True WR Value compared to RB in PPR Leagues (1 Viewer)

Maybe its the scoring system this league uses but I'm really struggling to grasp the breakpoint between RB's and WR's in a PPR scoring system. The fact I listen to way too much fantasy football talk on SiriusXM probably isn't helping me either.

I'm constantly hearing how elite WR's can be more valuable than elite RB's, especially in PPR scoring formats. Either that or once the elite RB's are gone (AP, Bell, Charles, etc) then jump on the elite WR's (Brown, Dez, DT, etc). Which I get, because if Dez is dropping 16 TD's, 1500+ yds and 100+ receptions that makes sense.

But is this ASSuming that yardage scoring for RB's and WR's are the same? A quick search of MFL10's, Yahoo and ESPN show that is the case for their default scoring but is that what most people do in reality? I've been playing FF for 20yrs and have never had rushing & receiving yardage scoring the same and this league that has me puzzled gives 1pt/5yds rushing and 1pt/10yds receiving...so double the points for rushing yardage compared to receiving.

Do most leagues have the same yardage scoring for both rushing & receiving? I guess I need to just accept it but its tough to get my head around this when I setup Draft Dominator and Antonio Brown is #17 overall w/ the first 16 all RB's.

** Apologies if Shark Pool isn't proper forum but didn't think AC was either **

Yes, every league that I can recall has had them the same. That would make a big difference.

Also, the fact that you start 2 WR and in a 10 team league, rather than 3 and 12 (which is what I think most people assume as the standard), changes the dynamic. Your baseline is the number 21 WR, rather than 36, so there is less of a drop-off from the 1st WR to the last startable WR. It is actually around the same cut-off.

My work league has this setup (10-team, start 2 WR, 6 pt Pass TD). My rankings have 8 RBs in the top 25 and 9 WRs in the top 25. Antonio Brown is number 2, Gronk is number 5 and DT is number 7.

If I change to 5 pts per rush yd, my top 6 are RBs, but Brown is still number 7. Then Rodgers, then McCoy and Murray. So 8 RBs in the top 10 vs.5.

So overall, I think that the dynamic you are seeing is correct, but it is a little strange for me to see Brown all the way at 17.

I've also been playing for 20+ years and I've never played in a league in which the scoring for yardage for rushing and receiving were different.

Intriguing.

Yeah, I've never heard of a league where rushing yards are worth more than receiving yards so that seems to be your disconnect.

My initial gut reaction was that Antonio Brown at 17 based on that scoring system was insane--but in your scoring system I think it makes sense. Based on your league giving 1 pt for every 5 rushing yards--and 1 pt for every ten receiving yards in a ppr format---just break it down:

If a wr gets 7 receptions for 100 yards and a td---he would get 7+10+6pts= 23 pts

all an rb would have to do to get that would be 85 rushing yards+1td= 17+6= 23pts

The yardage system that your league uses basically reduces the impact of the ppr element compared to most leagues. When doing your draft--don't even think of your league as a ppr league--think of it as an extreme standard league.

I started in two leagues in 2000 and both of them had different scoring systems. Part of the reason was because the size of the league and the required starting lineup was unique so there needed to be a little bit of a balance. For example...

In one league the starting lineup is QRWWTKD and RBs get more points per yard, helping to balance the PPR.

In the 14 team league, it is QRWWFFTKD where WRs score a fractional 0.14 pts per yard and TEs get 0.2 per yard. The idea is to allow any team to make an interesting decision mid-draft on availability if their team will be WR strong or RB strong (and the rare case it is TE strong).

It breaks up the monotony of leagues being the exact same across the board, that's for certain...

At this point it's probably clear to you but yes your league is unique in its scoring of RB yardage.

It was much worse. I took over Commish last year and have been slowly changing the scoring to be less insane. We used to award 1pt/rush attempt and 1pt/completion! Talk about out of whack scoring. Original commish said he wanted scoring to be like a pinball machine, which is fine w/in reason. I've had weeks where my team scored over 320pts.
