Don't know if it was intended this way, but it's kind of a slap to the Eagles. They were supposed to treat this as their dress rehearsal game since they play the Browns next week and in Week 1.

And I'm sure ESPN is thrilled.

I'm going to guess belichick doesn't care much about their thrill level.edit: hahahaha....

It's too bad CBS isn't broadcasting this game. Tom Brady would be playing

I'm sure most of the previous posters are aware, but incase others reading are not: many Patriots starters are sitting out this game due to the fact they're playing 3 preseason games within a 10 day timespan.

The count is 28 total players
Mike Reiss ‏@MikeReissOn 98.5 The Sports Hub pre-game show, play-by-play man Gil Santos says Patriots are not dressing 28 players tonight.

A little off topic but what's up with Andre Carter? He's 33 but I still think he has some solid years left. He was a beast last season. I know he was dinged up but I can't believe he's still a FA.

he's been rehabbing at the facility with pats staff, and the common belief around the league, and with pats fans, is that he'll be reunited with the team at some point.I'd guess maybe they sign him right after the season starts to duck the guarantees, but maybe earlier -- we'll see who's floating around after cutdowns.

Thanks! And I thought the ad campaign was amusing during the Hall of Fame game. After a few weeks I want to shave his beard and choke him with it.

how does this happen?
just the usual goodell conspiracy to undermine the franchisepsBill Belichick, on 98.5 The Sports Hub pre-game show, says one benefit of practicing in Tampa is weather-related. Good prep for early games.

At least Vereen and Ridley are both playing. From a fantasy standpoint, those are the only Patriots that I was interested in seeing anyway.

He is... Mallet was primarily practicing with the first team this week ahead of Hoyer, probably to get him looks against a first string defense.

Muffed punt and recomvery by Edelman... He has had trouble during camp fielding punts too.... It's rather odd, as he did not seem to have this problem last year.

I wouldn't make much of it. While Vereen has had the upper hand as of late, I think his start is more along the lines of Mallet, in that they are looking to get him looks against 1st stringers.

Offensive starters for the Patriots tonight:

QB -- Ryan Mallett

RB -- Shane Vereen

FB -- Eric Kettani

TE -- Alex Silvestro

WR -- Deion Branch

WR -- Julian Edelman

LT -- Nate Solder

LG -- Nick McDonald

C -- Ryan Wendell

RG -- Dan Connolly

RT -- Marcus Cannon

Defensive starters for the Patriots:

LDE -- Jermaine Cunningham

LDT -- Ron Brace

RDT -- Kyle Love

RDE -- Chandler Jones

SLB -- Dont'a Hightower

MLB -- Brandon Spikes

WLB -- Bobby Carpenter

LCB -- Sterling Moore

RCB -- Ras-I Dowling

S -- Patrick Chung

S -- Steve Gregory

Vick doesnt know when to just get rid of the ball - makes no sense for a guy with his athleticism to get hit all the time.
