Unpopular Movie Opinions (1 Viewer)

No, I turned it off when people kept wailing on each other for no apparent reason. And I missed the stupid ending where Fight Club started because Edward Norton was beating himself up in the parking lot while people watched.
That was truly awful and made me mad because it was on its way to being a pretty good movie in the early going.
Really? In our voyeuristic/copy cat society where even the dumbest fad catches on, I hardly think it's implausible.

Sure it would get an initial WTF, but it could catch on. All he's doing is taking a selfie...violently.

Just watched Ferris Bueller for the fist time on Netflix. Rated it a 2/5 and thought I was being generous.

I like Tarantino in general but feel like I have his movies all out of order from everyone else. Reservoir Dogs/Django > Basterds > Kill Bill > Pulp Fiction

I actually didn't like Pulp Fiction at all.

I think the sign of a good movie is how it holds up over time. I was surprised to find that after re-watching Caddyshack a few years back, that it really was a mediocre movie. I mean, it just came off as being very dated and the funny parts didn't really hold up.

That's always been Fast Times to me. If you weren't in that generation, the movie is garbage aside from 10 glorious seconds at the pool.

Nice try Andy, but no.

:goodposting:

Sean Penn and Forest Whitaker's worst roles of their careers. Only good character in the whole movie was Judge Reinhold's. Even the Moving in Stereo scene was just a dream...and it was Judge Reinhold's.

I just saw 8 Mile for the first time a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be a slam dunk to be good based on rotten tomatoes rating. I was wrong.

It was decent.

The lead actor is a rapper playing himself. Shouldn't have expected much.

Audience rating was 54%. And yea, it's Eminem as the lead. Shouldn't have expected much.

Anything Tarantino
Agree 100%...this guy essentially developed a unique "style" of crappy movie, patented it, and convinced others that it was fantastic cinema.

And for the previous responses here, pass me "I Know What You Did Last Summer," and I'll watch it before I'll watch Pulp Fiction again. At least I can stare at JLH in her prime.
Tarantino has a talent for dialogue for sure. As the years go by I grow less and less enamored of his movies as a whole though. Dude is passionate about his craft, but I think his love for mimicing the b-movies of yore has worn thin for me. He always seems to just step over the line too much with the over the top scenes. There are at least 3 scenes in Inglorious Basterds that I thought were some of the best I watched on film in years: opening scene, basement bar, and restaurant. Then he goes overboard with stuff at the end and the shootout in the theater. He is best when it is 2-3 people talking, but he can't help but get all Grindhouse on our asses at some point in his recent movies. Ask me 10 years ago, and Pulp Fiction would have been in my top 5. Now I would prefer other movies of his - Jackie Brown, IB, and probably Reservoir Dogs I would put in over PF. Honestly end up FF through the scene at his characters house and anything with that annoying blueberry pancakes #####.
Cursing every third or fourth word is talented dialogue?

Blazing Saddles is woefully unfunny in 2015 and I question the intelligence of anyone who chuckles more than twice at it.
There were those who didn't find it funny when it was released either, usually not grasping that the film was a satire on racism (co-written by Richard Pryor) and a spoof of Hollywood westerns. It has got a bunch of stupid stuff in it, but some great performances, particularly the underrated Clevon Little as Black Bart and Madeline Kahn doing a great parody of Marlene Dietrich in Destry Rides Again.

And it is true that much of humor of the film was a product of its time, and as pointed out in the article in the below link, the film could not be made today (but not because of the political correctness, mostly due to the mindset/expectations of movie goers at the time):

I completely agree that Ferris was overrated and a pale imitation of Hughes' better films.

Still in my top 5.

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
That is a great line. Unfortunately the rest of the movie isn't so great.

You can still do comedy about race, but it is far more nuanced now. Blazing Saddles was ground breaking for its time, now, it falls really flat.

I agree there were great performances in the film. The humor is just dated. And I'm not sure the beans/campfire scene was ever funny. Just least common denominator humor

Ed Rooney alone makes this patently untrue.

Opinions aren't all created equal.

This opinion is garbage. :hot:

Never funny.

But the French Mistake? Oh Dear God, Dom DeLuise and the hiss? Possibly bigoted -- that's true -- yet still quite funny.

eta* My unpopular opinion is that Blazing Saddles actually gets funnier as I age. I think it's awesome to watch it play up against modern sensibilities.

I'll add an unpopular opinion that skews the opposite way;

No way is this movie in my Top 100 but any time Death to Smoochy is on, I do my best to watch at least some of it. No other movie like it, from

nazis who love children's shows
to

evil charities
to about 200 other ridiculous things. Plus it has Edward Norton, Catherine Keener AND JOHN STEWART!
