Me too and my wife always says this when she wants it to be turn to a warmer temperature so I always make it colder anyway to mess with her and then an argument ensuesIf someone told me to "turn up" the air conditioner I would assume they want it to be colder.
That's the thermostat, not the AC.I guess I'm in the minority. If I have the AC set to 72 and you want me to turn it up, I move it to 73 or 74 ... warmer.
This is exactly what I was just coming in to post. To "turn something up" means exactly that. To make it do more of what it does.Turn something up means make it do more of what it does.
Turn up the radioI'm old school, so I crank it up.
Instead, they should ask you to turn down the heater. This is a peeve of mine as well. I know from experience that my wife means "make it colder," and that's how I voted. With guests/others that say this, I always ask "Would you like it colder or warmer?", just to clarify.
No, it really doesn't.Turn up the AC really means to turn up the temp on the stat.
So, saying "turn up the heat" means make it colder?Turn up the AC really means to turn up the temp on the stat. So make it warmer. Same thing if running heat.
