Tried to tell my fellow FBG'ers about V.MORENCY (1 Viewer)

He looks great and as i posted in another Houston rb thread that he is our best back and was our most talented rb last year including DD. Was making mistakes last year...

So far he is running with same explosion from last year.

Picking up every blitz so far.

Made a nice grab and shook da #### out of somebody.

Say hello to the new fantasy STUD. While people was on Lundys bandwagon, being a houston homer i waited and took Morency later....

Lundy looks slow with no juice....Missed one pickup and dropped yet another pass.

Which position do you play?

I was impressed with both Morency & Lundy tonight.

I think both RBs will see lots of action this year...

Why does everyone forget about A. Smith?
Cause he's probably done. The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports Antowain Smith is in danger of not making the Texans.Smith appeared a fine handcuff for Domanick Davis and even a possible starter due to Davis' knee troubles, but rookies Wali Lundy and Chris Taylor have more value because they can play special teams.

I'll believe it when I see it. Veterans have a way fo suprising people (see Curtis Martin 2004). I wouldn't write off A. Smith until the cut actually happens.

We'll see, even so, that means 4 RB that will share the ball or A Smith won't get enough carries to be worth starting.

I've been posting for weeks that A Smith is the noob pick...still think so.
Chitown, I know you get a lot of good info about Houston and have liked Morrency for the entire offseason and TC to be the guy. With that said, do you think tonight cemented his spot at the top of the depth chart with DD out indefinitely or do you see Lundy and he still pretty neck and neck?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with who should be grabbed from Houston this year, but I don't see how this statement makes sense. Morency and Lundy are young guys getting tons of hype and lighting up the preseason, that's the type of player the standard schmo FF player (IE 'noob') falls in love with, they're the obvious pick. It's like saying Stephen Davis was the 'noob' pick last year while Jamal Robertson was ripping up the preseason.

many of the noobs just assumed Smith was the closest reliable handcuff before camp since Kubiak brought him in and many of these folks dismissed Morency and Lundy as battling it out for the last rb spot...I've watched this all unfold all off season on all the high traffic Texans sites. Smith as been the noob play this whole time.

Lundy looked like a rookie tonight and Morency ran explosively and had one juke in the open field that had the Rams crowd gasping. He's the real thing. Lundy is a lock to make the squad too imo, he can handle kicks and punts enough to back up Buchannon and Mathis. I think A Smith gets dumped or is just kept for short yardage/goal line/emergency at the end of the day.

Plus Smith is 34 years old. 34... and he wasn't a burner while he was in his prime. Guys like Stephen Davis and CMart have enjoyed lots of success while Smith has been an average RB for his entire career. Smith is older and less talented than those guys.

Morency ran through some w i d e open holes.

This is the kind of news I need to hear...I took Morency as my #4 RB in a keeper league

I just took a shot on a decent young guy, and with Davis looking like a has been Morency seemed like a good bet.

BTW, I took him one round after Lundy.

I had a draft last night in a deep 20 team league. I took Morency in the 8th round and love hearing the news here. That is why I love this websight. One of our guys drafted Davis 12 overall.

I've been posting for weeks that A Smith is the noob pick...still think so.
The Noobs are the ones who are hyping Morancy and Lundy. Take a look at that NOOB David Dodds who wrote the 12 team Perfect Draft article. Even that NOOB thinks that A. Smith has "exceptional value" in the 10 to 13 rounds. If I'm a NOOB, then I guess I am in good company. The fact is that I forgot more about this game than you will ever know.

This does have RBBC written all over it. If you spend a pick on Morency or Lundi, spend it late. Certainly after you have two legit RB starters, and possibly three. DD has been a talent on this team and has had a fair degree of success. Lets not make the mistake of plugging one of Lundi or Moreny into DD's spot and automatically expect the same production.

We all know about DD's injury issues - why do I think Morency has also had trouble staying healthy? Anybody recall - esp Texans homers?

I guess you didn't watch the game if you believe that.Lundy ran with all 1st stringers, guys who will be starting in the NFL. Morency was running against many guys who will be sacking groceries this time next month. Let's relax now, shall we? I've always thought as many other Texans fans I know that Morency has as just a good of shot to be a part of the RB crew in Houston as Lundy. Heck, anyone who watched Lundy play in college as I did would definitely agree that the kid does have talent.

RBBC looking somewhat strong in Houston so far.

FYI: John McClain for awhile has mentioned that A Smith has a good shot at NOT making the team, for a number of reasons.

