Typical IDP League Configuration (1 Viewer)

Heya gents,

Recently in the league that I run, we've decided to make the move to IDP for next season. Shortly after we made the decision, I quickly realized that I know very little about how IDP works. I guess I've always assumed that you simply choose a small number of defensive players and assign point values to certain things such as sacks, INTs, etc. Is this how most of you guys do it? How do some of you run your IDP leagues?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

1) you may get more help in the IDP forum

2) you should try a search (though its a bummer than you can't search for "IDP"), as I recall this topic being discussed a bit in the last offseason

3) our league starts 2DL, 3LB, 2DB...points for tackles, assists, sacks, forced fumbles, pass defenses, and interceptions

It really depends on how much influence you want your IDPs to have on the outcome of a game. I am in 2 leagues where the IDP has a huge influence on the outcome and in 2 leagues where the IDP does not much influence.

That will greatly influence how many you start and how you score.

we use 3 DL, 3 LB and 3 DB

Scoring is 2 per tackle, 1 per assist, 1 per pass defensed, 3 per sack, .1 for sack yardage, 4 per INT, 3 per FF and 2 per fumble recovery as an example

Dynasty, keeper, redraft? There's alot to consider, but snellman's comment on "IDP influence" is key to getting the league settings the way you want them.

I suggest going with something pretty standard, like:

3 DL, 3 LB, 3 DB.

1/tackle, .5/assist

3/sack

2/ff

2/fr

3/int

6/td

.02/return yard

2/pass defensed

4/safety

2/blocked kick

DL = DE + DT

DB = S + CB

Well said. In fact, I would strongly recommend getting the 2005 stats (offense and defense), putting them into a spreadsheet, and playing around with scoring systems until you have the balance you want. I'm probably a bit of a nut, but I always do this when we are considering a scoring change. I would hate to realize in week three that giving X number of points per sack has now created a serious imbalance somewhere.If you need the 2005 stats let me know. I have lots and lots of stats. I love football. And stats.Did I mention stats?

If your going to do this, then DO IT! ;)

We use 40 man rosters, start 11 IDP's, break up our DT's/DE's and CB's/S's.

We have three diferent IDP starting lineup variations.

4-3: 1-DT, 2-DE, 1-FLEX DL, 3-LB, 2-CB, 2-S

3-4: 1-DT, 2-DE, 4-LB, 2-CB, 2-S

Nickle: 1-DT, 2-DE, 3-LB, 2-CB, 2-S, 1-FLEX CB/S

Scoring:

Tackle = 1pt

Assist = .5pt

Sack = 2pt per half

INT = 5pt

FF = 3

FR = 2

PD = 1

Either way you do it IDP is the way to go. Good luck and have some fun with it. :thumbup:
