Trivia Time: Division Winners (1 Viewer)

Question #1: From what I have read, people tend to think a majority of the division winners should win again this year. When was the last year that a majority of the teams that won the division the previous year repeated as division champions?

Question #2: The Patriots and Colts have each won their respective divisions five consecutive seasons (and the Seahawks four times in a row). Prior to those two teams doing it, eight other teams have won a division at least five years in a row, since the league merged in 1970.

a) how many of those eight teams won the division in year 6?

b) which team has won the most consecutive division titles since the merger?

Answer:

a) 3 (The Man With No Name), Minnesota 1973-1978, Pittsburgh 1974-1979, and LA Rams 1973-1979

b) LA Rams 1973-1979 (DonFue)

Question #3: Which division had the longest stretch where no division winner repeated, and how many years was it?

Question #4: Which team won the most consecutive division titles without ever advancing to a conference championship or beyond in any of those seasons?

Answer: Baltimore Colts, 1975-1977 (DonFue) and ???????????????

Question #5: Which team, among those that were members of the league at the time of the merger in 1970, was the last to win a division title, and in what year?

Question #6: None of the franchises that are currently members of the NFC South have ever won back to back division titles. Excluding those four teams and the Texans (who have yet to win a division title), FIVE other franchises have never won consecutive division titles since the merger. Who are they?

Answer: Lions (DonFue), Jets (Andy Herron), Titans/Oilers (DonFue), Ravens (Andy Herron), and ????????

2b. San Francisco?
incorrect. San Fransisco's longest stretch is five consecutive years (1986-1990). They did win the NFC West nine out of ten times from 1986-1995, but the Saints won the division in 1991.

2a- 32b- Pitsburgh Steelers
3 out of 8 is the correct answer to question 2a. I won't list the teams yet because that would give the answer to 2b, though the Steelers are one of the three. Pittsburgh is incorrect as an answer to 2b though. Pittsburgh won the AFC Central six straight years, 1974-1979, but the Bengals had won the division in 1973 on a tiebreaker, and the Browns won the AFC Central in 1980.

2b Minnesota won 6 consecutive division titles from 1973-1978, but are not the correct answer either. You may have mentioned the right one though.4. No, there are actually two teams that won 3 consecutive division titles and did not advance to a championship game in any of those years.5. No, the Cards won a division in 1974 and 19756. Lions are correct (so is New Orleans, but there are still three left)

Question #6Jets, Baltimore, Jacksonville, and the aforementioned Lions.?
Jets are correct. Jacksonville is incorrect (won in both 98 and 99) Baltimore is correct, but I missed them, so make it five. Two others still out there.