The announcers loved to repeat how "little and tough" Morency was last night. He looked great but it was what it was, against many scrubs. Doesn't mean it doesn't count but it's like having Varsity talent and you are going against many walk on's.That said, I think from the team's perspective, it would be very wise to have a RBBC and I would be shocked if ANY RB in that crew will get enough fantasy juice to be worth rostering. Could multiple injuries happen making one a stellar late round back? Sure. But do you really want to roster abunch of potential dead weight through out the year? That's up to you.John McClain also mentioned that while DD has looked great running the ball in practice, when he walks, he walks with a noticeable limp. The O-line has looked A LOT better since this time last year but Carr looks like he hasn't improved one bit. Still shaky, holding onto the ball waaaaaay too long which doesn't bode well at this point.Lot of ball left though.

If there isn't going to be a RBBC in Houston this year than I don't know where.
I was impressed with both Morency & Lundy tonight.I think both RBs will see lots of action this year...
:goodposting: Imagine the Broncos in Texas. Both guys will get plenty of playing time and opportunities to take advantage of the zone blocking scheme. The Texans would be wise to use both backs. Doesn't help us in the fantasy football world, but it'll probably help them out in the long run to develop both players.

Camp quotes - Day 18

Following are excerpts from coach Gary Kubiak and players following the eighteenth day of the Texans' 2006 training camp.

(on playing multiple running backs in the regular season)

“We’ll play two for sure, we might play three. We’ll definitely have a system where we’ll rotate before so we’re not just wearing out one guy. I think you have to have two on game day to be effective.”

This may be the first time I steer clear of a team RB situation. HOU may end up with 4 RB's that each get 100 carries. And it's not like their aerial assault is gonna scare defenses, so whoever totes the rock is looking at 8 in the box. The only guy that I will target from HOU is Andre Johnson.

Just Traded MY BOY Morency for a 07 1st rounder....i still like him more than anything but with me having Bush Maroney Gore Bemm C.Brown C.Perry ,V.Hayes and M.Smith i thought it was worth it.....I now have 3 07 1st rounders.

I watched the game....I own all the games. I actually have a tape of every single game....I've been to practice...I've talked to coaches. I'm the noob. Just go with that....I'd even put me on ignore I'm so far out in left field.

curtis martin is a top-10 all time rusher.... there is no way you can compare a.smith who is a back-up journey man to him.

Putting people on IGNORE is a bushleague. That statement you made though shows either you were watching another game or you are going to have to back it up with more information. Lundy played against 1st team while Morency played against scrubs if you forgot (may want to go back and watch the game again).

I think both will fit in nicely with a RBBC approach the Texans are surely going to use this year.

Why would I be watching another game when I work for the Texans?

So your biased then, was wondering why you made that statement.Did you know that one back played against mostly NFL starters while the other ran against people who won't even be playing football this time next month? I guess that means nothing to you but for most people who follow football, it kinda does.

Don't jump on the Morency bandwagon just yet:

Texans | Morency's style doesn't fit Kubiak's offense

Sat, 19 Aug 2006 23:11:35 -0700

Richard Justice, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB Vernand Morency approaches the line of scrimmage deliberately as he moves left and right feeling for an opening. However, head coach Gary Kubiak seeks a running back who trusts the blocking, makes one cut and goes. Kubiak said, "It's difficult to do what we ask him to do because that wasn't his style." Morency finished the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 19, with 95 yards on 11 carries while scoring two touchdowns. He also added three receptions for 19 yards.

Texans | Morency excels Saturday

Sat, 19 Aug 2006 20:43:57 -0700

R.B. Fallstrom, of the Associated Press, reports Houston Texans RB Vernand Morency had touchdown runs of 4 and 43 yards as the Texans defeated the St. Louis Rams 27-20 Saturday evening, Aug. 19. The Texans' first touchdown, Morency's 4-yard run midway through the second quarter, came against the Rams' second-stringers.

Thanks for the insult and sometimes I don't know why I share stuff with people like you on boards outside of houstontexans.com. It isn't worth it sometimes...kinda a big waste of time.I'm not biased. I don't have any relationship with Lundy or Morency outside of the fact that I'm close to the team...I don't really care who gets the nod...but I relay my views since I'm close to the team.

Take it or leave it...but my feel for the players as it pertains to fantasy football is what it is...I have no agenda.

Honestly I think it's quite simple at the moment.

Morency starts the year as #1 simply because he's a better blocker. Kubiak knows he has to keep Carr upright if they want to win any games this year. I think he brings in Lundy as the third down/Tatum Bell change of pace back to start the year. If Morency slows, since he's had injury concerns in the past, then Lundy will have been slowly worked into the offense anyways and will assume the starting role.

So what info. does anyone have on DD? DD went for over $30 in my auction Friday. I grabbed Morency and Lundy for $1 each.

PS that Richard Justice quote is just based on preseason speculation about Morency. Justice is a BASEBALL writer and doesn't know his head from his ### when it comes to football. I'm sure I'm biased on that one too. ;)
