UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (1 Viewer)

I've always been a fan of Raahad, but IMO he hasn't been the same guy since leaving Jackson's. The whoopin he put on Phil Davis was legit, but his other wins post Jackson-Wink are:

Tito -- GTFO

Hendo -- IIRC that was totally meh by both guys

Chael -- MW who had no business fighting him

The loss to Little Nog was an atrocious performance, and no shame in losing to Jones, but in that fight he seemed to be waaaay too cautious and content to lose on points at range for a guy trying to beat the dominant champ. He's been really hit and miss the last few years.

Cormier has rag dolled much better wrestlers than Rashad, some of them at HW, and it's been a long time since Rashad has KO'd anyone on the feet. I think Cormier would be a sizable favorite vs Evans, and with good reason.

watching the special they have running of the UFC's greatest fights. Watching that Big Foot-Hunt fight again is pretty fantastic. And there is absolutely no way anybody can not be a Mark Hunt fan. I love in the 3rd (maybe the 4th) when he knocks Silva down with a straight right between Silva's gloves and Silva falls to the floor. Hunt literally walks over and just collapses on top of Silva. It just says utter exhaustion all over it
Agreed -- Hunt is the man, and that fight was epic.

don't even know why I get excited about ufc cards anymore.

jones out vs rumble and now khabib out vs cerone:

http://mmajunkie.com/2015/04/khabib-nurmagomedov-out-at-ufc-187-donald-cerrone-needs-new-opponent
I really hate that whole AKA camp. I can't think of another camp where more fighters are always hurt. honestly, the UFC should start fining training camps for repeated injuries of their fighters. they are screwing cards by who knows what, but when the same camp keeps producing hurt fighters over and over something should be done. they are a bunch of d-bags it seems too

ETA: i also wonder how much of this i because of the whole UFC covering health insurance for fighters. i don't know what it could be, but there are a ton more fighters sitting out fights than ever. May be because they have so many shows now a fighter knows they can sit out and get a fight booked whenever they want one.

and i do agree with almost all of the feedback on twitter. if you are going to run your mouth as much as he does, you can't take off fights. i don't mind them kicking him when he is down for as much as he has run his mouth the last year or so:

never even followed it enough to know that camp had that injury history. this stuff is just the norm now. can't remember it ever being like this. here's hoping for 189. on the bright side saving a ton of money not buying ppv's....

As much as Cerrone has stepped up for the UFC (and 7 fight ''winning'' streak), I'm all for pulling him entirely (though I imagine he'll want to face someone) and giving him a shot at Dos Anjos this summer

I was so excited for this card when I bought tickets a couple months ago. Now I am just waiting for the Belfort match to get pulled. Ridiculous.

Hopefully they can find someone to step in and fight Cowboy to keep him on the card. I'm sure he's down with whoever they bring in.
first one that came to mind was Bendo. Would be funny since that fight was a little controversial with the decision. I think I read somewhere Masvidal's name being mentioned. I am sure Cowboy won't turn a fight down, that would be a fun one

I'll take Masvidal vs Cowboy as the replacement fight.
Cowboy / Khabib is a more important fight for the sake of shaking out rankings and title shots -- but Masvidal / Cowboy is absolutely a more fan friendly fight.
Most def agree.

Side note...why is this the only thread on the site that when I select the star from the forum view it still goes to the first post ever? This just started happening a few days ago and it's getting really annoying. Will be horrible to navigate on a fight night.

We had to get creative with merging threads to 1.) let me be the thread owner and b.) get the original and the new thread into 1. Look at the the timestamp difference between the first post and the second post in this thread. I'm guessing the black magic didn't take, fully.

Just makes no sense for Cerrone to fight a high profile guy (or fight at all really). He's got the title shot in hand IMO.

i'm glad to see some organizations starting to cross-promote, and i think it really is a no lose situation. the nice thing with MMA is if you go out there and put on a hell of a show, but lose, your stock will likely still go up. Pretty sure it is Friday night on AXS tv, definitely worth a spot on the DVR:

http://mmajunkie.com/2015/05/big-talkers-from-other-orgs-made-rfa-vs-legacy-a-rare-co-promotional-reality

RFA vs. Legacy. both organizations have some good young guys, will be fun. Really glad that MMA can still do this, and that records are not end all be all like they can be in boxing. Guys can go out there and test themselves and put on a great show, and if they lose it won't ruin their career.

I'm not sure if it's a poor sense of judgment on my part, but I don't even mind complete ####ups who run afoul of the law. You have to recognize that the fight game is going to attract some seedy characters.

It's the hypocrisy and trying to sell himself as a choir boy that really pisses me off about Jones.
Jones been in Toys R Us commercials that I am not aware of?

Really not sure where this perception comes that Jones is portraying himself as any kind of "choir boy"..... I remember that very first fight I saw him in way back when and I immediately thought this dude was a ruthless SOB.

Ever watched an interview with him? I can't think of another pro athlete that is as big of a fake.

well his manager was on MMAhour yesterday with Ariel Helwanni and said he may be done with MMA. I don't care of anybody's opinion on Jones, if he were to not fight again it would be a devastating loss. I would be super-bummed

ETA: also, if i am going to do a brief recent news update, Rogan has suggested Jones erratic behavior may be caused by brain injury. I'm not sure how much facts are in that statement, but it is interesting nonetheless

these are all quotes from Jones in interviews -- I found these in 3 mins with google. I'm sure there's more.

“I’ve always been a person who tries to do the right thing in life, for the most part. I'm no angel, but I was always the kid who snitched on the kids who had pot. I don't want to offend the pot smokers out there, but I was kind of just a snitch. I was just down for people doing the right thing. My parents kind of raised me to be a good guy. I've always been down for the good side, I guess.

