The racist governor thread got me thinking about this.

These were popular in the 80's. I remember having them as a kid/teen and thought it was funny as did many others.  If those came out today, would they be as popular? More criticized? Is it ok to laugh at jokes like that anymore? If we used to own/laugh at those jokes, does that make us racist/misogynistic/ekcetra?

I'd imagine the bar for which ones of them are funny would be quite a bit higher today. While farts will always be funny, I like to think I have a more refined palette these days - and that goes for a lot of things. For example, I'll still eat Taco Bell occasionally but it never tastes as good as it did 30 years ago.

I have no idea what these are.
They came out in the mid to late 80s and were quite popular with middle school aged kids for a decade or so. Really bad jokes for the most part. They all were some form of gross (I.e. "Eww"), dirty (I.e. Sexual), and/or inappropriate (I.e. Not "politically correct"). I would imagine many of them are also rather bad/dumb to most people not 13ish.

They're just old ### jokes that have been around forever. They're old and stale and dusty. Hack jokes. They sucked then and they suck now.

They were old in the Sixties when I first heard them.

Are we talking a magazine? Or in a pack like bubblegum cards? I guess I need to google because I'm still confused.

I'm sure most of the jokes are way older but the books gian referenced were small paperbacks - like 150 pages, easily concealed from teachers. Titles like "Truly Tasteless Jokes", "More Truly Tasteless Jokes", "What's Grosser Than Gross", etc

I was talking about dead baby and Helen Keller jokes, not the books.  I think we crossed thoughts here.

Only sort of. I'm sure all/most of the jokes in those book were around a lot longer. But the books referenced in the OP are specific things that were popular with adolescents in the 80s. They may have existed before then for all I know.

Dead babies, Helen Keller, what do you call a man with no arms or legs that ______, ekcetra - all possible topics within them. Along with things like - "what's grosser than your brother keeping a collection of old scabs? - realizing that wasn't the box of corn flakes you just ate." High quality jokes, obviously.

Pretty much all humor is in bad taste and offends someone.  The question is, how big of the population finds it tasteless before it becomes taboo?  Yoga pants thread as an example.
