Undercover Boss (1 Viewer)

This series is premiering after the super bowl. I think the best leaders are the visionaries, but the visionaries often suck when they are a regular member of work crew, so they all-to-often go unnoticed. The workaholic of the work crew often gets wrongly promoted into the leadership role, leading to all kinds of problems.

So, I wouldn't be surprised to find a lot of bosses look embarrassingly bad when they have to be a peon, unless they were the type that got wrongly promoted.

yeah, that's probably true.

but i just wanted to say i'm *shocked* this is the best they could come up with for right after the super bowl. they usually reserve that spot for the season premiere of one of their most popular shows. and i could see them using it for the *series* premiere of something that is wildly anticipated. but for this? unless i'm *really* underestimating the appeal of this show, this seems like a horrible scheduling decision.

I loved it. I think that it is very easy to not understand the decisions you make in higher levels or to be out of touch with the reality of what some employees face on a daily basis. This is a great way for these executives to get a sense of what is really going on.

I thought it was a decent show . . . some real good stories. It did feel like a big commercial for Waste Management though. Would have liked to see some real screwoffs featured as well.

Looks like you will get a better taste of that next week with Hooters.

Hooters episode should be good, the guy running a restaurant looked like a real idiot.

Didn't watch it. But I want to know, what was the cover story for the camera crew?
Something about the guy coming in to see what it's like to work at the company. So it's not totally realistic since the employees are probably on good behavior.Great show though. Hooters next week should be good.

Thought it was ok, but what are the chances that a female employee would invite some 1 day male temp worker over her house for dinner the first day they met? Seems a little staged.

I enjoyed the show but don't understand how the owner/president/undercover employee had sympathy for the one woman who punched back in from lunch and then proceeded to sit back down and continue her lunch while she should have been going back to work. She said she only gets a "30 minute" lunch break and will be docked 2 minutes of pay for each 1 minute that she is late returning from lunch. What am I missing here? I can understand that the policy of having your pay "docked" and that should be changed, but I can't understand her sitting back down to eat after punching the clock to "return" back to work. Anyway, looking forward to the Hooters episode next week, looks like the manager of that restaurant might be in a little trouble from the clips that were shown.

What was really bs was that the recycling center manager is just following corporate guidelines in terms of clock in/out procedures. They wanted to make "Kevin" the bad guy for the 2 min dock for 1 min late policy when I'm sure he is just following orders.

can we do this with congress to get them back in touch with America?
Would you really want any of them working with you or in your company? One day would be all that most of them would need to destroy the company.

I wondered the same thing. I figured that because the machine was jammed and they took an early lunch while it was being fixed that they were maybe still waiting for it to be fixed.

I think she knew who he was and threw her boss under the bus in the process. That's probably the hardest day she's worked in her entire life

The hooters girls eating out of that plate without using their hands was really sad. Hopefully the manager will lose his job over that decision. Sad to see what some people must endure at their jobs.

Another reason why I am a bit skeptical of the validity. Who would do something like that with photographic evidence in the same room?

There are plenty of people that are dumb enough to do things like that even with cameras around.

Especially a guy who would manage a Hooters

Surrounded by scantily clad females willing to degrade themselves for money who have unlimited access to alcohol? Not saying I would like the job, but I'd be willing to try.

The show seemed very staged to me also.Especially when the boss wanted to give the female employee more money to help out her situation, not real life

The situations were either:

a) the most interesting of many encounters he had with employees

b) encounters with employees suggested by management because they had a good story or

c) completely fake

Hoping for a or b since it was interesting enough TV.

They were taking their "lunch" because the President screwed up the recycling machine and it jammed, so they couldn't keep it running. 30 minutes expired and the machine wasn't back up so they couldn't go back to work anyway.

A lot of you guys mentioned "The Hooters episode"...

Tonight's program is new, and they are in Hooters. Is this the second time they'll be there?

The show premiered last week after the Super Bowl with the Waste Management episode. This is the second episode. The teasers for this episode have been all over the news and pseudo news the past week.

I've met a few pr!ck Hooters GM's but this guy takes the cake.

It takes a real ####### to act like this knowing you're being taped (even if it's supposed to be for local TV).

If Hooters CEO is going to make changes after watching this show then I may never end up going to the place again. You knew the outfits and name degraded women when you created the idea. and lets be honest, we don't go to Hooters for the wings

That ######## general manager is probably mad that he can't own a strip club in the area. Because he obviously treats his women like they strippers.

