UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (3 Viewers)

:goodposting: to all the recent posts. Really wanted to see Rousey get another loss and absolutely lose it. And little Roxanne had won me over. Easy to like. Her opponent is likable too and has a compelling story. Would be interesting for an "old" woman to win it. I'm sure Dana is hoping the young cute girl wins but I'm sure she's in either way.

If anyone can catch a rerun of that Rousey "Breaking Ground" show on FS1 it's worth the watch.

Not necessarily defending all her actions or whatever on TUF, but it's not surprising given her background. I do think there is some clever editing going on as well.

I love Roxxy and her infectious personality, but if that's what has been out there as far as female fighters I am glad Danna has kept them away from the octagon as long as he has. She GASSED after one round and basically gave up. Embarrassing to watch. Then the "Happy Warrior" had one of the biggest emotional meltdowns on the show. I applaud her guts and tenacity, but can't help but feel she should be doing something else with her life.

ETA: Here's her getting KO'd by the same Rampage-like slam by a real woman fighter, Sarah Kaufman. I wonder if she's the only person to have been devastated by that move twice:

I think Tate is being edited to look overly calm, but I don't see how they can be editing Rousey. Just too much and too consistent for this to be the makings of an edit. And her coach appears to be a piece of work too.

When Dana himself is trying to tell her its not good for the sport, it tells me this is not an edit.

she has 25 fights and has fought on some pretty big stages, so i think she has an idea what she is doing. My guess is it looked like she caught multiple clean shots, and could be some of those octagon jitters a bit. the veterans on this show for the women have fought through a ton to get even recognized as fighters, so i'm sure when you fight for over a decade, finally get to the big stage and lose right away it has to blow.

the crazy dynamic is seeing Shayna and Roxxy being trained by Tate and Rousey. it would be like Tank Abbot or Royce Gracie getting trained by GSP or something. would just be weird

I do  me some Miesha, though.
This. I never realized she was so hot. Too bad she's with that tool of a boyfriend.

On a related note, I've been a huge Rousey fan since she burst upon the scene, but this show is kind of having her fall back to earth for me. And her coach... speaking of tools.

Yushin Okami and Mike Ricci got released.
Yeah, I don't get the Okami release at all. Dude was -- what -- 3-1 in his last four fights? I know he got destroyed by Jacare inside of a round in his last fight, but who wouldn't? Jacare's on a frigging beast tear right now.

Here's what Dana had to say about why he was released:

"He's been with us forever," White said of Okami, who first fought in the UFC in 2006. "He was always a tough guy and was right up there, but it's almost like he'd become a gatekeeper. I like Okami, and you've heard me say this many times, that a win over Yushin Okami meant something

"But he was never able to get over the hump and win one of those [significant] fights. We have a lot of guys coming in and I've been saying this all year: We have a full roster and there are guys who deserve opportunities. When you bring guys in, someone has to go. That's why these fights are so meaningful."
I obviously get that to bring people in you have to let people go. But I dunno, this just makes precisely zero sense.

The only thing I can justify it with is that maybe it's just that he had no mass market appeal whatsoever. And they didn't want him ruining other up-and-coming fighters marketability by performing his role as a gatekeeper a little too successfully.

That's exactly the reason. Dude was never going to be champ and would stifle up-and-comers in dull fashion. No need for a guy like that.

UFC Primetime had a pretty interesting reveal for me -- that Junior Dos Santos was dealing with rhabdomyolysis leading up to Cain/JDS2, which either

a.) explained why JDS was was so crazily outworked by Cain

or

b.) is a selling point to let suckers like me believe that that the "a" reason is legit so that I believe that Cain/JDS3 may be much different from their 2nd fight if Cigano has this under control now.

he was dealing with a divorce or something too then as well, right? I'm pretty sure i will be on JDS for that fight, but I definitely had to re-assess my views on Cain. He has looked sharp lately.

And best line of the Bellator show by far.... "the pink on the gloves is for breast awareness month". had me cracking up pretty good. And kudos to them to make a joke about it a few fights later in the show.

And i really think Bellator has regressed the last few years, probably ever since Viacom bought them. They rally had set themselves up well grooming Lombard and Eddie, and bringing in great talent like Askren and Chandler. Now they have just sold out completely, and it isn't having the effect i think they thought it would in their ratings. Though i can't lie, looking forward to both Lavar and Kongo's fights tonight. I think Lavar puts Kongo to sleep, fast, if they both can win tonight

Yeah and Cain was coming off shoulder surgery and fought 10 lbs overweight in the 1st fight. Fight 2 was more like I'd expect the fight to go if both were healthy.

:lmao: John McCarthy calling out Kongo that the nut shot he took wasn't that hard. Should be mandatory that Kongo has to catch a nut shot for each fight for the rest of his career

Thiago Silva is an idiot and didn't make weight for his fight with Hamill tomorrow. Hope he's smashed for three rounds on the ground and gets cut.

the guy is just such a mystery. a mental midget maybe? i only saw the headline, but they made it sound like he didn't put a ton of effort into the cut. i believe it was his last fight where he looked like he was finally getting it and stepping up and now this. just strange

ETA: now that i think about it, i think it has to be an injury, right? he weighed in at 208, i would think he has some injury that messed him up

Really hope Maia beats Shields.
I'm pretty sure he will. Was hoping the line was a little better than what it is but Vegas doesn't see many paths to a Shields victory either. A parlay with Dillashaw should be pretty easy money though.

Palhares is +200 in some places after getting pounded 2 in a row. I'll probably be dumb enough to take a chance on him

I just hope Maia/Shields isn't a case of two elite grapplers engaging exclusively in crappy kickboxing.
Maia has beaten grapplers as good or better than Shields before. Shields has looked lethargic and uninspired his last several fights, whereas Maia is on a mission to get a title shot at WW. Maia wins this one going away and the current odds reflect that.

Anyone with Xfinity (Comcast) seeing you can't record either the prelims or the main card for Maia vs Shields? System literally won't allow me to record either. Hit the record button and nothing. Tried other shows at same time and no issues. Maybe this has been discussed before but I have never seen this. Maybe wave of the future to stop people from fast forwarding through commercials.

Lame if true...

I thought Dillashaw won round 3 and a 29-28 decision, but just barely - I figured it wouldn't be enough to win in Brazil. He looked like he gassed pretty hard though after failing to finish that choke in the first.

had Dillashaw 29-28 too, but it was close. also had money on TJ so i'm sure that had me leaning that way too

ETA: :lmao: looks like i made a late night play on Assuanco too, so i actually made $26 on that fight. i like that surprise

Yeah, that was a great fight. 1st round was great, and the speed in which Kim took mount was awesome. Silva's explosion in the 2nd was awesome, and the ending was great. Has to get fight of the night. KO of the night maybe too. I like Silva a ton, hope he gets an easier one coming back. And real glad to see this Kim tonight, looked super aggressive and had to shoot his stock up. Maybe a fight with Ellenberger or something. I think his only loss in the UFC was to Condit, so the guy needs to be top 5 or right up there

rooting hard for Maia to KO Shields so hard he flies right out the cage door and rolls all the way into the locker room, where Dana tears up his contract and puts him on the first banana boat back to the States.

this fight will be a good test for judges. i think with the ground work so far you need to account for offensive advancement in position, and defending of it
