Ugh... 1st Auction Goes Haywire (1 Viewer)

12 Team Mixed 5X5 Keeper (7) Live Draft... had computer issues throughout and generally spent half my time lost as to who had been grabbed for what..etc. To my credit I was starting from scratch with a ####ty team and there was a good bit of inflation in pitching with LOTS of young studs kept for cheap.

Got lotsa power... will struggle in AVG (punted)/SB (Outrageous sums were going for SB.. going to hope to trade for speed midseason). Targeted a $200/$60 split.

I know I overpaid on some guys but there was a good bit of inflation and I was fighting with the damn PC the whole time.

The Team I ended up with:

C: McCann - $16

1B: Berkman - $23

2B: Utley - $38

SS: Lugo - $5 (needed speed badly)

3B: Atkins - $21

CI: B Ryan - $3

MI: K Masui - $2

OF: Manny - $31

OF: Adam Jones: $1

OF: J Hamilton $6 or something?

UT: Sheffield: $13

P: Pedro $11 (I think/hope he'll be mostly healthy)

Pitching sucks, Saves were a rip... file with prices paid messed up.. .will have actual prices tomm)

Gambled on a lot of SP hoping one or two break and contribute

The Hamilton bid stood out to me. He just went for $23 in an auction I did last night.

No doubt.. hamilton was a steal and Ill be keeping him for 2 years at that price.. then 11/16 after that. I'm pretty happy with that. I don't feel that I terribly overpaid for anyone in particular. I did good to pick up ~80 saves for $15 considering guys like papelbon and nathan were going for $27. I'lll have to flesh out that with some WW aquisitions but Saves are typically easy to find.

I'm worried about wins, SB, and AVG mostly... I'm hoping to deal some power for speed once I jump out early there.... Ideally it will be either Andruw or Adam to help level out that average a bit. Even if not... I had read about a strategy where you can all but punt average and get some mashers (K Greene, A Dunn, A Jones, etc) for much cheaper than if they were weilding .300 averages.

Regarding Adam Jones in the OF.. that was actually $2 and I just got caught trying to bid someone up a bit as the crowd seemed to indicate that the guy who threw him out was very into him as a keeper. I an new to this league so I'm not privy to the tendencies unfortunately. I can replace him with an easy $3 pickup off the WW if need be.

I am absolutely psyched about getting Kershaw on my reserve list.... With our contract rules his salary will play out like this over the next 7 years (assuming I don't activate him this year... if I do, move everything up a year):

$0 / $3 / $3 / $8 / $13 / $18 / $23

I had somewhat viewed this year as a bit of a rebuilding year but wanted to grab a few good keepers at great value (ie Hamilton, Kershaw) in the event I fall out early. If so, I've got several guys like Manny / Utely that will draw great prospects from contenders looking to make a run.

Oh... and regarding Sheff.. I'm a litle higher on him than most I guess... I think he's still a 20 HR / 15 SB / .280 guy and he should get some R/RBI in that offense.
