Gotta give it to her, ever since she shaved her head she's a beast. I had it 38-38 going into the 5th and 48-47 after, but she's deserving.

Think we see her vs. Kowalkiewicz next, don't see any other fight that makes sense.

 
I don't know what Joe is talking about... I haven't seen jabbing like that since GSP vs Koscheck. 

How do you blow this guy through the whole intro and then hate on him while he is dominating.  

Joe is dumb. 

 
Iaquinta did a great job surviving.  Khabib wins again, but is still having trouble finishing ower ranked opponents.  This just confuses the division even more imo.

I'm not sure how it's possible an undefeated guy continues his undefeated streak and wins a world title and sees his stock go down, but I think it just happened.

He dominates in a very unspectacular way.....he should dominate and stop a guy like Laquinta ...not struggle ...hes supposed to be on a different level

I don't get it.   I wasn't a huge Kabib guy to begin with, so all the superlatives kind of made me shrug, going in... But he mopped the ring with that guy.  

Joe Rogan: "So what Kabib is out punching this guy 123 to 18 significant strikes.... The 19th could be The One!"

Ok guy! How do you compare a guy to Muhammad Ali coming down the isle, then say some idiotic stuff like that? 

Yea, his head movement and standup defense is bad... Yet he hasn't left a drop of his own blood in the cage in 26 fights? 

I don't get it.

At what point did he struggle in that fight?   

I think he decided to turn it into a sparring match in rds 3 and 4. Just look how he turned up the intensity at the end of round 5.  He was a cat toying with a mouse that whole fight. 

Joe talking like the book is now somehow out on how to beat Khabib after he just manhandled poor Al.  Wtf

I think it's clear he shifted gears in Rd 3 and turned it into a sparring match where he flicked 100s of jabs from his waistline.  Did you notice how fast he sliced past Al's guard and took the mount in Rd 2?  Al did a good job defending the single leg ankle shots later on, but pretty sure Khabab could've snatched up a body lock and swept-slammed him at any point and gone for a sub.  He wanted a 25 min fight, IMO

Probably because he's a great fighter who was scheduled to fight someone else on that card.

It was a walk in the park.  And he treated it that way, taking rds 3 and 4 to flick waistline jabs that turned his face to hamburger.

cruising and taking it easy on guys doesnt help a fighters pay stock ...makes them look boring and average ...he needs to smash someone like Al ..especially after going 5 rds his previous fight...hes beyond boring to watch as it is

He just won the title belt. Pretty sure his pay stock is higher than it's ever been.  And I don't think it'd be significantly higher had he finished that RNC in Rd 2. 

I'm more impressed that he dominated the rest of the fight on the feet. I already know he can choke people. 

Al should've left it all out there in Rd 1.  His strategy sucked IMO

i always say Khabib is  beast who mauls people ...id love to see him beat someone fast just to prove he can

 
The areas where Khabib showed holes in his game last night are (on paper, anyway) the things that El Cucuy has the skills take advantage of.   I'm not here to #### on Khabib and me saying his stock went down is because I don't recall him looking that stiff when boxing before.  He's still clearly a killer, but he looks a little less invincible than he did to me in previous fights.  

It's not a knock, just an observation.  

 
I thought Al got his attention more than once after Khabib decided to spar. Clearly overmatched, Al survived. Huge props. If you don’t think Khabib was trying to finish the fight in rounds 1&2 and late, I’ll just have to disagree with you.

Rogan didn’t have his best night. While I’m not going to agree Al showed us the book on Khabib, he did provide 25 new min of fighting which took place all over the mat. There are takeaways. Ferg and others benefited.

No disagreement there. What about that other 14 min though? 

If some fighter out there thinks he found an unexposed hole in Bibi's game after that one sided ### blasting he just dished out, more power to them, I guess.   The next round he loses in the UFC will be his first.

I think those minutes are most interesting -- all stand up, defending takedowns, and championship rounds -- and the more I think about it, I think I agree with you that Khabib wanted to go into the championship rounds AFTER the 2nd round ended.  I'm not sure its all about finding a "hole" either, I don't think Al exposed anything.  If it ended early with ground domination and Al not landing 40+ strikes (not sure how that measures up with Khabib's past), the narrative is different today.  I'm not saying Khabib isn't a beast, he is very much one.  

