Turner and Snelling RBBC now? (1 Viewer)

How can Mike Smith ignore Snelling's performance and Turner's injury history? I'd have to think after this last week, Snelling will def. see an increase in carries. Possibly even goaline work. I know Smith said Turner is starter but there is no way Snelling doesn't get an uptick in carries.

You're going to pull a 244 lb RB at the goal line who has a nose for the end zone?

because he sees them everyday in practice and he knows what they can do. I wouldn't think one game against what is likely to be a team with a top 3-4 draft pick next year would be a cause to change how they deal with their RBs going forward.

It will probably be only RBBC to the extent that Snelling handles 3rd down/obvious passing situations, as Snelling will likely be taking over for the injured Norwood.

For 2010 Atl was going to scale back Turner's carries. It's always been a RBBC.
In Week 1, when Turner wasn't hurt, he had 19 carries vs Snelling's 2.I don't see some sort of timeshare thus far for the Falcons.

There is no denying how good Turner is. But i think Smith now knows how good of a 1-2 punch he has. I think Turner's value could take a bit of a hit.

It sounds like you either have Snelling on your FF team or are justifying trying to add him. But in real life, this was just a situation that happened and really doesn't need much read into it. This isn't a team that is going to become a two headed monster with two backs that play the same type of ball.

im guessing the coach will pull turner anytime the game gets out of hand. but the falcons arent good enough for that to happen regularly so its a non issue

Because most of it came against a defeated and demoralized crappy Cardinals team. Jerome Haarison ran buck wild against a crappy Chiefs team that had nothing to play for late last season, and that hasn't translated into anything this season. Look at the level of competition.

This was before the season began. Turner's carries were higher due to Norwood's injury. Now that Norwood is out for the year, it will be a RBBC with Turner and Snelling. They definitely do not want Turner to carry a full load since he already injured that groin. That's probably the best news for Turner owners."Falcons to limit Turner's carriesPosted: 175 days 5 mins ago. | Source CBSSports.com News: Atlanta coach Mike Smith said in an interview with CBSSports.com at the NFL owner's meeting in Orlando, Fla., that Falcons RB Michael Turner is ready to go for the 2010 season after he was limited to 11 games in 2009 with a high-ankle sprain. 'I think he'll be back bigger, faster and stronger this year,' Smith said. 'His mindset in the offseason already has been completely different than it has been the last two years.' Despite the high praise, Smith still wants to limit Turner's carries this season. In 2008, Turner led the NFL in carries with 376. Count the 18 carries in the playoff loss against Arizona, and he had 394 carries in 2008. The Falcons don't want that much wear and tear on Turner this season. 'It's important for us to do a good job of monitoring his carries and not necessarily having a number that we're saying we're going to keep him to for the season or for a game, but I think we have to make sure we don't overwork Michael for the entire season,' Smith said. Define RBBC. Turner has been a workhorse and should continue to be one. If Snelling gets the carries he would have gotten plus the carries Norwood would have gotten plus maybe 1 or 2 of Turner's, that's probably a RBBC by definition but could still net Turner 2/3 of the carries and a ton of carries (20 a game).

Ok, Norwood had 2 carries in Week 1, so that makes it Turner 19, Norwood 2, and Snelling 2.And as for what coaches say in preseason, I put very little stock in it.They all want to control the ball on offense, establish the running game, play an aggressive defense, yada yada yada..I can see Turner's carries ending up lower from his career high, but nothing that makes any sort of huge impact. Barring injury of course.

Don't forget that this is an offense that generally doesn't ask Matt Ryan to throw the ball 35-40 times with regularity - unless they are down big, of course.

Even if there is a time share of some sort, there's no reason why Turner can't get 20 or so carries and Snelling another 10, give or take.

If someone has that much confidence in Snelling stepping in if Turner gets hurt then you could judt as easily run Turner into the ground. Many people feel that flip flopping RB during a game means that neither can truely get into the flow of the game so you are better off giving one guy a heavy workload.
