UFC wagering: no longer stuck with the old thread title. The window to change it is here! (7 Viewers)

Pettis just outclassed. No clue how he'd have a chance vs. Cejudo anywhere. Rogan telling him to 'just go for it'....yeah and Cejudo would take his head off. Him shooting on Cejudo at the end :lmao:

Cejudo is very good. Just not DJ good right now.

Total déjà vu. Aldo can hang when the fight's going at his pace, but when Holloway forces him into his fight, Aldo just isn't made to trade shot for shot with him. Huge difference in volume. Really frustrating 'cause I STILL thought Aldo should've been kicking more. His boxing and head movement are so sharp, but in terms of a varied arsenal, it feels like he's actually regressed in recent years.

It ain't even all about that, though. Holloway's just hella good.

Bummer to watch Aldo go out like this.  Sorry Abrantes.
:sadbanana:

He's not even that old, but yeah. Dude's got a lot of wear on his tires from the fights and the intense training at Nova União. Still an all-time great and one of my all-time favorites, even if he never fights again - and I frankly don't see what would be left for him. Clawing his way back to another title shot? Lord knows when they'd give him another one after losing to Holloway twice in near-identical fashion.

Studs and duds.

But, not him.  This is some old 4chan ####post from a Russian guy telling a story about where were you heath Leger died. One of those things that is just weird when you read but then each random reference and twist down the road gets funnier every time.

i missed most f the pre-fight stuff with Gaethje-Alvarez, but Justin was getting way too big of a head. Funny hearing him say Eddie will run away and isn't in his league.

Agreed, he was doing some great countering of his slips but was just smothered by volume

Alvarez's body shots were a thing of beauty last night.  A couple of sweet uppercuts and a 4-3 combo to the body that hit in such quick succession I'm surprised it didn't knock the wind out of him.

yeah i'm glad he won, and hopefully UFC fans can understand why Eddie has been loved by MMA fans for years. He had a funny interview with Ariel for MMA hour too, i do like how Ariel comes off like an old girlfreind in the clip:

As an aside, has anyone else who illegally streams the fights noticed that the UFC seems to never shut them down any more?  The feeds from 5-7 years ago would get shut down as soon as the UFC could find them forcing you to jump to a new low one which was almost always crap quality.

Now we have a reddit site which publicly lists perfect HD streams of PPV's and they stay up for the whole fight.

Several European sports streaming sites shared here in recent years are still up and running. I watch all the PPVs and prelims in near HD quality and barely 2 seconds of buffering at the start.

the quality is fantastic.  Are there new rules that make it such that the Ufc can no longer block the broadcast as they could in years past or do you think they simply bean counted and said it is not worth it?

I think it's too much work for them to find and shut down all the streamers. None of the other major sports are targeting the sites either so the UFC may figure it's a lost cause.

I think the broadcasters themselves would shut those streams down so you had to click another link and they'd get more ad/click revenue from the 50 billion popups you'd have to fight off.

Yeah, I have adblocker for my browser and still have a bunch of windows to close before viewing. I can't see the actual ads, but there's still tiny Xs to click.

What are you having issues with?
I stream to my PC on Chrome, but any video player that doesn't incorporate chromecast capabilities has to be casted via the browser and it's rather choppy on the TV. I read a little about the problem and it's because of the transfer/reception frequency (or something) used by chromecast. I don't know if the newer chromecast models have the same issue.

I have mentioned earlier how I have grown to hate the forced and sometimes fake animosity between fighters.  It makes them look like cartoon characters.  Watching Gaethje and Alvarez act like normal human beings was refreshing.

As such I think this gif rules

not sure if this should go here, or in the Wagering Thread, but here it is:

going to my first UFC event this weekend in Fresno, and am looking to do a little DFS to keep things "interesting" throughout the night. for the record, i know absolutely zero about MMA/UFC, so a few questions:

- is there an advantage of one style over another, e.g. Jujitsu vs Ground and Pound?
- experience vs youth: young guys kicking more ash than older guys?
- looking at this card, any standouts that should be on my roster for the night? any underdogs that have a decent shot?

>>>>is there an advantage of one style over another

No.  In the early days there was -- Very few people in the USA knew about BJJ in the 1990s so the Gracies came in and wrecked ####.   That time is long gone.  So much cross training is required to get to even get decent at the regional level that the idea that one "style" will be better than others is not realistic anymore.

>>>>experience vs youth: young guys kicking more ash than older guys?
Same as any other sport.   Speed and stamina is worth something, but so's experience and composure.

>>>> looking at this card, any standouts that should be on my roster for the night? any underdogs that have a decent shot?

The main event (Swanson vs Ortega) is basically a pick em right now.   I really like Ortega.  Swanson is a REALLY skilled veteran but has almost likely reached his peak as an upper tier gatekeeper type -- Ortega is still on the rise and looks better and better all the time.  Tough one to call but I'd lean towards Ortega

Another interesting one will be Moraes / Sterling.   Currently Moraes is a very slight favorite but this could go either way.  Both fighters have lost splt decisions recently to Raphael Assuncao (a top 3-5 guy in his weight class)  Moraes is a very good Muay Thai guy and Sterling is good all around but have to think Sterling wants this to be a wrestling grind rather than a standup match.   Sterling may get KTFOd but it's just as likely he could top-game dominate his way to victory.

I'm just some dip#### so don't get mad when all my STONE COLD LOCKS OF THE WEEK OF THE CENTRUY picks result in your drained 401k account.

Have fun at the show, check in on this thread after and tell us about it.

i haven't looked much into the card and may try if i get a chance. Moraes trains with Eddie and Frankie regularly so i am thinking he can handle Sterling's wrestling, but if i remember correctly this is a pretty quick turn around for Moraes. I am a big Moraes fan so probably leaning too much in his direction, but i like his chances.

just looked and it looks like some good fights on this one

GSP vacates middleweight title. Whitaker's crowned champ. May be the last we see of him. He definitely didn't belong at 185 long term. I only think a fight with Conor brings him back. Him w/o a title probably makes it less appealing to Conor.

In other news, Whitaker vs. Rockhold announced for one of their upcoming cards.

Least-shocking move ever. He belongs at 170 if he fights again.
