I'm in wave L. or I, I can't really tell.I'm in Wave J
Since only Motorola makes compatible phones (at this point), I'm thinking I may BUY MOTBecause it sounds like broadband.com, or whatever they're called, has the patent on the wifi call technology and if Sprint doesn't get onboard somebody else will. I wish this was a publicly traded company.I'm shocked this is going to fly. Since carriers insist that you need to have a hard tower connection for a call, and not just a data pipe for all comms why would sprint open this pandoras box here? You can do basically the same thing with ipod touches but only on wifi.
OK let me see if I got this, you'll either have to pay for a portable wi-fi device or get service only in areas where there is wi-fi? Unless I'm mistaken in that, is't that going to make it just as expensive as other services. or you wont have service when your out of the office or at your home Or say you stop at a restaurant or another hot spot. Isn't that kinda the point of a cell phone? Now I'm not one of those really tech guys that know all about this stuff so I'm probably talking out of my ###. But it seems like there could be some hidden fees here.Beta Waves FAQ
Do I have to have Wi-Fi to use this phone?
Yes. Hybrid Calling relies on you being connected to Wi-Fi. We require that you sign into at least one Wi-Fi network when you first turn on your phone.
This is still in beta. Right now, you use Wi-fi when you are in range of a Wi-fi network you have access to. When you are not, you use Sprint, if Sprint is available. As of now, i do not believe they have put bandwidth limits in place, but you can be sure they will one day. I am thinking they are banking on growth of public Wi-fi networks. Bright House here in Orlando has them all over the place. If you are a member, you can access Wi-fi at a pretty wide area. so Republic is perfect for me, unfortunately, I am in Wave N.OK let me see if I got this, you'll either have to pay for a portable wi-fi device or get service only in areas where there is wi-fi? 100 minutes is not very much.I have the unlocked Google Galaxy Nexus and $30 T-Mobile 100min/unlimited text/5 gb 4G/unlimited 2G plan. You get a real phone with current OS.
How are the phones working out? I just got my notice today. Wave i.I finally got my notice yesterday and bought two phones (500 dollars total) and this afternoon they arrived. I am charging them up now./psychedBest of all, my current phone contract ends Tue.The phone is a Motorola Defy XT.I was in Beta Group (wave?) B
As a second phone they may be okay, but the support (or complete absence) unreliable phones and dicey service make it way to unreliable for anything you can count on.For example, my service was so poor I HAD to get another provider for my business use. The catch? Once I port the number I lose my account and have to wait for another wave? They cannot issue me a number? wtf?I dropped my phone 2 feet onto carpet anf the screen cracked. Too bad enter another wave and order a phone Ridiculous. No contingency plans or backup when problems arise. basically if you have a problem, end the service and get back in line and wait another six month for that wave and hope the crap they send you this time is better than the last.Again, I do recommend it as a second phone, but take note of what it is and that is nothing you can rely on.On the other hand $19/mo for unltd voice text and internet is an unbelievable - just know what you are in for when you sign up. Do NOT port an important number. I ported my main business line that is in all my advertising, marketing, business cards, etc. and after a week, it still has not ported to the new provider. So I am using a scotch-taped up phone that people have trouble understanding me on, waiting for the number to port to a phone and provider I can rely upon.By the way- I am trying to port back to Straight Talk. $45/mo. ultd text and internet over the Verizon network (varies by ohone model), but they actually have customer service and technical support and no contract. How are the phones working out? Based on my usage (450 talk, 750 text, 2.5 MB Data) I'm doing just fine with my $50/mo unlimited everything plan with Cspire.'Brady Marino said:Joe Rogan has been hyping this cell company called Ting on his podcast. They kind of have an interesting thing going. They bill based on actual usage, not a monthly fee or any contracts. They borrow from the Sprint network.
Oh, and you can buy a Galaxy SIII to use with it. You can't port existing devices to the service yet, but that could happen in the future.
Thanks for the update. Looking less incredible than it first seemed.'cosjobs said:As a second phone they may be okay, but the support (or complete absence) unreliable phones and dicey service make it way to unreliable for anything you can count on.For example, my service was so poor I HAD to get another provider for my business use. Was with Republic for a few months this year. Was generally happy, though WiFi calling was a bit wonky. They are getting the latest Moto X next month. If Sprint works good in your area, it is worth it, IMO.So it's been over two years since the last post here. Has Republican Wireless gotten any better? Anybody out there happy with their phone?
I picked up a Moto G for my son and it has been great for his needs. Phone has good voice quality, unlimited texting, and restricts his data surfing until he is on WiFi. The plan we are on is $10, or $13 after taxes.mon said:So it's been over two years since the last post here. Has Republican Wireless gotten any better? Anybody out there happy with their phone?
what kind of data speeds do you get with consumer cellular?Brady Marino said:Was with Republic for a few months this year. I switched because I love the OnePlus One and Consumer Cellular has the best customer service known to man.
