So was it that guy from one of the videos Charlie debated with?
There was very clearly several sides to Kirk. We'd all be wise to look at him in his entirety. It does no good to cherry pick the things we love/hate and focus just on those. People are complicated. If we want to show we have a modicum of integrity, we need to admit he's somewhere on the the scale between "saint" and "devil". These are constructs the "sides" have created. It's not either/or. It's almost always, both/and.It’s going to be interesting….I keep hearing that, and then another one happens. Without looking it up, most of us don't even know the names of the Minnesota actual politicians that were assassinated.Yea, they are gonna fry this dude. This is 100% happening without a doubtIf the feds pick up the case the death penalty is a possibility. The Utah governor went out of his way the other day to point out that the state does still have the death penalty.I hope its true they got the guy and I hope he gets the death penalty.
This assassination is going to have massive ripple effects in our country. Very interested to find out this kids motive.
I hope it ripples in the correct direction b/c as a country and people we have a choice. We lead the world in a lot of bad stuff like this, no reason we have to.
Charlie Kirk was one of the good ones. And he was loved, and cherished by A LOT of people. I would encourage those who just think he was a self promoting right wing activist to dig a little deeper.
This is why I’m so interested to find out the shooters motive. My two theories:
1) he wanted to “stir the pot”….which this will do, and then some.
2) he wanted to take out someone who is reaching the hearts, and minds of young people in a way that, in his mind had to be stopped.
Yes….in an already tumultuous society, this is not what we needed. I’m not sure people who didn’t really know much about Charlie understand how important he was to a lot of Americans.Patrick Bet David made an interesting point that outside enemy actors could feed off this event and escalate internal conflict in this country massively right now.Political violence tends to beget political violence but I'm hoping that the only thing that happens is that we're sickened by it and that we de-escalate with each other. We don't have to adopt this. We can say enough is enough right now.
I hate this. I don't want to live in agitation or with any of this at all. I don't care which side or who. Let's just end it.

Right. And we do society a severe injustice if we ignore the imperfections. This is what intellectually dishonest people do. I apologize for maybe getting to close to the political line here. I’m still pretty raw over this one. I personally feel like we lost a great American, and it’s going to bring more heartache, if anything. I get that others don’t feel the same. Re: School shootings, the stuff he said days after that I have read recently, as a parent/father, I find those words very startling.
I bet a ton of people are googling Tyler Robinson right now to see what he was all about.
This is the issue - why do we need to make this kid a celebrity and dive into motives, etc.
Lock him up and let him live in obscurity. Don't give these loons what they want - the ability to get their message out.
Would love for all media to not refer to him by name and instead give a nice code name like captian skidmark. Have all websties automatically replace his real name with the code name. MIght not do much good in preventing these things, but I would prefer seeing that.

Don't believe so. the 4chan sleuths, yet again, threw someone under the bus and I'm guessing made for that person to have a very bad day yesterday. So was it that guy from one of the videos Charlie debated with?

I saw the WSJ reported that then took it back.the governor said he had stuff written on his casings which is like what mangione did i hope we dont see a further proliferation of this type of stuff take that to the bank brohans
There’s no agenda stop saying garbage like that. The FBI is a non political position and the guy running it is an idiot. Bottom line. You’re the only one making it political.Let’s keep agenda out of this and keep it to updates.I mean we have former podcasters with no experience running the fbi right now so I guess this isn’t surprising. It sucks and it worries me about how things could get worse but it’s just the way it goes.
You’d think a college campus would just be littered with cameras so I still think they have to catch this guy.
Appears they have a possible suspect in custody per Fox.
It’s true that people are rarely all one thing or another. The way we talk about public figures often flattens them into symbols for a “side,” when in reality they’re a mix of admirable traits and flaws, just like the rest of us. What complicates it with someone like Charlie Kirk is that his public voice was amplified to such a degree that the parts people disagreed with felt louder, sharper, and harder to ignore. Maybe part of the lesson here is that the way we elevate voices in politics has as much impact as the voices themselves. There was very clearly several sides to Kirk. We'd all be wise to look at him in his entirety. It does no good to cherry pick the things we love/hate and focus just on those. People are complicated. Edit - this was the stamp on the bullet I'm referencing not the casings.I saw the WSJ reported that then took it back.the governor said he had stuff written on his casings which is like what mangione did i hope we dont see a further proliferation of this type of stuff take that to the bank brohans
Is this where we put our HOT TAKES?The FBI is a non political position and the guy running it is an idiot
Probably right. I'm glad they got the guy.I saw it was TRN which is a manufacturer but some lunatics were trying to spin it as trans.I saw the WSJ reported that then took it back.the governor said he had stuff written on his casings which is like what mangione did i hope we dont see a further proliferation of this type of stuff take that to the bank brohans