“I’m the best looking. I’ll say I’m the most funny. I’ll say I’m the most charismatic. I’ll say I’m the most mainstream. I’ll say I’m everything and I believe it in my heart. … America and the world, they need a positive role model. “

“I credit my faith for pretty much everything that's been happening in my life. I'm a Pentecostal Christian (and) my dad's a pastor, so I've been going to church every Sunday since I was a small child…I realize all of this could be gone in a heartbeat. I try to not take any of this for granted and realize that God blessed me and he's given me these opportunities. It's just such an unlikely story. God just blessed me with a champion's mindset and confidence."

UFC senior vice president of public relations Dave Sholler confirmed the figures to MMAFighting.com.

Fighters who have between one and five fights in the UFC will make just $2,500 per fight under the tiered system. Fighters with six to 10 UFC bouts will make $5,000; 11 to 15 will get fighters $10,000; 16 to 20 fights earns $15,000; and 21 bouts and up gets a fighter $20,000. Title challengers will make $30,000 and champions will pull in $40,000.
Seems decent. Probably hurts the higher tier guys if anything.

I think that's terrible. I know a few guys who fight in the UFC and will be in varied tiers, and all of those aforementioned figures are a drop in the bucket to what they made the old way. Hell, I know guys on the regional circuit (Ring of Combat) that will pull in more than double that $2500 in sponsors for fighting on gofightlive.tv!

The UFC wants to continue to grow into this corporate enterprise and be big swinging **** with the network TV deals and mainstream apparel sponsors, but the guys who actually put on the show look like they're getting left in the dust.

Scott Jorgensen seems to be pretty happy (credited with 21 fights) Of course he's lost 5 of his last 7 fights in UFC & likely on the cusp of being cut.

I like any structure that'll get the fighters to fight. By the same token, you can bet we'll hear a commotion (sp) the first time UFC cuts a guy about to hit the next level.

Obviously understand it'd be a PR nightmare (and understand why it's done how it is), but (most) women shouldn't be getting equal pay (most) men IMO. Not that most of them will be getting paid much given the young state of women's MMA.

I assume a lot of the guys can keep deals though. If i remember correctly they have to wear the Reebok gear on fight night and maybe for that week. but i assume sponsors will be open to working with fighters outside of that. they can get creative enough. i don't know much about it, but i know some fighters seem real happy from it, and i was under the assumption that the sponsor market has dried up significantly over the last year or 2.

also, i would imagine that this deal may really help fighters outside of the UFC since it may be their only avenue to advertise. hell, i would think for some companies it would be more valuable to advertise on Spike TV through Bellator than UFC overall anyway

I think Reebok just made a really good deal financially. $70 mil over 5 years just seems really low IMO with how much UFC is expanding. With as many fights/events as their are, I'm not sure how much more fighters can expect. I'm not sure if I heard correctly, but UFC had around ~52 events last year. That number probably is only going to increase in the future.

Not a fan of not allowing the fighters to put private sponsors on the gear (or banners) at all. (That's where these guys are making the money on these sponsors-- to promote fight night with millions watching). I don't think you can compare this Reebook deal with deals with other sports. Those guys are making a ####load more money.

I imagine the Strawweight contenders/champ are jumping for joy today.

I get what you are saying, just never imagined anyone would ever take quotes like these on face value.

yeah, that doesn't look good. I know UFC came out with a statement responding to some of this and i didn't look at it yet. my guess is they say this deal is better in the long term, and that these nice paydays are going away. but yeah, you have to think how this will turn out. I do love that Mayhem Miller took the time to weigh in with his opinions though. i'm guessing he is medicated now.

but yeah, will be interesting to hear more. I know Demetrius Johnson talked a lot about it since he has that sweet deal with XBox, and i think he made it sound like this would work out fine for him

I'm watching the latest Ultimate Fighter. I am a big Tyrone Sprong fan, funny seeing him in this latest episode. Kind of guy that has no problem popping a guy in the jaw

That was my first introduction to him. I enjoyed his interview after the episode on Tuf Talk. Seems like a pretty level headed guy all things considered. I am with him by the way. Get out my gym.

On the whole, I am finding these fights pretty boring though. I feel like the last two seasons before this one were pretty weak, too. Kind of getting tired of guys seemingly not really showing us why they are really there.

Pettis out for July Fight Night against Jury.

Pettis is averaging less than 2 fights/yr (7 total fights) since first UFC fight June 2011. With his fight in couple weeks, Cerrone will have fought 7 times in the past 16 months.

nice to see them bring in Burt Watson for this. still think the guy's head got too big, but good to still see him around

and funny seeing Demacio Page doing so well. i remember him from the "Tapout" show when he was living with Chuck Lidell

another thing, first fighter comes out to Wu Tang clan. i don't know if i remember a fighter ever coming out to Wu in the UFC, and that is really weird. makes me think there is something behind that. next guy comes out to Hendricks, so i already like this better then fights they put on Spike

yeah here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_yCuod2UDQ

he is a funny guy, guy i would like on my team

I'm more interested in Shamrock and Slice than the majority of UFC fights. And you don't have to pay for it. And I'm sure it'll do a real good # on Spike like Ortiz/Bonnar.

I'll watch an event like this than pay $50-60 for a Mighty Mouse headlined card. BTW why isn't the UFC 186 buy rate available yet? As comedic as it'll be to see 50 something Shamrock vs. Bimbo, watching the likes of Bisping/Rampage and other gate keepers aren't getting my money either.

Did anyone watch TUF this week?

That was beyond gruesome. I did not know your body could do that if you drank too much water.
I wonder why he didn't just use Gatorade.

It's too bad they had to send him home. He wasn't injured and it's preventable so it's surprising that he's eliminated. I don't think they'd send someone home for the opposite problem (dehydration).
