they just told the reporters at the live press conference to go get something to eat and come back at 2:30. They might have a resolution at that time.

You can't seriously have a title fight. Get Nate Diaz, or Ortega to just step in as a money fight. Pay Khabib whatever his price is.

Not a realistic option. The NYSAC would never sanction anyone this close to the card. They will only accept someone who has already been listed as fighting this weekend. Texas might, but not New York and not any legitimate athletic commission.

Only fight that has any appeal to me of the options. Not sure I'll even tune in if this isn't the fight. He should be the 1st,2nd and 3rd choice to fill in. He's going to attract more interest than Pettis in a fight in NY.
Pettis might have the worst takedown defense in MMA. Really not even sure he's UFC caliber at this point. Being ranked at all at this point is solely based on whatever name value he has left IMO

Iaquinta said right after the Barboza fight talking pretty high of Khabib. He wasn't saying he was scared, but was basically saying he would need to make a lot more than what Barboza got paid to step inside the octogon with Khabib. He must be getting paid what he wants.
I really like Raging Al. Big fan of both of his Twitter accounts. I think he has a better chance vs Khabib than most people probably will give him. He has a wrestling background, so should be able to survive. He could be one of the most accurate punchers along side Conner in the division. Should be similar to Michael Johnson vs Khabib, who did land a few nice punches.

Pettis is on a rough stretch but 3 of his recent lossewere to world champions and the other were to high level contenders. He's got some stuff to figure out and he clearly is not what he was 5 years ago, but he still demolishes anyone outside the top ten.

sounds like we agree then. I'm not trying to nitpick, but there's a big difference between a gatekeeper and "not UFC material". The UFC has to have 10 or 15 gatekeepers in each division because there's 50 nobodies (for lack of a better non-pejorative) below them on the roster.

I read something about his shorts weighing .2 pounds. Per Dana White.
Pettis was 155.2 (same as Al) but was going to be given 2 extra hours to try and make weight. Was Al given this same opportunity? Because his fight was supposed to be canceled due to Felder was to fight Khabib. So there may be some chance that the UFC can make the argument that between the shorts and the extra 2 hours normally given that Al would’ve made weight.

From what I read, Al left the weigh in (which was for his Pettis fight) and had already eaten and re hydrated before being approached for the main event, so he was already way over at that point. Pettis hadn't eaten or re hydrated yet when he was approached, which was before Al was.

If all went according to the UFC’s plans, this week was supposed to unfold in a dramatically different way for Conor McGregor and the company.
According to UFC sources, the promotion was close to coming to terms with McGregor on a new contract this week, though several stumbling blocks remained.
Regardless, UFC brass were hopeful they would be able to finalize a new deal with the Irish superstar and thus announce his long-awaited return at the 25th anniversary press conference Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
In fact, once Tony Ferguson was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury from his UFC 223 fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov on Sunday, a plan was floated to remove Khabib Nurmagomeov from the card and have him face Conor McGregor later this year.
The UFC ultimately decided against that idea and moved ahead with booking Max Holloway vs. Nurmagomedov.
Once that fight was booked, another plan discussed was to book Conor McGregor vs. Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight title in the spring, though McGregor and the UFC had to come to terms on a new contract first.
So while McGregor did eventually fly to Brooklyn in hopes of defending his friend Artem Lobov after Lobov was cornered by Nurmagomedov and members of his team on Tuesday, he was also coming in good faith to attempt to finalize his new contract and his return fight.
“We were actually working on a deal and a new plan for him,” UFC president Dana White said on Friday’s episode of “Get Up!” on ESPN.
Of course, those plans were scrapped once McGregor and members of his team were caught on camera vandalizing a minibus following Thursday’s UFC 223 media day, which led to McGregor and SBG teammate Cian Cowley getting arrested later that evening and charged with multiple misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief charges.
McGregor and Cowley posted bail on Friday and are planning on returning to Ireland in the coming days. They are due back in court on June 14. McGregor has retained veteran litigator Jim Walden to represent him in the case.
So, as the week wraps up, McGregor’s new deal is now on ice, his next fight remains unknown, dos Anjos vs. Colby Covington was finally announced, though moved to UFC 225 in Chicago, and someway, somehow, Nurmagomedov ended up getting booked against New York’s own Al Iaquinta after Holloway was deemed medically unfit to fight by the New York State Athletic Commission and attempts to book Nurmagomedov against Anthony Pettis and Paul Felder fell through.
A week unlike any in UFC history — for many of the wrong reasons — had great potential to actually end on the highest of notes with the face of the sport making his triumphant return.
Unfortunately for all involved, that return will now have to wait.

So now that Al is fighting Khabib, which I’m not too stoked about, Felder has nobody to fight. I actually love watching Felder fight, so this blows even harder.
