one to me again. I'd think less of the league if they DIDN'T do their jobs the day after a tragedy. We agree to disagree. This was the week a decision was to be announced. I know a much lesser known player, Fred Evans was suspended yesterday, but lets be realistic unless you're a huge Vikes fan no one knows or cares about Fred Evans's suspension. Henry's suspension or non-suspension will be national sports "news". If he beats the suspension many questions will be raised about the NFL's drug testing policy. If he gets suspended questions will be raised about high profile players and the image they cast. Goodell is all about image, he has the power to hold up the announcement for a week. The death of Taylor is HUGE for Goodell and the league office, its highly likely that attention is focused on any thing other than Taylor-Taylor's family and the Redskins this week. Agree or disagree, don't kid yourself about how image plays into the running of one of the largest businesses in our country.
Goodell does`nt come across as a guy who plays around...this is why i think henry has something and the league is trying to find a way to beat what he has going for him(henry)...hence the loooong delay. What if Denver wasn't playing Oakland this week? Based on Shanahan's history this season there is a 0% chance Henry will split carries with any RB on the roster if he's healthy. When healthy, Henry has dominated the rushing attempts in every game he's played. The key questions this week, however are: 1) Is he healthy? and 2) Will he avoid a suspension? Schefter's report today that an announcement was coming by tomorrow and he is money when it comes to Broncos' information. I saw on another site that Schefter said on the air he didn't think the news would favor Henry. Did anyone else see Schefter's actual report? I'm curious if that's what he really said or if he just said he expected an announcement by tomorrow. What are the chances Henry and Selvin split if Henry is 100%? will he become the feature back?
Personaly i would go with henry...he is practicing with the starters and as of right now is playing...even if the league suspends him this week it would`nt go into effect until after the raiders game. I`m sure if he plays , he starts. But it does blow that you cant wait until sunday to set your line up.This really sucks. I have to set my lineup today and don't know whether to role with Henry or Young.
I'm pretty much befuddled by this entire Henry situation but I cannot believe the league would allow Henry to play if he was suspended this week. That would be absolutely ridiculous. If they announce a decision today - and Schefter said we'd hear something by today - and Henry is suspended I think there is a 0% chance he plays. Then again, this has been unlike any other reported suspension in league history so all bets are probably off. But I'd still be astonished if the league announced a suspension and then allowed the suspended player to play given how he has already had his appeal. Typically, the only way suspended players are allowed to play is when they haven't had their appeal. Henry has already had his. If he's suspended, I think he's done starting the second the suspension is announced..even if the league suspends him this week it would`nt go into effect until after the raiders game. This really sucks. I have to set my lineup today and don't know whether to role with Henry or Young.
But would`nt that fall under the ''wont announce suspensions after tueday as it would effect the way a team prepares for the up coming game'' delema ?I'm pretty much befuddled by this entire Henry situation but I cannot believe the league would allow Henry to play if he was suspended this week. That's normally the case but I'm relying mainly on Schefter's report here. I don't recall the last time he was wrong about a major Broncos situation and he reported yesterday we'd hear a decision today. It could be the decision is Henry won't be suspended. That wouldn't surprise me at all at this point. But given Schefter's rep, I'm banking on us hearing something regarding Henry's fate today. But would`nt that fall under the ''wont announce suspensions after tueday as it would effect the way a team prepares for the up coming game'' delema ?I'm pretty much befuddled by this entire Henry situation but I cannot believe the league would allow Henry to play if he was suspended this week. Looks like Schefter was not wrong, there was an announcement after all, that there would not be an announcement. So for those like me with a waiver lockout after tonight for the fantasy post-season, guess I have to carry Henry and Young the rest the way. It's not worth it to guess wrong, and leave a starting RB on waivers if Henry is not suspended.NFL Remains Mum on Travis Henry's Appeal --

The Denver Post reports it appears Broncos RB Travis Henry will be allowed to play this week. The NFL said Tuesday there wouldn't be an announcement on Henry's future. While the league could make an announcement at any time on Henry's appeal of a one-year NFL drug suspension, it is protocol that the league doesn't make personnel decisions once the work week begins (Wednesdays). Henry, his attorneys and the Broncos were expecting a decision on his appeal as early as Nov. 20. Without a decision, there has been increased optimism from Henry's camp. Henry had his appeal heard Nov. 16 in Phoenix.

Not sure about that. Schefter's report was after this report in the Post and he said the reports that there would be no announcement this week were false. Same here Bob. My choices are pathetic and this is a must win week for me. Win and In!Well I'll be starting Henry this week...which means he won't do much.
