Uh oh. Porter's silence has been broken (1 Viewer)

This is so forced and contrived as to be beyond pathetic. The disrespect shtick is beyond tired even under the most appropriate circumstances, but my god this is sad and embarassing. It's a good thing Porter makes his living with his body because he does not have the mental acuity needed to beat a paramecium in a battle of wits.

I dont care so long as it keeps working. ;)

I remember Greg Lloyd running his mouth before the Super Bowl with the Cowboys. It wasn't Aikman or Novacek who he called out that shut him up. It was Nate Newton twice on the first series. He flat buried Lloyd. The first one is my favorite play from that entire Super Bowl. Squish and ouch and very funny. On the next series it was Larry Allen-- pow. Lloyd was barely heard from ever again in the history of civilization.

I'm sure Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson are taking notes. This could be it for Porter. ;)
After that first quarter, the Steelers defense led by Lloyd dominated the vaunted Cowboys offense for the rest of the game. Lloyd was a Bad man!

I think the Seahawks are privately extremely cheesed off as a team at the enormous amount of disrespect they are getting nationwide. I did catch a bit of Jim Rome the other day - and he basically said the Seahawks had no business even there and to just lose and go away. Its one thing to get that much disrespect if you are a mediocre team, but the Seheawks are elite and they know it.I bet the Seahawks will never be more focused for a game than Super Bowl XL and they are gonna beat the snot out of the Steelers.

Dominated as in let Emmitt score 2 second half TD's?

I agree with you. I don't know if they trounce em', but they could.

Who else wants to see Porter try to go after the 6'7 265lb Stevens?  A 6'7 265lb guy with problems with violence...
Dude, the guy went out of his way to find the Ravens team bus, so that he could get Ray Lewis out of it, and fight him. And this only a few weeks after he was shot -- he wasn't even back on the field. :lmao: He's nuts.
And OVER-RATED ..... 3rd best linebacker on Pittsburghs team. Porter couldn't carry Lofa's Jock! :excited: :goodposting:

Memories paint the corners of my mind, misty water colored memories...(vid highlights)

Lloyd's stat line was 2 solos, 3 assists, one missed interception right in his hands. His solos were 6 and 4 yards down the field, and he was blown out of the play on Emmitt's 4 yard td run, not to mention the other times I've mentioned. He was stopped cold blitzing all day. The announcer says, "We haven't mentioned Greg Lloyd today," In the 3rd quarter after he misses a tackle. Kirkland, Greene, Steed, Buckner, Brown, Woodson-- warriors that day. It's one of the few Super Bowls where the team who won in the trenches lost the game.

Lloyd was a target and he got hit.

So was Larry Brown! :excited:

But this is a :hijacked: sorry.

I have been thinking about Super Bowl XXX all week though. There are several similarities in the teams, and I hope Cowher is better this Sunday than he was 10 years ago (when my bitterness from the 70s was finally requited).

Shocking!!

I think TO runs his mouth to pump himself up more than anything else. I'm not a big fan of that but, whatever. As long as he keeps playing the way he's played the last couple of months he can run his mouth all he wants.
:o

Yeah, because Porter has caused just as much trouble and dissension on the Steelers as TO has in SF and Philly.

Stevens just got OWNED
Let's see... Stevens: Bettis is a great player and has had a great career but we think we're going to win and despite ALL the hype about his heartwarming story, it won't end happily for him. Porter is a great player and had a great post season run, but hasn't had to face th best lineman in the league yet and will not be getting to the QB as much as he'd like.

Porter: He's a first round bust, I'm gonna lay him flat on his back, he had a crap year with only a couple of good plays.

Who came out as the #######? Porter was just chomping at the bit to lay into anything and he takes complimentary statements and claims the Seahawks drew first verbal blood. The only one owned is Porter. Give him enough rope...

Nothing but a cut rate TO wannabe. Stevens isn't even going to get a chance to take on Porter because Jones and Hutch are going to be so far up his ### he'll need to have them surgically removed after the game.

The Steelers are loaded with lots of players that are all class. I've got tons of respect for Bettis and Ward.Porter? If I were a Pittsburgh homer I would be embarrassed.

Yeah, he's our little problem child, and our medical doesn't cover ritalin. So long as it doesn't turn into a team-wide thing (and after several years of his mouth, it hasn't), I don't mind. I still like the way he plays, but I preferred Lloyd myself. Hines, Bettis, El and Polomalu are more my type. Quiet, good natured, well spoken and will kick the #### out of you on the field.

Didn't you make this very same prediction the last 3 playoff games the Steelers played? Blind squirrel, nut I guess eh?

:goodposting: If anybody is getting bulletin board material out of this, it is the Seahawks. Basically Porter is insulted that the Seahawks believe they can win.

If either team needs "bulletin board material" to get up for the Super Bowl then they are in big trouble...
Clearly Porter does. Actually, I think he almost came out and said it.

