All Day Peterson had boatloads of rushing yards today, but he didn't even lead his team in carries.

From 1995-2006...

1) Where do you think Peterson ranks on the list for most rushing yards without leading his team in carries in that game?

2) Who are the top three finishers?

Answers:

1) One.

2)

Marshall Faulk, 2001, week 9: 15 carries, 184 yards. Trung Canidate had 16 carries in a 34 point win.

Mike Vick, 2002, week 13: 10 carries, 173 yards. T.J. Duckett had 11 carries in the OT win.

Tiki Barber, 2000, week 1: 13 carries, 144 yards. Ron Dayne had 23 carries for 78 yards in a five point wni.

Of course, if this study included 2007, Adrian Peterson would rank 1st, and Michael Turner (147 yards against the Broncos) would come in ahead of Barber. The above list is guys that ranked second on the team in carries, but first on the team in rushing yards. Mike Vick also rushed for 166 yards in a game when ranking third on his team in carries, and no one else (that's ranked 3rd in carries) is within even 50 yards of him.

Now let's do this for an entire season.

Didn't Barber go over 1000 yards without leading the Giants in carries in 2000?

This is actually correct, from 1996-now.

Bottom line: Childress is an idiot.

Looking down the list, we've got:

1. Faulk - rested in blowout

2. Vick - Qb

3. Vick - Qb

4. Barber - it was Ron Dayne's first game as a rookie. Unknown that Barber>>>>Dayne.

5. Vick - QB

6. Turner - backup RB

7. Broussard - backup RB

8. Clinton Portis - rested, blowout

9. Charlie Garner -- committee with Duce Staley

Garner's the best example. But he had almost 100 fewer yards than Peterseon did! No coach has ever come close to doing what Childress did. When you're in a competitive game, with one awesome back and one mediocre back, and your awesome back is playing lights out, how in the world do you not give him the most carries on your team?

Obviously, 20 carries is more than enough to do fantasy damage. But seriously, what is/was Childress thinking?

Weren't Mack & Bleier (maybe Morris as well) parts of backfields with mulitple 1000 yard rushers, back wehn it meant something?

So, Peterson should have gotten 42 carries? Where do you draw the line?Just because Chester takes 7 carries to get 30 yards and Peterson gets it in 3 doesn't mean that Taylor should not play. Chester ended up with 83 yards yesterday - not too shabby. Childress's team ended up with 311 yards rushing - not too shabby. I don't know how you can criticize him at all. I think that a fresh Peterson was the reason he wasn't caught from behind by the DB's in those 2nd half runs.

You can't run Peterson to death (not yet anyway).

You are correct. :lmao: All three were in backfields where two running backs gained over 1000 yards each. Bleier and Morris did so in 14 game seasons, while Mack's was in 16 games (although he was a rookie).Bleier and Morris had the lower yardage in their respective pairs, while Earnest Byner had 1002 yards as Mack's partner.

If you want to keep Peterson's legs fresh then TAKE HIM OFF SPECIAL TEAMS for crissake...ah yes, I know, if he hadn't been on special teams then the Vikes wouldn't have returned that last kick-off deep enough to kick the game winning field goal..well, if he had been given 28-30 rushes then they wouldn't have needed him to return that last kick-off because they would have been up 2 scores by then. Bottom line is that you/Childress can't use the "he did X because he was fresh" excuse if he's also returning kick-offs!

1. AD

2. Derrick Blaylock (game where he and Priest each had like 4 TDs)

3. Dorsey Levens (when Edgar Bennett started?)