Why do we need to dissect Kirk now?
As most of us know, social media platforms use algorithms to load up our feed with information that will essentially reinforce our leanings. This is gonna get weird.I saw the WSJ reported that then took it back.the governor said he had stuff written on his casings which is like what mangione did i hope we dont see a further proliferation of this type of stuff take that to the bank brohans
FBI has announced what was written and I have no idea what some of them mean although one specifically said something like "Hey Fascist, catch." According to the internet, one was clearly a twisted joke, another had a video game reference and no idea on the one he actually fired is supposed to mean but tons of speculation online.
I don’t think it’s a hot take when former intelligence leaders (who were put in office from presidents of both sides) are saying the same thing but I guess? Is this where we put our HOT TAKES?The FBI is a non political position and the guy running it is an idiot
Read the room, man. This isn't the Kash Patel thread. I saw that too, but also that the manufacturer, Turan doesn't make 30-06 amo.I saw it was TRN which is a manufacturer but some lunatics were trying to spin it as trans.I saw the WSJ reported that then took it back.the governor said he had stuff written on his casings which is like what mangione did i hope we dont see a further proliferation of this type of stuff take that to the bank brohans

I'm just hoping that the next big social media platform is accurately named "Echo Chamber".As most of us know, social media platforms use algorithms to load up our feed with information that will essentially reinforce our leanings. Per an AI searchA second unfired casing read: “Oh Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao.”
So the first was apparently originally a furry meme. The Up arrow stuff is how you call the "big bomb" in a game called Helldivers 2. I assume Bella Ciao is an Italian Brainrot reference.Inscriptions on a fired casing read: “notices bulges” capital “O-W-O what’s this?”
Inscriptions on the three unfired casings read: “hey fascist!” “catch!” Up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols.
A second unfired casing read: “Oh Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao.”
And a third unfired case read: “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”
When I made my comment it was become Kash made his blunder in saying they had a suspect in custody and the guy was still on the loose. The only firm conclusion you can come to is that this kid was terminally online. Trying to parse the politics of literal internet brainrot, even when it initially spawns and spreads on like 8Chan, is hard.