Yeah, what is Stevens supposed to say? That he thinks his team is going to lose? Maybe he didn't have to mention Bettis by name and how his career will end on a downnote (if Seattle wins), but maybe he is like me and is tired of a backup RB being one of the main focuses of this year's Super Bowl. Sure, Bettis has had a great career and him playing the Super Bowl in his hometown is a nice story, but the media is beating it to death, which is not at all surprising.

Bah. Earlier this week Porter was saying how all the media was against them during the playoffs then Stevens makes a remark and he jumps on that. You stick a microphone in Porter's face he is going to talk, that is just how he is. Who said what before the game will make no difference at all after kickoff. It all comes down to which team plays better this Sunday.

Get used to it. Porter's point is that Stevens is the last guy who should be talking considering how shaky his career has been, not that the Seahawks can't win it. Another thing to realize is that the media has been baiting Porter all week so they'd have a story. From the link below...

There was the reference to the Seahawks, 4-point underdogs and who have claimed that nobody respects them. Hey, did you pay the Steelers a royalty for singing that tune?

"That's all wrong," Porter declared. "They were picked to go to the Super Bowl a long time ago, so there's no way they can really feel like that. We took the scenic route to get here. We were supposed to be out way before we played Cincinnati, way before we played Indy, so there's no way they can really, truly say that."

And Seattle's public plans to hold a victory parade Tuesday?

"You don't want to come to the Super Bowl and think about losing. I can't be mad about that. I have my parade in my head, how I would plan it. ... It's a secret."

BGP picks the Steelers to get beat? Wow!!!!We've already established that Cowher can't coach and the Steelers have been lucky to win each round of the playoffs. We've also established that Roethlisberger's not playing very well and the Browns are a far more entertaining franchise to root for in his opinion.

So now the Seahawks will be so focused that they'll beat the snot out of the Steelers? :lmao: Both teams will be extremely focused and the better team will win the game. If the Seahawks win, it'll be because they're a better team, not because they're more focused or because of Joey Porter and Jeramy Stevens running their mouths.

I see almost no chance at all of the Steelers getting beat badly, though.

Porter? If I were a Pittsburgh homer I would be embarrassed.
:goodposting: The last Steeler to exhibit such a lack of class was Kordell claiming "sometimes the best team doesn't win" after the Patriots won the 2001 AFC Championship in the Burgh.

That year, Slash was correct.

Tru dat. This has happened four times to the Vikings as well.

Embarassed isn't the right word. Not embarassed at all.Frustrated because I just wish he'd shut up. However, the way he's been playing for the past 2 months, it's hard to find much fault with him. Maybe he's just a player who plays better when he's pissed off, and he's just manufacturing a stupid reason to get mad. Either way, who really cares?

What Stevens said is no bigger a deal than when Jerome Bettis said they'll be coming back to Pittsburgh with one for the thumb at the pep rally last Friday. You stick a microphone in any players' face and ask them about the game, they'll say they're going to win.

Even though it means the same thing, I think you irritate the other team when you say they are going to lose, moreso than when you say that you are going to win. Subtle difference, but still a difference.

Doesn't Bettis at least need one Super Bowl for a finger before he thinks about putting one on his thumb? I understand the reference to the "one for the thumb" comment from the 70's, but for a player with no Super Bowl rings to be saying that is dumber than anything Stevens said.

He's making reference to the Steelers franchise's thumb, not him specifically.Yes, the Steelers franchise has hands.

It wasn't about being "correct", it was about showing class. And it was nice to see Kordell's comments on the video screen at the new Gillette Stadium as the Pats pounded the Steelers on opening night 2002. After every Patriots TD, they replayed the clip.

:lmao:

That comment was for the fans. You know, the ones at the freezing cold pep rally.

I am aware of that. That is why I said I understood the reference. The hypocrisy of the media is overwhelming, though. I saw several talking heads on ESPN say yesterday that Stevens shouldn't have said what he said, but I guess it is okay for Bettis to talk about getting "one for the thumb", right? In other words, when a player the media loves (Bettis or Namath back in the day) says their team is going to win, that is A-OK, but when a player the media doesn't care about (Stevens) does the same thing, it is suddenly wrong.

I can see it now...Roethlisberger will throw for 277 yards and 1 touchdown, Bettis will carry the ball 16 times for 39 and score 2 touchdowns and the media will give the MVP award to Bettis.

 I think we need an "amen, brother" smilie.

Shouldn't Porter be less concerned with Stevens, and more concerned with "protecting this house"?

I am neither a Steelers fan nor a 'Hawks fan. I have been pulling for the Steelers in this game, but every time porter opens his mouth I lean a bit the other way.jackass

Today Porter said something along the lines of "The Steelers are going to be so physical and hitting so hard, Seattle is going to want to go home." Or something like that. Seattle hasnt seen anything even close to the Steelers' D all year. My prediction:Pain. :towelwave:

He said hes turning it into a "hatred" game, and Pittsburgh is gonna make as many Seahawks "tap out" as possible. He said he wants to send as many of them to the sidelines as possible. He went on and on and on and on and on and on and on about Stevens, and how he plans on trying to hurt opposing players. What a tool.
