Local news was brutal in their handling of this...
Early headlines blaring about "Memphis based large military craft crashing". The only memphis-based craft of that type are the C-17s flown by the TN Air Guard. A lot of my best buddies are in that unit (pilots/loadmasters/etc), and they were getting absolutely lit up with texts/messages checking on them.... families freaking out...etc. They, themselves freaking out that they may have lost buddies.
Eventually word spread it was a C-130 out of Arkansas and things died down but the inaccurate reporting created a bit of chaos here initially.
My heart goes out to the families of those on the plane that went down... I almost feel bad for being relieved to hear it wasn't a C-17.
FWIW the C-130 has one of the best operational safety records in the military.