I guess it says something that this is what is going to have to constitute a manifesto in 2025.
yes it happened this morning about 9 am central take that to the bank brochachoWas there a news conference?
My news feed keeps hitting with dribs and drabs
i agree a standard 3006 springfield shell has go to be less than 4 inches long and it has to be less than a half inch diameter take that to the bank brohanI've never inscribed a shell casing, but that feels like a lot of wordsSo the first was apparently originally a furry meme. one hondo percent brohans and its controlled by foreign forces who want to destabilize the greatest nation on earth take that to the bank brochachosI like that he’s calling social media a “cancer.”
It makes sense when you see who the main choices were in the elections since he became old enough to vote.CNN reported that the shooter is registered to vote but has no political affiliation and hasn’t voted in the two most recent elections (they didn’t specify which recent ones).
Interesting that he would get this amped up to kill a political activist but not amped up enough to vote.
sounds like my thoughts, sans the kids. i have no one to root for, just the nation. i wonder if there are more of me, enough to start a meaningful movement. i don’t think i will live long enough to see it though.Yep. I don't have a team not sure how you can. Each side policies keep changing and creeping towards the edges and I find it hard to believe you can support everything one side does.less tolerant is an under statement. having a 2 party system worsens the situation and our sheep mentality puts the nail in the coffin. one day after remembering 9/11 and for a moment how the country finally looked at itself as 1 nation instead of the divided states of america makes me wonder if we can ever ramp down the rhetoric in the technology age. so many people, hidden behind keyboards become warriors, spreading filth and hate. you can’t even steal a baseball from a kid at a game anymore, lol. the US needs a relevant 3rd party (more would be great) where people can’t be easily labeled. i can’t explain to anyone in the states anymore that i don’t like the president, but i don’t mind some policies and i more concerned with the economics of everything. it’s almost as if you are forced to pick a side and be labeled a conservative or a liberal. i thought biden was way too old and he looked slower than rodgers in the pocket. we or i need something that meets somewhere in the middle. centric. perot was the closet thing we might have and he couldn’t generate any senate nor congressional seats. people have become more emboldened to do horrible things. ultimately, they want us divided and we are too blind to see it.I don't know if Kirk has ever addressed why he wears one, but I think the reason is fairly obvious. There are crazy people in this world and he engages in a style of debate that can be emotional and triggering to some. Steven Crowder does a man on campus thing as well and said he has been assaulted on campus before and feared for his own safety. We've become less tolerant as a society over other points of view and that's an all-sides issue. There is a slow motion video that appears to show the bullet hitting Kirk in his bullet-proof vest and ricocheting into his neck. An upper torso shot at 200 is significantly easier than the head/neck. Shooter in theory could be an amateur.
Why is he wearing a bullet-proof vest, Max? Do you know? Is this a standard thing for people like Charlie Kirk now?
I honestly don't know and am trying to figure out if this is standard or if this is unique to Charlie, and if so, is it personal proclivity and his own risk tolerance or is it because of credible threats?
This strikes me as pretty important. Not to find the killer. I'm never going to be able to help with that. But to assess where we really are as a culture and as a polis.
Kirk had to hire private security for these events and I assume they highly encourage the BP vest. I think that's what makes it hard for someone in Kirk's position. He isn't a government official. If he receives a threat, who is looking into how credible that is? The police aren't going to spend much time on that. If someone threatens a government official, its more often not thoroughly investigated.
I listen to more conservative brands of podcasts and they've echo the fears. Some have been SWAT'd and received death threats. I don't want to derail the thread but I think this is an important conversation we should be having as a community.
end rant
We as a nation need to stop the rhetoric, stop giving prominent voices to fringes of society. It's terrible the way we label each other, it's terrible people are be murdered just because of their political affiliation. It's insanity, we are hating other Americans citizens because they are team red or blue
It's madness..... It is out of control and social media. Msm, leaders are all to blame.
This will be deleted and it's fine, shouldn't have posted it.
No one in, well almost no one in the top executive branches of government really care about you as people. It's all a game of money and power. They could solve most of the "issues" if they wanted too
But no they use them as red meat to point fingers to gain control.
I believe most Americans would be in board with all types of bipartisan compromises on guns, healthcare, abortion, taxes etc
I'm sad at the instant "blame" and finger pointing when it's convenient for your narrative, I'm sad that everyone wants to put everyone in a labeled box. I'm sad people rush to judgment without facts.
What happened in Minnesota and what happened here should be condemned by all Americans. But depending on your team, you downplay and joke about one but are horrified by the other.
Makes no sense to me and never will. I had no idea who Kirk was but as an American I'm saddened and can't believe how scared for my kids I am.
old guy rant:
I'll admit I haven't real this entire thread, but I don't know what mistake this is referring to, I haven't heard anything about this?He made maybe the very most crucial mistake you could make in his position.I don't think who the director of the FBI is has anything to do with it.I mean we have former podcasters with no experience running the fbi right now so I guess this isn’t surprising. It sucks and it worries me about how things could get worse but it’s just the way it goes.

What did they do? Didn't the father turn his son in?Excellent job by the FBI and law enforcement to get this nut job. Political violence has no place on our society and folks who celebrated the assassination are just as evil as the shooter.
No, they are NOT just as evil as the shooter..........but they ARE pretty classless lowlifes.Excellent job by the FBI and law enforcement to get this nut job. Political violence has no place on our society and folks who celebrated the assassination are just as evil as the shooter.
I could be wrong, but this talk I believe is trying to understand the motive of the assassin.I really don't understand any of this talk track in the context of a murder.Right. So while I agree with your statement that people need to look closer at Kirk, that includes those trying to paint him in the best light possible as well as those trying to paint him in the worst light possible. There are zero perfect humans.
By every measure possible Charlie Kirk was an exemplary citizen. What crimes did he commit? Did he abandon his children? Did he not pay his taxes? Was he trying to undermine the united states? Did he not approach his political agenda the right way...by talking to people?
This idea of "well we need to understand he wasn't perfect" in the context of getting murdered is a terrible statement of relativity. He said mean words, or had ideas I don't agree with does not make someone "in between" or "it's complex".
He was a model citizen. There's no "understanding" to this, its black and white.
Excellent job by the FBI and law enforcement to get this nut job. Political violence has no place on our society and folks who celebrated the assassination are just as evil as the shooter.
Tl;Dr he tweeted or press released the killer was captured and in custody. Only to then go oopsie that wasn't the guy.I'll admit I haven't real this entire thread, but I don't know what mistake this is referring to, I haven't heard anything about this?He made maybe the very most crucial mistake you could make in his position.I don't think who the director of the FBI is has anything to do with it.I mean we have former podcasters with no experience running the fbi right now so I guess this isn’t surprising. It sucks and it worries me about how things could get worse but it’s just the way it goes.
You’d think a college campus would just be littered with cameras so I still think they have to catch this tug.
