What are some rules that your league has in place that aren't common in other leagues? I'm starting a new keeper league for next year and looking for ways to keep it interesting and fun. Lets hear what your league(s) do that may be a different twist from the ordinary. Here is what we have so far..
League Overview
League Management Board
LMB is a 3 member board (one representative from each division), charged with maintaining the integrity of the league and its day to day operations. The LMB has final decision making authority in all league matters. Members hold a 2 year term, elections are held by division 1 week before our league’s draft date. There are no term limits.

Line-Up Requirements
Offense
1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex (RB,WR,TE), 1 TE, 1 K
Defense
2 LB, 2 CB, 1 S, 1 DE/DT
Keepers
Maximum of 5, one must be a defensive player (there is no minimum, you can choose not to keep any players)
Keepers are to be determined / selected the first day of the NFL draft each year prior to the NFL’s first pick.
Developmental Roster Spots
There are 2 developmental spots designated to each league team. These spots are used to “develop” young talent (be creative). Players selected for this can not be used as active during the season. However you retain these players for the upcoming year and they are not counted towards your 5 keeper allotment. You must determine your Development squad by the start of week 4. The spots as well as the players assigned to them can be traded from team to team. There is no limit to how many one team can acquire.
Free Agents / Add - Drops
Free agent will be determined via waiver process each week from Tuesday 8 a.m. through Wednesday midnight. After which it will be open (first come, first serve) from Thursday morning through Sunday 11 a.m.
Cost $3 for each pick up.
Free agents run season long for all teams.
Restricted Free Agency
After each team selects their five keepers the remaining or “cut” players from their squad will be available for the rest of the league to pick up. Restricted free agency will take place on Friday three weeks after the NFL draft. At that time you simply use the web site to select the free agent. The restricted part is as follows.
In order to pick up one of these free agents you must have at least a 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft. If you chose to pick up a player your 2nd round pick would them go to the team of the free agent player you selected.
(Example: Team “A” cuts Hines Ward, you chose to pick him up, your 2nd round pick then goes to Team “A”) If you have more than one 2nd, Team “A” would receive the lesser pick.
If two teams select the same free agent there will be a silent bid for the player. Highest bid gets the player and the money is added to the league pot. There is a $175 cumulative cap on restricted free agent bidding per season. The cap does not pertain to any of the $3 season free agent pick ups.
You can select as many free agents as to the number of 2nd or 1st round draft picks you have acquired for the upcoming draft. You are not required to participate.
Rookie Draft
The Rookie Draft will take place on the first day of NFL Training camp. It will consist of three rounds. No team can select any player that was drafted by the NFL in their 1st round. With your 1st pick you must select a player drafted in the 2nd round by the NFL, with your 2nd pick you must select a player drafted in the 3rd round by the NFL, with your 3rd and final pick you can select any player drafted in the 4th round or later by the NFL.
These newly selected players will be added to your roster of 5 keepers as well as any restricted free agents you acquired and they are tradeable.
Trading
All trading transactions are free.
During the season trades will take place each week from Tuesday 8 a.m. through Sunday 11 a.m.
The trading deadline is the start of week 9, Sunday 11 a.m.; however the trading period will begin again directly after the League Championship game and continue through the off season.
Active Players, Developmental Players, Developmental Spots, Draft picks and future draft picks for the upcoming season only are all eligible to be traded.
All players, picks, etc. must be stated at time of trade
No “players to be named later”
No “future considerations” (absolutely no money involved)
Traditional Draft
Draft dates will be determined each year and should take place sometime between mid August and the first week of the NFL season.
Draft order for the inaugural season will be decided by lottery and proceed in a snake-like fashion. Each subsequent year will be based off team record (worst team finish selecting first and League Champion selecting last). That order will continue for each round there after (no snake).
The draft will take place in two parts, one offensive and one defensive.
Offensive will have sixteen rounds
Defensive will have ten rounds
(We may choose to have off. and def. on separate days)
You must draft appropriate players to meet minimum line-up requirements.
After our initial season we can re-evaluate the number of rounds…
