Upsetting Situation and Difficult Decisions (1 Viewer)

Can someone explain to me how financial aid works, especially for preschool or kindergarten? Hypothetically, we wanted to send our kid to a school where the tuition was $3 and we only budgeted $2 and received financial aid for that last $1, do we have to pay that back?

Depends on how it's structured, but I can almost assure you that you don't qualify for financial aid.  For K, there's this complicated process where you go through this centralized program and then the individual schools can decide how much and what type they'd give you from there.  Pre-K is just whatever they decide.

I don't understand how a school like Montessori even has financial aid - if their tuition is $35k a year, most families who even have this as a consideration are prob 7 figure earners, who gets any aid for these schools?

Like I said above, once all the legacy spots are filled, there's very few spots at most of these schools anyway.  From sort of going through the process, most of it's just lip-service in case a truly exceptional kid comes along that they want.  Basically its for kids that could have gotten into Hunter/citywide G&T, but want a private setting.  From my kids 2 preschool classes, I'd say there may be one kid that may qualify and I say may since I've never met her parents.

I did it!! I think... After leveraging every possible connection and contact I have, I think my son should be receiving his offer letter tomorrow. I have a solid source who just told me FC Jr. is number two on the current wait list and two parents have declined their seats. Official list goes out tomorrow morning.

This will hopefully be the end of a massive headache, we almost put a non-refundable deposit down Thursday - tomorrow will either be a great day or a massive letdown.

Wife just got the call, we're in!!! :excited:

Woman asks my wife who we were in touch with at the DOE :lmao:

My wife told the woman she had no idea, "my husband handled that". She left me a message to ask, says she needs help getting a few other kids in and shuffling the list a little

I got my letter, basically impossible to rescind, I think I'll give her the contact, IDK.
