would love to know how much of Covington is just schtick. watching the post fight conference, dude just seems to be a huge troll, and not really standing for anything that isn't just finding a way to promote for his next fight

and holy hell the MMA media has sank like the Titanic. You have John Morgan come out and lead like always with some good questions, and then it just goes to hell. a few questions every once in awhile, but what the heck happened?

I have read that he was actually a fairly normal guy at one time.  When he was told he was going to be cut by the UFC, he "invented" the current character you have seen the last many years.   Where the line crosses between the heel he portrays and what he is really like, probably will continue to blur the more he stays in character, which for him seems a 24/7 type thing.

He plays pro wrestler better than today's pro wrestler.

I love Colby. Whatever you gotta do to promote/market yourself. He brings it. And people talk about him.

Whatever your political stance aside, how many other fighters have the president on the phone postfight?

Well he IS a gullible egomaniac. So the answer is: anyone that wants to.

Agree. Never understand the hate on Colby.

Woodley had no business in there with him last night. Should have left his gloves in the octagon. They should still look and feel brand new.

yup. was watching some stuff on youtube last night and found this clip:

he deserves some credit for changing his whole persona to stay in the UFC. can't blame Colby for playing the system

:lmao:  the bolded above is going a bit far with it. Not really hard at all to see why he brings hate upon himself. He is a troll, and good at it. MMA media loves to eat up a good story, and Colby just keeps it going and plays the character very well

It works, but his shtick is more cringy than Cejudo.

I'd probably be tempted to bet on Colby vs Usman in the rematch.  I had Colby winning the fight until the final round.  He looked better than he has ever looked last night, and made easy work of Woodley.  He had a more impressive win over Woodley than Burns or Usman, and the 5th round would have been ground and pound.  Woodley's broken rib may have saved him from years of CTE.  Colby seems to be contributing a ton to his new training camp, MMA Masters, so maybe a change of scenery has improved his skills.  Chael was saying he thought they were going to switch him to a traditional stance, but he still fought southpaw most of the fight.  I'm excited to see this guys career, and there are plenty of fights to make with him besides Usman.  I think he beats Masvidal in similar fashion that Usman did.  Burns would be a good one.  I think he beats Edwards, and both Diaz bros.  I actually think the fight to make right now is Burns vs Colby despite Masvidal probably being the fight that sells the most.  But I think Burns gets Usman next.

Ummmmmmmmmmm... did you actually watch that Usman fight?

Usman took Woodley down and laid on him with ground and pound for the entire 25 minute fight.  It was a complete and utter dominance performance.

That being said, I think the Usman-Colby fight will be a coin-flip.  I can see it going either way in a competitive fight.

Arguably Colby fought a lesser, older Woodley but he had him leaking.  Those elbows split him.  I think he would have finished it properly big given the opportunity.  Usman and Gilbert both dominated him, but they didn't do the head damage.

Agreed, this is a great non-PPV card.

Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley - Bully beatdown. Hope that Woodley rage engages but Colby stops him by TKO in the 4th. Colby even thinks of easing up in the 4th to dish out more punishment in the 5th!

Donald Cerrone  vs. Niko Price - Going with youth on this one. All 30-27 decisions.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gerald Meerschaert. Chimaev time. 3rd round stoppage.

Johnny Walker vs. Ryan Spann - Walker gets back on track with 2nd round KO.

Mackenzie Dern vs. Randa Markos - Dern takes this with a decision as Markos is tough and stays in the fight.

Kevin Holland vs. Darren Stewart - Holland in decision.
damn.  nice picking.

Michael Chandler is the backup for the Gaethje/ Khabib fight. He’s pretty good, but I don’t think he’s in the same class as the top 5 UFC guys in that division.

I like the idea of the backup during these times, but I'm curious what the plan for him would be if the fight happens.  They tried to match him up with Tony & Dustin but they want each other.  I don't think he should necessarily get the winner of Khabib vs Justin either.

have to give the guy credit, he did what he had to to survive in the UFC and make a career for himself. We only have the fanbase to blame, if Colby didn't yap as much as he did now he would be just a normal guy like a Leon Edwards who didn't have much fan recognition and a dangerous fighter

That was easy money.  Not mayweather vs mcgregor easy...but pretty close.

meathead gets KTFO.  Costa was all bark and zero point zero bite

Izzy is going to start being like JJ.   If he's not moving up a weio class then meh.  Don't see anyone in his division that can win a round against him at this point.  Maybe this Khamzet kid could be the one, but right now I wouldn't bet on anyone to even get within reach of Adesanaye.

Everyone is bashing Costas game plan of waiting to counter punch.  Chael said, had no plan B.  Should have made it an ugly fight and tried to get him against the fence.  Center of octagon clearly wasn't working.
