Ty Law taking physical for Pats (1 Viewer)

Looks like the Pats are still in the mix for Law. He'd be a great addition to their secondary. Besides being a veteran presence to go along with the youngsters they would be very deep at the CB position. While not the player he was three years ago I think there's little doubt he can still be very effective in a system he already knows.

While I'd love to see this happen I'm still skeptical that the money will work out. The Pats have the cap space but Ol' Ty has never been shy about asking for the moon and the Pats usually don't offer the moon. Hopefully the combination of a fair contract offer and Law realizing this is the best fit for him (and his legacy) will get things done.

Yeah - Ty has to "feed his family" - not sure if Belichick will pay that out.

Then again, if they're bringing him in for a physical, I guess they have to think there's SOME chance they can agree on a number...maybe, with the cap space the Patriots have, they'd be willing to give Law some kind of incentive based contract.

Word has it that the negotiations are directly between Law and Belichick. I have a feeling this will get done.

If Law is in the fold, and Harrison comes back healthy from his knee injury, the Pats secondary suddenly looks VERY strong.

It would certainly be nice, but I'm not going to get excited about this until it's official. Law wants $10 million in the first year of his new contract, and I just don't see that happening.

The Pats still have something like $17 million in cap space for next season...

I'd still be surprised to see the Pats give $10M to Law. Some of that money could be used to extend Branch's contract, the rookies aren't signed yet, and I think they'll still be looking to sign some players after the June 1 cuts.

so the pats let the jets have Law for one year, making our team just good enough to miss out on reggie bush. Now they sign him back. Brilliant!!

Very true, but I am sure that the Ty Law camp knows there is no team out there that's going to give him a huge payday. If this is in fact the case, the Pats may want to give him a "big" one year deal. I think the role of Ty Law in going to be of a mercenary for hire the rest of his career.

Was Ty Law the difference between the Jets gettingBush or D'Brick ?

I don't think so.

I agree 100% and will be surprised if they don't give up alot of $$ for Ty's services for a one year deal. I know historically the Pats are frugal with FA's but this year unlike others they have an abundance of cap space. There isn't any other player left out there who would solidify the defense as much as Ty. As long as it doesn't hurt the future cap this would make sense. They will still have plenty of $$ to sign the rooks and a few free agents come June. You know they will spend every penny they have left under the cap so someone is going to get some serious $$.

I saw him last week at Copley plaza and a poster on another site swore he had an interview with the Titans the very same day, at least according to ESPN.

I kinda think the Jets had more issues that lead them to last year's record than Ty Law playing CB.

They didn't want to pay him $9million the year before he broke his foot, what makes anyone think they'll pay him $10mil now? Not to mention the heavier, slower version of Ty. If he signs back with the Pats, expect a low base, extensive performance bonus type deal. They should have one that fines him for every yard of pass interference called. ;)

FOXBOROUGH -- Ty Law’s agent Carl Poston told the Globe this morning that his client took a physical for the Patriots last week, but there have been no substantive talks between the two parties about a contract.Poston said while a physical is an ‘‘indication of a level of interest,’’ it does not mean an offer is impending. ‘‘I often have clients take physicals that lead to nothing,’’ Poston said. Law also took a physical for the Chiefs last Thursday.

exactly. signing a solid CB like law was the only thing that kept us from 2-14

Last year they were willing to give up 7 mil for 2 years plus surrender a high draft pick for the mighty Duane Starks who was coming off an injury. This year they have double or triple the cap room of last year so I don't see paying Law some good coin is so far-fetched.

Why are we talking about Ty as if he is on the decline (performance not age wise)? He had 10 Interception last year and made the Pro-Bowl....while I don't think he may average 10 int's over the next 2 years, he still is one of the CB's in the league that you don't want to test if you don't have to. Give him his money he has earned it and has shown that he will reward the team that pays for his services.

The Ty Law of last year was not the Ty Law we all knew and loved in New England. He's lost a step and the new rules that cut down on physical play in the secondary have hurt him. You cannot judge a CB's effectiveness simply by looking at his interception totals.

Their is lots of talk doing on that Law is headed back to New England to finish out his career. Not etched in stone but some strong vibes coming out of this area(Boston) say that he will return here. We shall see but if so the Pats will be very strong and IMO favorites to win another SB.

I have seen the hypemeter in full force on this one, but I saw a blurb yesterday that law's agenst said there has been no real contract talks yet . . .

Agent confirms Law's physicalBy Jerome Solomon, Globe Staff | May 16, 2006FOXBOROUGH -- Ty Law's agent, Carl Poston, said his client took a physical for the Patriots last week, but there have been no substantive talks between the two parties about a contract.Poston said that while a physical is an ''indication of a level of interest," it does not mean an offer is impending. ''I often have clients take physicals that lead to nothing," Poston said yesterday. Law also took a physical for the Titans last Thursday, and has been in regular contact with Chiefs coach Herman Edwards.''If things all work out, it'll be great," Edwards told reporters last week. ''Talks are on, so we'll see where it's at."The cornerback played his first 10 years in the league with the Patriots, but joined the Jets, then coached by Edwards, after being released by New England in February 2005. Law didn't sign with New York until July. He led the NFL in interceptions with 10 last season.Poston said the Chiefs, Patriots, Titans, and Seahawks all remain in the hunt for Law's services, though no formal offer has been made by any team and Law is under no pressure to make a decision soon.Seattle was thought to be the early favorite, and even after drafting a cornerback in the first round, the Seahawks have maintained contact with Law.The Patriots and Chiefs have the most room under the salary cap to sign Law, whose asking price is in the $10 million range for next season.

Yesterday, on NFL Network, Schefter reported that the Seahawks are currently the front runners for Ty Law.

Not sure if this was just a ploy by the Poston's to drive up Law's price for New England or not.
