US Men's National Team (15 Viewers)

And so comes to end one of the most unique careers for a US player.

========

@Sciaretta

Happy trails to Terrence Boyd @TBoyd91 who will retire after the season with SV Waldhof Mannheim
- One of the nicest and likeable American players of his generation. He LOVED the #USMNT
- Hope he stays involved with the sport, maybe back here?
I had higher hopes for him than his ultimate US career. but great that he's made such a long go of it, and greater to hear that he's a good dude.

He made the initial 30 man roster in 2014 but did not make the 23 man final roster for the WC. I believe later that year is when he had his major knee injury which changed his entire career trajectory.

Then just before the WC the US will play a TBA opponent (waiting on the draw I assume) in Charlotte followed by playing Germany in Chicago.
Is the Charlotte game likely against another WC team? I am on vacation so haven't read much about this beyond picking up a couple of tickets in a presale :lol:
I would bet a lot of money that it will be one of the other WC teams. All 48 teams will be looking for games to warm up with.

I think they are waiting to announce the team because they don’t want to book a team they get in the draw and may want to book a team with a similar play style to one of the teams in their group.

I believe the following statements are correct for the modern games (1990 and beyond):

The US has never won 2 games in the group stage
The US has never won 2 knock out round games

Would love to see both of these this summer. Obviously it would be easier to win 2 knock out round games this summer, on paper, but beggars can't be choosers.

Poch yet again firing a massive warning shot to the media and fan base that the roster is not going to go like many want it to

We’re not talking about something insane like leaving Pulisic or McKennie out right?
He is not ****ing around. He keeps saying this same thing over and over and over again.

There is going to be at least one shocker, maybe even two. I have no idea who is getting whacked but unless Poch is doing all this as a sham to frighten the top players, it feels like some one is going to miss out that is extremely unexpected.

I don't know. I think this is mostly a "no more ********" message. Next camp matters. Be available if at all possible. Come in ready to work and not worry about the run-in with your club team (which might be a serious concern for CP because Milan is looking like a real contender for the Scudetto this year).

Do i think McKennie might be on the outside looking in? Sure. I don't think he's one of the four best wingbacks. I don't think he's played in a double-pivot in a long time. Which means we're talking about him being in competition for those roles behind the striker. If we think CP and TIllman are locks there, those other spots are hugely competitive. Gio. Zendejas, Luna or Brendan (whichever pest Poch prefers). I think Weston is better than Luna and Brendan, but I'm not sure he's as "right" as they are if Poch wants that type of high-workrate option in that spot.

But this could also be directed at someone inclined to ask about Musah or Johnny. I think a lot of us have already come to terms with those guys being behind Tessman and even Morris or Sebb. But some media members would almost certainly ask about it.

Assuming decent health, I think the March roster is going to answer almost any questions we have.

I think the June roster will.