I'm pretty sure he said they needed to appeal to a broader audience without changing the uniform.

And the solution to any problem is: throw money around!.................nice plan
How does that ##### manager still have his job? And let's send the manager who's stressed on a vacation. How about doing something about what's causing the stress. Pretty disappointed in the CEO and his lack of action.

In my book, he gets points for having humanity.Who among us hasn't screwed up royally at one time or another? Sometimes people can turn a corner when given a second chance. As far as the manager he sent on vacation... good for him! Since when is doing a NICE thing the WRONG thing?

they've changed it as much as they're going to. miss the days of the bare midriffs. tshirts tied in a tight knot in back.

I don't have a problem with him sending her and her family on vacation. Very nice of him. But from what they showed he did nothing to remedy the situation that is causing the stress. It's a bandaid solution. And to me the bigger thing about the ##### manager wasn't just the degrading way he treated his employees but his lack of understanding what was wrong with it. When confronted about it he stated something about he's very profitable or successful. If the CEO is serious about changing the image of Hooters and it's degrading of women then this guy should not be working there.

 I'm pleased to inform you that this is incorrect. They just switched to cotton shorts which are even tighter than the spandex ones! You can read about it here, and there are pics of them everywhere:

BTW, there are some GREAT blogs out there from Hooters waitresses. Hours upon hours of enjoyment.

Here is one recent entry:

LET'S PLAY DRESS UP

As many of you could have guessed, Monday Night Football is big at Hooters. It's the busiest night of the week and the only thing that brings in more people than that is the UFC fights. I'm not exactly sure what the reasoning behind it is but every Monday night, the girls that are working have to dress up. There's a list of themes in the back that tell you what you will be dressing up as for each game and there's a little booklet with ideas of what to wear for each week.

I've worked almost every Monday Night Football since I started (tonight I have the night off though!!!) and at first, dressing up was fun. Now it's really just turned into an expensive pain in the ###. I spend, on average $50.00 every week on a costume that I will probably never wear again. I do make the money back in tips that night plus a lot more but if I saved that $50.00 every week, it wouldn't take me long to have enough money for new tires on my car. Which I desperately need before the snow comes...

It also is a bit of a scramble to get a costume together since the schedule for the next week usually up until the Thursday before. I don't work Thursdays, and although I could call and ask what days I work, I don't find out my schedule until Friday night, when I'm working and unable to go shopping for a costume. Saturdays I like to sleep in a little bit and then go out with friends and not think about work and then Sunday I work until about 5PM at which point all the stores close for the night. So Monday, in the 3 hours I have between school and work, I have to rush around the city trying to find myself a costume. Not fun and pretty stressful.

Last week, we had to dress as cheerleaders. So on Monday afternoon I went to 4 costume stores, all of which had no cheerleader costumes left. I went to a couple sex stores but decided that I didn't want people to actually see my breasts while I served them their food and putting a shirt underneath that top just wouldn't look right. I went to a fifth costume shop and found a pink cheerleader costume that came with white pompoms. It was $120.00. At that point, I was getting pretty desperate so I tried it on. The thing was too damn big. So I went to the mall and pieced a costume together. I got a white skirt, a red sweater with a big letter H (perfect!) on the front and some pompoms from the dollar store.

I got to work and changed into my costume. The other girls usually dress a little bit more revealing than me but not too much. This week, they outdid themselves, though. There were miniscule skirts with no shorts underneath, bare midriffs and v-necks cut so deep that nip-slips were inevitable.

I still felt good about what I was wearing because I wouldn't constantly be worrying about what was hanging out of where. I walked over to the table where we were doing jump start and GM F told us to give him a second. He came back with a pair of scissors and handed them to Tink.

"Go fix HGWB." Seriously?

My skirt was kind of short and the sweater was a v-neck. It wasn't nearly as extreme as the other girls but it's not like I looked like I was wearing a burka or anything. Me and Tink went to the back and laughed about how ridiculous our job is. We cut an inch or two from my skirt and cut the neck of my sweater to make it a deeper V. GM F was pleased with the results. I was glad I wore spandex shorts under my skirt.

Things like this happen a lot at Hooters. Most weeks, there's a girl who isn't showing enough skin and just a few weeks ago we were told that on the days when our city's hockey team is playing we were no longer allowed to wear jerseys or t-shirts for the team since, according to GM F, "nobody wants to go to Hooters and see a girl in a plain t-shirt serving their food."

I just have to laugh about it.