Has Khabib fought anyone with as much of a reach advantage as Ferg will have?  Edson is the closest that I can think of but I think we all agree he's not Ferg.  It could be very interesting.

 
I’m a Rogan fan but he had a bad night last night. I don’t think he really added much value to the fights. Usually, he’s good with pointing out things that people might miss then explains why that is important and to advance or defend that thing. But last night he was more of a “dude bro” than anything.

Maybe his stand up comedian persona is starting to clash with his UFC commentator persona  :P

 
I wouldn't say Khabib was toying with him at any point.  Al was looking good in round 4.  The flying knee into the clinch in round 5 was really smart by Khabib.  He knew he would win the decision, so just hold onto him for the remainder.  I don't buy much into the "outpunching" & statistics.  Khabibs jab didn't look too effective.  It wasn't like an Iaquinta jab that knocked down Kevin Lee.

Huge credit for Al going 5.  Training to go 25 min strong vs 15 is a big deal.  Khabib even was saying it in his post fight, that he wants to stay trained for 5 rnd fights.  There must be major training adjustments.

 
Rogan and Jimmy made this Khabib thing over blown by saying things like “Al is writing the book on how to beat Khabib right now”. Which is really dumb because Al got dominated on the ground for the first two rounds. Then got his nose busted up from jabs for two rounds. Then got a bit of both for the last round. If the book on Khabib is to go into survival mode and hope you land a bomb then that’s a pretty bad book.

Obviously, Khabib displayed weaknesses but it’s difficult to put them into true context. His striking looked sloppy (chin up, hands down, heavy hooks that weren’t that close, etc) and his shoots seemed poorly timed later on. I wouldn’t say that he gassed but I think the first two rounds took more out him than he was expecting. However, he may have been trying to bait Al into getting more aggressive because Al was in such a wide power stance trying to be ready for the take down. If any fighter tries this I’m sure it will go poorly for them too since that hinders a fighters movement and striking so much.

It is insanely rare to have a fighter as dominant as @khabib_nurmagomedov. In one of the most talent stacked divisions to go 25 and 0 is incredible, but to do it without even having a rough moment in a fight is completely unheard of.
The closest thing to adversity he’s had to face in the Octagon before Saturday was one solid punch that was landed by Michael Johnson in a fight that was otherwise a horrifically one-sided mauling. When I’m commentating on someone that dominant I am constantly looking for cracks in their armor, and on Saturday night we saw the first of those cracks exposed by an incredibly game Al Iaquinta. 
Most people, myself included, expected the highly favored Khabib to rag doll his last minute opponent the way he’s done to everyone else he faced in the Octagon, and that was the case in the early going, but as the fight got into the later rounds Al was able to keep the fight standing and we saw some possible flaws in Khabib’s defense. Make no mistake about it, Khabib won that fight by a landslide, but it went to a decision, and that in and of itself was an upset.
When I’m looking at a fighter as spectacularly talented as Khabib fighting a guy like Al who is an almost impossible underdog I’m not just looking at this fight, but I’m looking at openings that can possibly be exploited by the best fighters in the division. I saw some of those openings Saturday night, and I certainly found them interesting. In no way am I biased against Khabib, in fact I’m a massive fan of his and he’s one of my all time favorite fighters. If any of you were annoyed by my concentrating on that aspect of an incredibly dominant performance by one of the most impressive guys in the history of the division, please accept my sincere apology.
When I commentate on fights my goal is to highlight the action and make it more exciting for the fans at home. Obviously all this is done live in real time, and if I had to go back and do it again I would often be able to do a better job. Even after all the years I’ve been commentating I still learn something new about the position with each and every event, and when that stops happening that will most likely be when I quit.

she was so much better than I expected.  If they can find some one to speak for her, she should have a great second career there.

Now we just need to keep Edmund away :)

She looked extremely uncomfortable in moments she had been in non wrestling situations and a bit clumsy in the few times the story line allowed her to be physical.

There were many reasons why expectations were low. 

I said in the wrestling thread, she may have had one of the best pure debut's ever in wrestling.

Good to hear all of this about the in ring debut.  If they use her right, and that's a big IF with the WWE, and she's in for more than a few nice paydays, she's got a high ceiling. 

Any rumblings of her going with Heyman?  Seems like a perfect fit, at least for a while.
