i really have to think if i am a top fighter why in the world i would want to train at AKA. there are plenty of good gyms out there, and the rate at which guys get injured there seems to be significantly worse than other camps. i would have to think as a fighter with a limited shelf-life, you have to consider this

 
Yikes. Holloway/Pettis and Cerrone/Brown are still hot fights, but yeah, at the top of a PPV? I mean, this weekend's Whittaker/Brunson card is hot garbage, but at least they're not asking people to pay for it.

 
Brunson was just out of control all fight.

In other news, Connor relinquishes FW title and Aldo is the new champ.  Good for the UFC.  CM going for 170 now?  Why Holloway/Pettis is for the interim FW title I have no idea.

The situation was this:

Full guard, guy on bottom uses the heel of his foot to kick the lower back of guy on top in kind of a short chopping motion.  Big John was reffing the fight and immediately told the guy on the bottom to stop it.

Is there some rule (new?) that precludes this?  I seem to remember this being common, even if it always seemed a bit ineffectual.

I didn't see the specific fight.    The only thing I can think of, is if it was landing on the spine.   I've seen people throw those woodpecker-style heel kicks to the kidney and as far as I know that's legal and has been legal for a long time.  

 
I am enjoying watching Ben Nguyen's development.    He got shellacked his last fight so nice to see him rebound.     really nice hands and footwork from him.  

And that main event was pretty crazy.  seemed like Brunson spent half the fight falling forward.

I thought I read that Aldo wants out after not getting McGregor before Alvarez did

 
My understanding is ( from my 16 yr old who follows this) is that  Aldo is the champ and then the winner of Pettis/Holloway will be interim champ and at some point Aldo will fight the Pettis/Holloway winner to get a champion.....

 
Missed a good bit of Saturday's UFC card, but heard the main event was entertainingly sloppy. I did see ol' boy Dan Kelly's win over Camozzi, which was definitely entertaining and sloppy. Zero killer instinct from Camozzi.

Also, crazy scorecards in the Taylor/Ham fight. Thought Hamderlei had it 29-28, and it might've been close, but two 30-27s for Taylor is bananas.

 
Isn't Aldo's title already an interim belt? Or did that one magically become real now that Conor was stripped? What's next, intercontinental tag team champions?

 
Maybe I'm a sucker for buying into Jeff Borris's slick talk, but I'm more in interested in seeing representation by the PFA.

Yeah, I've heard that about him too. To play devil's advocate, that was when his job was to take care of Bellator as a company first, while now, no such conflict exists. He also knows the industry, and my level of respect for him has gone up in the wake of the Coker quick cash grab circus that has gone on since. He built a pretty good product with the tournament format and home-growing talent and avoided the Kimbo-Dada and Shamrock-Gracie nonsense that is going on now.

Even if we blame bellator, the way the situation with Alvarez went was just terrible. So many missteps and it seems thAt was what cost Bjorn his job. 

I jave heard it has more to do with the fighters being involved all being a part of some competitor to the new UFC ownership (CAA or something)

Many / most of the fighters involved are under contract with the UFC though.

Yeah it has something to do with whatever mgmt company Gsp has. Maybe they are pushing a fighter union to f with this we mgmt who knows. Just can't imagine the fighters all of a sudden got organized for a union, especially considering the mix of fighters and how other outspoken fighters in the past aren't involved. 

 
The pettiness and cheapness of the UFC continues to astound me.

JoJo made a post on her facebook talking about how training is eating into her savings and that she wanted to go to the next set of fights to support her teammates and when she asked for a ticket to the event, the UFC told her she had to buy one.

How many tickets should the UFC give away? Should every fighter under contract get one? Should every fighter who trains with someone on the card get one? Should every fighter on the card get some they can give away?

Both are accurate. Incredibly cheap but there has to be a line drawn somewhere.

I would think they would do something similar to other sports.  Some tickets for families of fighters, etc.  NYC must have been a hard ticket to score, even the Diaz bros got stiffed.

Actually, she was told to ask Dana as he approves comps. And she's asking for a 206 ticket, so I would guess there will be plenty of comps available.

The UFC does provide tickets for those fighting on the cards itself.  This is a different situation though where it is a fighter who is not appearing on the card wanting a ticket for herself.

I guess I could understand this if the UFC was selling every single seat but it is my understanding that most events are far from sellouts.  

In many cases they are not really losing any money by giving tickets to fighters.  And you have to figure only a handful of fighters are going to want a single ticket to any one specific event so you are talking at most maybe 25 tickets in arenas that have plenty of empty seats.

Maybe they could put in a policy that there are no comps for near sold out events?  I could understand a policy like that.

the one thing that discredits it a bit is that all the guys involved are represented by the main competitor to the new UFC owners. And this "MMA Association" is only focusing on the UFC? it's kind of silly, but i guess these things have to start somewhere

I haven't listened to the entire press conference yet but I hope they have some very smart people on the back end overseeing things. 

 
I don't know what to think since the call wasn't made public and all you have is twitter recounts, which seems to be obviously subjective. I like the idea of suggesting a strike. Oh no, you are telling me Cain Velasquez, Ted Kennedy and GSP may go on strike? I honestly think no one would notice. And it seems that all 3 guys have very different reasons why they haven't been fighting as much

seems like Rebney though his role is as a "strategist" and the fighters are supposedly running it. And it is all being funded by "some people".  :ph34r:

I love Jojo with all my heart; I would feed her pizza then do bad things to her. But either she has a terrible contract that pays her squat, or she spends all her money on who know what. Cuz I've seen her auction off Reebok fight kit and memorabilia on FB for money, and it makes me sad.

I have no idea what the contracts are like or how the sponsorship works.  I read she got paid $2500 for the Rebook part of her deal two fights ago.

She got paid $25k for the last fight she had.
